Broncos pair cautioned by police

I haven't read a lot of posts on this topic, but I think a lot of people are missing something entirely:

Bruno Cullen is the master of the cop-out. After Wallace played up last year he went on a bit spield about how the club is going to crack down hard on anyone who did little as have their shoelaces undone while out. I think the players were only boys being boys (which is ok I think, but they probably shouldn't being who they are), but Cullen has done sfa in terms on discipline I reckon.

Yup, but guaranteed if a fringe player/Q Cup/NYC player did something similar they'd get suspended, if not have their contract torn up.

Has anyone thought that maybe the incidents were minor? Taking a leak on a wall, who hasn't done that. I 'm not sure about you guys but I've swung a kick at a few dickhead taxi drivers speeding through the city...

That may be true, but isn't the issue one of alcohol use as part of the Club's Code of Conduct Policy?

Which means to me that if the Club is to have any credibility, that Policy must be applied consistently to all players within the terms and conditions of the Policy.

Who's to say it isn't though? The 3 dunny fu(kers last year only got a fine - no suspension - as did Wallace, so why should these 2 receive anythign harsher?

I'll say it again. People on here keep on going on about the Code of Conduct, but has anyone actually seen it? If not, I'm not sure how people can be commenting on it saying it isn't being enforced. Perhaps the code of conduct says if you piss on a wall or kick/slap a car, you only get a fine, no suspension, and if you are the clubs premier player and tackle a barman while so pissed you can't remember you dont' get any punishment at all.

Perhaps the code allows them to drink the day after a game. It has already been reported that Kenny wasn't "overly" intoxicated, so he may not have actually broken anything to do with "alcohol use" in the policy. If that is the case, he's only taken a leak on a wall. Hardly worthy of front page news or being stood down for. Apparently Michaels was a little more drunk, so maybe he did break the code of conduct. Without seeing it, who knows though.

But according to Ivan at the press conference on Tuesday Kenny and Michaels did not breach the club's alcohol policy, so perhaps that explains why they have been treated the way they were. I must admit I don't know what the policy says, but if they were permitted under the policy to be out drinking, given the nature of the incidences, perhaps a fine was appropriate.

Yeah, but I mean. Kenny pissed on a wall, and Michaels slapped a car. It's not a big deal.

True, I mean, boys will be boys. Damn the moydia, it's all their folt!

Yeah. They are victims who shouldn't have to take responsability. They haven't done anything wrong.

Absolutely. Who hasn't taken a piss in public? Hell, I'm pissing right now in front of my coworkers. And I might just go out and slap a car, right after I have a 3 way with the girl at the front desk in the toilets.

But nothing wrong with that. Everybody does it. In fact, so many people do it they have one of those number dispensing machines and you have to pick one and wait til your number is called...

Sounds like my work. And proves the point that this was a nothing incident.

Yer. It doesn't stop me doing my job, or them being good at hitting blokes or throwing a football, so it shouldn't matter.

And who cares if sponsors leave, there's companies lining up to throw money at a club of drunken yobbos who piss in the gutter or chase blokes down the street and bash 'em. Who wouldn't want to be associated with such fine young men? Just imagine the slogans "Buy our product or Ian Lacey will king hit you". Or "A Bronco pissed on your wall? No worries, Wattyl Pissgard will not warp, peel or fade under alcohol-covered liquid of any kind". Magic stuff!

It's amazing when you put it like that. These incidents will only help the club!

Broncos know this, and that's why they secretly abolished their player conduct and alcohol document. Bruno is a genious.

Yep, in fact, they go to potential sponsors with tricky catch phrases and marketing slogans and say "mate, we've got players ready to go out to your farm when you're ready, just leave the sheep accessible...."

"Oh, and we've got the Daily Telegraph photographers and reporters there, and Danny Widdler, as well as a sign for Big Bronco Lamb Skewers"....

It DOES matter that the incidents are minor. I don't disagree that any incident, minor or otherwise, will give the club bad publicity. However, surely the severity of the incident should be taken in to account when handing out punishments.

Yes, Kenny and Michaels gave the club pad publicity and should be disciplined for doing so, however, it's a joke that some people on here are suggesting they should be sacked from the club for such a MINOR incident, especially given it's their first offence (unless there have been cover ups), and in Kenny's case, especially given the high standing he has in the game (being names NRL community whatever he was of the month). A small fine would be more than sufficent.

Geez, with the way some of you go on, it's no wonder the media keep beating up stories like this - it's the sort of reaction they want. If people cared a little less about players personal lives, the media wouldn't bother running stories like this.
