We haven't had a big signing since izzy Folau.

go through the history of the club ... you can count the number of really big signings on one hand ...

We typically don't go to the market, we rely on our development programs

When asked if the Broncos had any big name signings up their sleeves the Lurker responded saying, "Broncos have been signing big names for 25 years" or some shit. Do people really think that's the case? Are they really willing to fabricate things to make us look like the Roosters or Bulldogs?

Have I missed any somewhat big signings we have made? Imagine who the Roosters/Rabbits have signed in comparison.

It depends on your definition of big name signings. Unless you're a representative player or on the brink of becoming one (ala Prince and Milford) then it doesn't count.

Only going back 25 years...

1991- Trevor Gillmeister
1992- Glenn Lazarus
1993-
1994-
1995- Darren Smith
1996-
1997- Gorden Tallis, Anthony Mundine

2004- Motu Tony, Darren Smith
2005- Justin Hodges, Brad Thorn
2006-
2007-
2008- Joel Clinton, PJ Marsh, Ashton Sims
2009- Israel Folau
2010-
2011- Ben Hannant
2012- Petero Civoniceiva
2013- Scott Prince
2014- Ben Barba, Martin Kennedy
2015- Adam Blair, Anthony Milford, Darius Boyd
2016- James Roberts

It depends on the type of point you're making. If you're arguing that the Broncos don't develop their own talent, then that's wrong since they usually bring back returning players. If the argument is that they somehow retain an awesome roster and sign marquee players on top of that, then there is something to it.

I actually thought PJ Marsh was a big signing back when they signed him.

Unfortunately, that thought changed when he was a mixed bag for us. Had some good moments, but he wasn't anything special.

It was a shame. I liked Marsh, I always thought he was underrated.

Injuries ruined him, really.

Kevin Walters was a handy signing, think he played origin before he came to Broncs. A few others that didn't work out, but were big names at the time nonetheless - Sam Backo (aus and qld rep),Tony Currie (Aus and qld), Peter Jackson (Aus and qld), Dale Shearer (aus and qld), All big names in the day but never really saw the best of them at the Broncos.

Yes, but outside of Kevie making a cameo in 2001, none of them signed within 25 years.

Which is why 91 was the cut-off.

Sure but who give a shit about the lurkers 25 years... they are big signings in Bronco history outside of their initial entry into the comp.

Is Jarad Wallace headed to the Titans? Heard that on the radio today. Surely the Broncos can afford to keep him.

Probably true, he doesn't always make 10+ metres a run so he is useless.

Oh I see where you're coming from. My bad, I missed Foordy's initial post.

In fairness, it comes down to what's meant by really big signings. If that denotes any representative player, then it's fair to say that Foordy has a medical condition. Last time I checked, having 20+ fingers isn't normal!

However, if Lazarus is considered the measuring stick, then I can certainly see where the point is coming from.

Not to mention, most expansion clubs have to sign players in order to be viable. That's true for a lot of sports around the world. So I don't necessarily think it indicates that one side is likely to go to the market.

Since I said we typically rely on our development programs, I am limiting the big signings we have made to players not developed by us ... so IMO the really big signings we have made over the last 25 years are:

1991- Trevor Gillmeister
1992- Glenn Lazarus
1997 - Anthony Mundine, Gordon Tallis
2009- Israel Folau
2015- Anthony Milford,

you could possibly add the 2001 version of Scott Prince, as if not for Injuries, he very likely would have been a long term halfback for us.

maybe evben Barba (not long after his Dally M award; he was a victim of Hooks KFC diet IMO)

and Roberts - fresh from his award as center of the year award.

The others players signed over this time were either returning players, Good (but certainly not Star) signings or average

Can we make a different thread for this please?
