Broncos NYC 2014

Brisbane Broncos 34 (Drew, Tuttle, K. Nikorima, Taylor, Paia'Aua, Opacic; K. Nikorima 5/6 goals) defeated Canberra Raiders 28

That 80 minute performance still eluding the boys. Still, some strong passages and enough to take the two points on what's traditionally a tough road trip for the Broncos.

Young Broncos Up In Canberra

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos under 20s have produced a tough away win by holding off the Raiders 34-28 in a chilly Canberra tonight.

The Broncos went behind early but then took over, leading for the remainder of the game despite a late scare from the home team.

In an entertaining match, both sides had plenty of chances after the Broncos led 22-12 at halftime.

Winger Lachlan Hurst got his team back in the contest when he scored not long into the second half to cut the deficit back to four points.

However the Broncos would skip clear when they scored twice in the middle of the half.

First Kodi Nikorima found some space and then drew the fullback to give Duncan Paia’aua a clear run to the line to make it 28-18.

Then with 15 minutes to go handy winger Tom Opacic bustled his way over in the corner.
Nikorima then slotted a beautiful conversion from the sideline to hand the Broncos a match-winning break at 34-16.

The Raiders would not go away though, Hurst completing his hat-trick eight minutes from time when he just managed to ground a grubber that was dribbling towards touch in goal.

And Hurst made it four tries when he went over again to set up a heart-wrenching final minute for Broncos’ coach Craig Hodges.

Earlier the Raiders had opened out to an 8-0 lead early after wingers Cleveland McGhie and Hurst both found space down the sidelines.

But the Broncos would come roaring back immediately.

They scored on three consecutive sets to wrest the lead back from the Raiders, starting with Jordan Drew beating two defenders to dot down out wide.

The Broncos were in front when Jack Tuttle went up for a kick and managed to slam the ball down, a Nikorima goal making it 10-8.

Nikorima then put some space on the Raiders, slicing through himself to make it 16-8.
Raider second rower Patrick Mago hit a hard line out wide, bringing the match back to a four-point ball game.

But Broncos’ halfback Ashley Taylor was rewarded for some early work when he found his own way across the try line to set up a good 22-12 halftime lead, a position the Broncos went on with.

BRONCOS 34 (J Drew, J Tuttle, K Nikorima, A Taylor, D Paia’aua, T Opacic tries; Nikorima 5 goals) defeated RAIDERS 28 (L Hurst 4, C McGhie, P Mago tries; L Croker 2 goals) at GIO Stadium.

First televised game of the season will be on Saturday.

Won't be home to see it.

I caught the norths v Wynnum colts game on the weekend, there were quite a few young broncos playing from both sides. Wynnum ended up copping a bit of a hiding, but schaffer was outstanding and was a real handful with both ball in hand and defence, brimson also showed real class once again and cause all sorts of headaches but he lacked options outside of him to create more chances. Mcbride was only average and boyer-bowen is a bit of a loose cannon ( he is more worried about pushing and shoving than playing footy.) As for norths, Ostwald was at another level ( I'm not sure if he is still even at the broncos or not) but his defence is something to be seen and he gets out of dummy half so quick and makes big yards and sets up plenty of points. Frank Molo's younger brother played to and he was really good, made good metres and is a real handful out wide, spaander was pretty good too but he is only small.

Thanks Talanoa
Was Schaffer playing wing or centre?

no worries, Schaffer was playing in the centres. I actually didn't realise how big he is and for his size he is pretty nimble and quick.

Go to the pub for a schooner or lemonade. They usually have it on.

There is the joke about the guy who went to the pub, ordered 15 martinis and told the barman his wife sent him out for a jar of olives.

I'll stick to lemonade. Thanks for the info Beads
