He comes from Logan and wears the number 9, unfortunately he plays for a team in purple.

Then there is also the guy from Toowoomba, the Broncos former feeder club’s own backyard deemed too small and plays for a team up north.

I feel like the current broncos team lacks a cult figure, a spiritual leader that the fans are in awe of or a hero that kids will look up to and want to be. Something is just missing. But 2018 could be the year

It's Milford.

He's our guy. He is what makes our team special. But like Locky, all those years ago, he needs the other blokes to do what they need to do, and he will shine.

When I look at Darren Lockyer at his best, I see a team leader who possessed the quality kicking and passing game and an outstanding ability to read the opposition. The sort of player who has that aura around him and the players around him would bleed for, the likes of Langer, Lewis and even Walters had.

When I look at Milford I see a player who when he turns up to play can be a potential game winner with his running game, but lacks in several key areas that makes all the difference in such a key position when the pressure is applied against the real quality sides and unless he improves there he will never have that aura about him and the Broncos will need another player to provide it.

When Lockyer made his debut in 1995 you could see straight away he had it all, the running, kicking and passing game and absolutely calm under pressure and that was his first taste of top grade. When Langer or Walters were absent, the Broncos lost absolutely nothing when the young Lockyer came in as a starter. How he handled his early years you would swear he was a seasoned player. By 1997 he was amongst the best players in the game, probably the best fullback in the game(despite being a 5/8th manufactured into a fullback).

With Milford his had 5 seasons (one with Walters and several with Langer there to learn from and he had the opportunity to work with Lockyer but knocked it back) and the problem areas still exist, plenty of halves at present have a quality running game, but they also possess more in other areas and as the go to man that makes a hell of a difference. For him to be said player he needs to develop that extra level to his game and time is running out, otherwise when it's crunch time we will continue to be found wanting.

He definitely has the potential but has a bit of growing up to do. Too many times when the game isn't going well he'll throw his toys out of the cot and has some pretty big tantrums. Once he can get over that and have that calm presence like Lockyer he'll start to shine.

Agreed. But consider for the last few years he was looking up to Hunt (and Boyd, as far as having a sook goes) - no excuses this year. This is his team.

I would take Locky's help on ANYTHING in life. I would guess the whole turning down Locky's help publicly wasn't all his own doing.

Milford doesn't have Langer and Walters alongside him and I don't deny that and I'll be fair minded it would make Milford's job a hell of a lot easier too. But at the same time Lockyer already possessed the areas Milford lacks before Langer and Walters took him under their belt full time, he was a natural going straight into first grade, I don't think I have seen another player at the Broncos coming through our system that adapted as well as he did. Milford doesn't have that same calmness about him, he can be prone to focusing too much on throwing fits and milking for penalties and hasn't shown any progression in other areas of his game he needs to.

Is Milford our best hope in the roster we have at present to be that player? To an extent I agree but I think that speaks more about our options in the spine more then anything. 2015 was 2015 and Ben Hunt was equally outstanding up until that grand final so lets not make it out it was all him. 2016-17 he has been mixed(superior to Hunt by far though I'll grant), had his shares of highs and lows and I'm willing to give him some benefit of the doubt from last season with the injury he was carrying. Nothing would please me more for Milford to make the step up, show that he has worked hard in the off-season, displaying more maturity and more importantly having more on his resume then just a running game would go a long way to proving it. It's crunch time for Milford, he is on the big bucks now and been at the club for 3 years now, time to deliver.
