BHQ Countdown: Most Loved/Least Liked Players Reveal thread

Lockyer - What needs to be said? The guy was a legend, should be an immortal yesterday and he will be eventually. He changed the way fullback was played and then went to five-eighth and became a legend there too. Won premierships regularly and if not for Beale's knee, quite likely would have gone out with one to finish his career too. The Qld spine of Slater-Lockyer-Thurston-Smith was the stuff dreams were made of. He succeeded in everything he did and even when he didn't like his international debut, he went away and worked on everything and came back even better. Captained Australia, Queensland and Brisbane as many times as everyone and if a bloke named Cameron Smith didn't exist, he would be considered the best player of all time or at least in the final discussion. Greatest player we have produced and we've produced some amazing ones.

Mundine - Look I'm going to be honest here, I am actually disappointed he is at 1. While playing for us, he was fine. Yes he has gone on to prove himself to be an absolute moron in his post-career but in my opinion, he doesn't even make top 5 and maybe not even top 10 in my view. Our number one most hated should be Bird and number 2, Kennedy. Kennedy was a waste of space on the field and as history has gone on to see, a waste of space off it too. Mundine, for all his many and many flaws, never disgraced the Broncs jersey to my knowledge. Anywho, just my view and clearly in opposition to the majority.
Why should it be bird ffs? It’s not his fault he was injured. I feel zero hate for bird.

Locky is the obvious choice and will likely be the goat bronco forever. Worlds best player in full back and again in 5/8… the man single handedly got me into League. The QLD origin domination is effectively the children of Lockyer, and if he doesn’t go on to score that try in game 3 2006 who knows what might have happened… he is practically a living god.

It’s weird how ‘forgotten’ he is in the actual goat debate. Obviously I have my bronco glasses on, but to me, he was a fair margain better than Joey Johns, and only Cam Smith holds his ground against him.

I mean you may be right about Mundine being okay in his playing day, but i personally am ashamed and embarrassed that he got the opportunity to even grace the mighty Broncos jersey

One of my first memories of Rugby League was hearing a guy get called "drop the ball Lockyer" which was obviously his test debut, this player went on to be one of the greatest players I've seen play and was the Broncos throughout my childhood.
I'm glad he's contacted Denan Kemp and will be jumping on a podcast with him pretty soon to talk about his career.

As for Mundine he wouldn't even be in my top 10 most hated, I don't know what he was like as a Bronco.

Locky the clear winner. The greatest Bronco there is. He won by a million points. The GOAT IMO.

I had Mundine at 18th in most hated. He's a dick, but there are plenty more players that have screwed the Broncos more than him.

The three captains that didn't make the top 50 were: Darius Boyd (he definitely would have made it had he retired in 2018 or something), Gene Miles (legend but older player so understandable) and....

ADAM REYNOLDS! Can't believe I was the only one that voted for him.

If Adam wins us a premiership he will find himself in my top 10 easily.

Mundine was barely here and won a premiership, even when he left he didn’t leave a hole in our roster and we continued winning. Such a deflating number 1 most hated. Is he a knob? Yes, is he as despicable as those who milked money and cut and run the minute there was greener pastures? No.

Locky is one of the greatest ever, and easily the best the Broncos have ever produced. He had an ability to read the flow of a game like none I have ever seen before or since. He was always 3 steps ahead of everyone else on the field, including Andrew Johns. Sublime in the clutch and genius with the ball in hand.

355 first grade games, all for one club

4 Premierships, including one as captain

Dally M 5/8 of the year in 2006 and 2007

Clive Churchill medalist in 2000

MOTM 3 times in Origin, including 6 series victories as captain

Golden Boot Winner in 2003 and 2006, in two different positions

ZERO Dally M Player of the Year wins (lmao)

Look at those stats and tell me he isn't one of the greatest. A more illustrious career than either Johns or Thurston can ever hope for yet you would think the latter two have won 10 premierships between them judging by how the media slobber on their dicks.

The fact he has yet to be made an immortal (and lets be honest, probably won't ever be. They just about tore out their own teeth adding in Lewis and Meninga) is a testament to the petty politics that continues to dominate the sport in Australia, even among entities not directly controlled by the administration. It is inexcusable that the discussion hasn't even been had publicly, and the entire concept is discredited until the moment he is inducted. It's a laughing disgrace that he never won even one Dally M medal.

Lockyer was always getting number 1, our best ever player and I still can't get over how he was never Sin binned or suspended either that has to be a record.

For Mundine, sure he is a total dickhead but I think he didn't play for us long enough to even be in the top 10 for hated, especially since we actually won the title the year he played.

I'm genuinely surprised Lazo didn't crack the top 50. 100+ gamer and we had him at his prime.

Maybe because his Broncs career was so long ago and most people more remember his Storm days, back flip and being in the Palmer United party.

And he is one of those oldskool players who is severely overrated.
