Ben Hunt vs Ash Taylor

based on no facts whatsoever and just IMHO, im figuring Taylor will develop into a better half and could have been a better foil for Milf, but Hunt has the opportunity and ingredients to be a better player and leader of the current 'premiership window' bronx outfit

strictly anecdotal and based on a vibe lol

Him purely? I was pretty sure that the Broncos U20s had a pretty good team last year. He may have been impressive, but I'm not sure if he can take the credit for all of it. Whereas he was most surely the reason he fell off tackles like a limp cheeseburger patty, can't share those efforts with the team, sorry.



I might do. But mostly because it insults my intelligence and that of our fellow posters. It annoys me like 1910 spruiking the Jets, in that you're far more invested than just a wide-eyed, excited fan. There's an element of this that you hold personally, so it's never going to be an argument held on impartial terms, is it.

I have never denied my bias. In fact, it is the first thing I said in this thread.
Having said that, I only ever song the praises of 2 players here: Taylor and Kahu, not Berrell, whom I would like to do well, but isn't in the ballpark of the former 2. He is serviceable, but that's it.
Sure, I have an affinity with those kids after having seen them grow and having been a part of their development, how ever small it was. I also knew most would never be more than park footy players.

However, I stuck my neck out for those two because of what I saw in them over many games, not just because they played with my kid. In fact Kahu never played with or against him!
Is it so hard to accept that besides the natural bias, I could actually be objective about these kids potential?
I mean, so far, Kahu has vindicated me (and others of course), and Taylor seems to be well on his way...
Could your preconceived ideas be getting in the way, or would that also insult your intelligence?

P.S. So Taylor single handedly lost games for the U20's, but the wins were because of the team... gotcha!

That may actually be the case. But the fact that we've jumped from agenda to agenda to this point right now puts some doubt in my mind, as I mentioned earlier. In that way, yes, you could say my preconceived ideas about you may be getting in the way. Maybe we just need to punch on at halftime on Saturday to settle it.

I don't understand why there is so much vitriol in this thread. It seems harmless enough to me to speculate about who will end up the better player and since nobody actually knows the future then really all opinions are valid. Long term I think if Taylor gets physically stronger so he can improve his defence and consistency then he will probably end up a better player than Hunt but that doesn't mean I think we should have kept Taylor and dumped Hunt. The Broncos are ready to win a premiership now. Ben Hunt is ready to win a premiership now. Taylor is not ready now. You can't ask the whole club to wait a few years while the half back gets experience. Maybe one day Taylor will come back and win one with us. Maybe one of the reasons good players want to play for Wayne is because he proved that he has the players best interests at heart by moving Taylor on.

The worrying thing for me is that at 26 years old, he hasnt got there yet and doesn't look like he ever will. I'm not sure he has Cronks meticulous attention to detail and work ethic to improve.

Taylor i think in 3-4 years time will have everything Hunt has plus he has a better kicking game. Hunt though has proved himself to be a very good half back, Taylor is very much a work in progress, but he does have a lot of potential. I think he will realise it myself, but we will have to wait and see.

I know its probably not a very popular opinion, but i do think Hunt with his running game would be a better hooker than Macca personally. I think in an attacking sense, he would be sharper and a bigger weapon for us than Macca.

So Ben Hunt has the equal second highest try assist in the comp so far this year. I think his kicking has improved a little. It's just his running and touches per game that has gone down.

His kicking hasn't improved on last year imo, he had a decent improvement last week, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. Most of his try assists this season have come from his good passing game, once he starts getting his confidence back and running the ball more, and hopefully improving his kicking game, then we'll start seeing a LOT more tries and try assists.
 
What's left to be said?

I doubt one flogging against a team playing for 2017 2018 2019 (?) is going to change anybody's opinion.

Am I right?

“I haven’t been more in awe of a young player making his mark on the game than this young player,” Marshall said.

“He doesn’t get too far ahead of himself, he’s not a dirty player.
"But his ability to stamp his authority on a game in terms of game management, taking the pressure, and for the past four or five weeks when he’s been playing well he’s been on top of his game. I just love watching him as a player.”


Cronulla hooker Michael Ennis told the panel Taylor was the talk of the town following the Sharks’ win over the Titans in round six.


“We played the Titans at home six or seven weeks ago, and not too often do you come off the field and hear different conversations about an individual unless he’s had an absolute steamer,” Ennis said.
“We won that game, but there was a lot of groups of conversations on that day and in recovery sessions going he will be a good player that Taylor.”

Meh. His head's going to start growing, and they'll be talking about how flat he is next year.

I mean, who was the talk about last year again? Another QLD halfback... what's his name again.... oh yeah, Ben Hunt.
 
From what I've seen of Taylor, he has talent and is a great player... But my gut tells me we made the right choice by sticking with Hunt. He's down on form/confidence as is half the bloody squad. He'll come good.
 
Taylor is having a great debut season, no doubt.

A lot of talk around about how they got lucky and ended up with him rather than DCE this year.

It's interesting to note that DCE enjoyed quite a debut season as well, but look at him of late...

Taylor may well go on to great things but he's got a long way to go. People saying we backed the wrong horse after half a season need to get a grip.
