Brett Stewart under investigation for alleged sexual assault

Manly players have discussed boycotting the Dally M awards as a protest against the NRL's treatment of Brett Stewart.

I guess I can understand where they are coming from in regards to preceived double-standards, but players have continued to ignore the more minor repurcussions from past instances and so the punishments need to keep increasing until they finally get the message. Personally I'd rather see the Manly players direct their energies towards helping Brett Stewart ensure he drinks more responsibly in the future. Irrespective of what did or didn't happen at his townhouse complex, he tarnished his own and the games image by getting so s***faced at the launch.

I always thought the DNA test was weird. He would have had to have been a bloody quick mover to leave anything on/in her before her Dad came running.
[icon_lol1. If it was him, I'm sure he could've got a gig as a Nasal spray spokesperson

If this was a joke; LOLZ.

If not, I think the DNA was actually more along the lines of skin and blood under figernails, etc.

clearly, it was a joke. Although the nasal spray ads could use a bit of spicing up if you ask me. [icon_shady

Manly are just making themselves even more idiotic by going on about boycotting the nrl things. What a bunch of sooks. Take it on the chin, do the right thing and move on. Everyone remember why we hated Manly so bad in the 80's & 90's!???!!??!!!!

Hmmmm maybe that is the grand plan - they are deliberately trying to return us to the glory days of the 80s eusa_think

I think it's ridiculous that they're talking about boycotting something in however many months time. Surely they can get over it by then?!

They may not have been invited.

Hope they don't invite them.

I imagine so. And I don't necessarily have a problem with that. As far as I'm concerned his 4 week suspension was punishment for the drinking and misconduct that led to this incident. Any further punishment should be handed down by the court.

If that's a conviction, on any of these charges, then he should be sacked and deregistered permanently from the NRL, regardless of any sentence that may apply.

Yeah that's the I would see it too but things have changed in the last 2 years with all the high profile incidents and the NRL may apply a little pressure.

Then there is due process / presumption of innocence as well.

The police told the Broncos that to stand down the toilet trio would prejudice the investigation and subsequently a trial if there ever was one (ie, makes them look guilty).

I would imagine it'd be similar here. If they stood Stewart down until the trial it might give the appearance of guilt in the minds of the jury and prejudice his case?

In any event, I think the NRL would be setting themselves up for a civil lawsuit from Stewart if he was stood down and unable to ply his trade when no conviction has occurred. It'd be an interesting test case of the NRL's right to enforce its code of conduct.

I hope he doesn't take that stance, just as I hope nobody ever tries to challenge the salary cap in court....in both cases they'd probably win and that would only be bad for the NRL itself.

Gallop is a lawyer, he'll know how to handle it. Stewart won't be suspended pending the court case as they could prejudice a jury and would be denying him natural justice.

Stewart has been named at fullback this week for Manly.

He was named in round 1 too before the NRL said GTFO!

Manly star accused of second altercation

New claims have been made that the face of the National Rugby League, the Manly fullback Brett Stewart, was allegedly involved in an altercation surrounding a woman at a Central Coast hotel more than 12 months ago.

League bosses were made aware of the incident several weeks ago and were infuriated the Manly club had not passed on any details about the claims before Stewart was asked to be a key figure in the multimillion-dollar advertising campaign.

Media are pathetic, now they'll drag up things which happend when he was a child lol.

Well if the NRL had known about this, he wouldn't have been the face of the Rugby League ad.

Most of the media have painted Stewart as a near Saint.

Yeah the media is to blame. Not manly for keeping this stuff hush hush from the nrl. You'd think if there was nothing in it they'd still tell the nrl so they could paint the right picture.

**** manly are incompetent.

Manly are saying they didn't know about it.

Did they expect us to believe that.

I believe them, they would've taken the following approach:
