MANLY'S champion full-back Brett Stewart is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault on Friday night after the club's 2009 season launch.

The Sunday Telegraph understands Manly police have issued an interim AVO against the Sea Eagles player, who is the face of the NRL’s multi-million dollar advertising campaign this year.

Stewart was interviewed by Manly police until 4am this morning before being allowed to leave with his manager George Mimis.

More trouble from the Sea Eagles at their season launch. i wonder what will come out of this situation, but i doubt it will be a charge, they always seem to have problems laying sexual assault charges against league players, whether that is because they are purely just targets because of their money and profile or because they are purely guilty because they tyhink they are above the law. IMO, it is probably a combination of the two. [icon_non

They just said on the radio the NRL may have to pull the NRL ad, as he is in it.

oh no not the NRL pin up boy!!! She was probably keen for some action on the phone but then Brett rocked up and she screamed Syndrome and didn't want a bar of him.

They said the NRL will make a decision on Monday.

Lolz, what is this? Manly self destructing or something?

Two of my most hated players in strife.... I love it!

Although it did ruin my hopes of a smooth trouble free season, at least it's two players I hate and the club I hate most.

Will there be just one god damned week in this farking sport where the absolute wankers playing just don't be absolutely retarded?

FFS.

apparently the girl was only 17 too [icon_non

Agree with Nashy.

I'm SO sick of hearing about this sh*t!!! Hope we never hear about sex allegations against another footy player again but I could be wrong. Just glad it's not a Bronco.

No, the in thing is for dickhead league players to keep putting themselves in stupid situations that cause charges to be laid against them.

It's about time the NRL and clubs started taking real action.

$1000 fine is nothing to these dickheads, especially when some of them are earning 3x that in a bloody week. The wrist slapping has to stop.

Come down on them, come down bloody hard. Sack the bastards, de-register them, and tell them to piss off some other place.

Then maybe the wankers will start thinking about their actions prior to them whipping their ***** out, or deciding to fight someone.

Half the time, the situation is just that they are famous and out socially. And where has it been said that Brett Stewart has been charged?

We shall see. If he gets charged, and even if charges a dropped, he should be de-registered.

who doesn;t ove to rock out with there **** out??

The NRL have decided to suspend the advertising campaign until further information comes to light.

I heard on the news that Stewart is apparently having trouble remembering what happened (though in the interest of full disclosure, I think it was Danny Weidler who said it, so take that as you will).

Being out in Manly on a Friday/Saturday night is just asking for trouble, especially as a high profile person.

the NRL has pulled their ad campaign until the details of the incident come to light

The NRL has decided to suspend its current advertising campaign in the wake of the police investigation involving Manly player Brett Stewart.

Stewart was one of the stars of the campaign.

In doing so, the NRL is making no judgement in terms of the matters that have arisen today.

“We have considered the matter carefully throughout the day and until further light is shed on the issue we believe it is in the best interests of all parties that the campaign is suspended for the time being,†NRL chief executive David Gallop said.

The NRL will examine alternate advertising options in the next few days.

Brett is guilty. Just look at the 3 Broncos players last year.....

How can you justify him being de-registered if the charges are dropped?

Sure, he's a blue, but he's a bloody exciting player to watch when he's on and he would be a loss to rugby league IMO.

Well the content of the ad is about grassroots and family. That doesn't really mesh up with a player under investigation for a sexual assault.
