Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Think we try and keep all 3 of those, realistically Haas is probably the only one of those 3 guys who will be asking for more than the minimum, purely because of the hype around him. We've already locked up Fifita until 2020, so hopefully we got him at a decent price.

I could be wrong, but I think Flegler and Carrigan have fairly recently re-signed.

Sports Confidential: Could a return to Brisbane be on the cards for Israel Folau?
f539500e711ea0ebe5016dd960f894d2

ISRAEL Folau is being whispered as a real chance to turn up in Brisbane Broncos colours next season.
Is he interested in playing under Craig Bellamy again?
While many believe Folau will chase the greater riches of European rugby it’s understood that much of his desire to get out of the 15-man code is because he is tired of the constant travel taking him away from family.
A move to Europe would not fix that.
The most intriguing part of the Bellamy-to-Broncos story is that Bellamy refuses to deny it, even though he was told a denial would immediately end speculation. Instead, Bellamy has been saying he does not want to talk about, hoping that will shut it down.

Could Folau make a return to Brisbane?
One of Bellamy’s great strengths at Melbourne is his honesty. Without honesty there is no accountability and so he does not want to deny it if there is a shred of truth.
The Brisbane plan is to give Bellamy a year off to recharge his batteries and plot Brisbane’s squad for 2020. The rest also means he would not have to coach against Billy Slater and Cameron Smith if they decide to play next season.
Meanwhile, Wayne Bennett sees out his last season which, given yesterday’s press conference walkout, might be an unhappy time.
Certainly Bennett has never been in this position before. He usually does the stalking.

Is Folau still good? He'll be 30 next year, past his prime surely.

I wouldn't be starting either Haas or Fifita so early.

I still Think Bird will eventually move into Lock pushing McGuire back to prop. plus we still have Glenn next season and I think he will and should start in the 11. assuming we lose Lodge this would be my full strength forward rotation next season.

8. McGuire
9. McCullough
10. TPJ
11. Glenn
12. Gillett
13. Bird

14. Haas
15. Ofahengaue
16. Carrigan/Fifita (only if Fifita plays ISC at some stage this year and depending who goes better in the trials)
17. Su'A

YEah I think this will likely be the team, although I wouldn't be surprised if we kept Lodge. I think it's unlikely the Broncos would want to lose Thaiday, Sims, Lodge and Oates all in the one season...

I know it is the Daily Telegraph but that reasoning actually does make a lot of sense in terms of Bellamy. In terms of Folau, it makes way more sense to wind up at the Titans.

God that would be a absolutely huge boost for the club if we get Folau next year and Bellamy the next. That would surely put a premiership trophy on our mantel.

Folau will follow the money overseas. Just like he did with us, the AFL and then Union.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but i'm not so sure of that he will...... IF it is true that he offered to walk away from his big money union contract based on his not wanting to tone down his views then there is a chance that he might 'follow his heart' wherever that takes him.

Having said that, whether we want him is a different story. He'd demand (and the NRL would expect him to be on a market value contract), so that would probably mean Fullback where our captain currently plays and has 3 yrs left to run after this year. Not to mention the negative press and potential loss of fans/sponsor angst we'd receive if we signed him.

Regards to his form, i think he's still got insane skill and ability. Based on that alone (an ignoring all the points above), it would be a nobrainer.

I can't see it happening.

This is what shits me about these stories.

This story was a pure speculative piece by Badel followed up with a show me the money headline when all that had happened was Bellamy said never say never when asked a pie in the sky question.

Now it's part of the Broncos plan, no confirmation of any sort, just invented drivel.

They may as well ask WB if he thinks there is any chance of life on another planet , " well you can't completely rule it out I suppose" says Wayne, then go with a headline of Wayne Bennett believes in Aliens.
It's fucking moronic reporting.

He's still in very good physical form, but good fullback play in union is miles off the pace of what is required from an NRL fullback nowadays.

He would still be a beast center in NRL, but who the hell wants to spend that kind of cash on a centre. Really hope this is all just Kent's usual BS.... does he even have a source in Brisbane (outside of Badel)

Absolutely moronic, and completely expected. Bennett is right. They get paid to talk about controversial issues in the NRL. If there are no issues to report, they are out of a job, soooo they make things up. They zero in a single quote and create a scenario that the public buys as truth.
So Wayne shuts it all down press conference after press conference. I love watching him do it, he is a master of it. Gives them nothing to work with other than exactly what he wants them to focus on. The focus today is him storming out of a press conference because he is feeling ’under pressure’, yet in reality he has taken pressure off the team to just focus on tonight’s game.

In return for him shutting down questions, he gets petulant “journalists” bagging him, but in reality it’s exactly what he wants. He loves it, he thrives on it and he has been around doing it a hell of a lot longer than the Badels/Dobbos/Kent’s of the media. He has seen it all, and plays them all like a fiddle.

Their, and the Knights, MO is to offer twice as much as other clubs are willing to offer players, so how can they afford to sign Folau of all people? I don't get how the Knight or Tits could be in the running for any big signing when they pay players like Moga 400k, and there's more than one Moga like player on similiar contracts in their squads.

SBW came back to League, and he's a better player in both codes than Folau: he's won a WC, plays for the ABs, etc. If the Roosters could make it work with him, surely we can make Folau work if he's interested.

I watched a Folau highlight video of when he was playing for the broncos.

Very early in the video there was a set play that made me wet! Wallace to Locky our the back to Hunt who throws a great cut out ball and Folau scores in the corner. Now it doesn’t sound that great but the timing and the crispness of each pass was excellent! I just wish we could produce that still. Those were the days!

We really should have won a premiership with Locky, Wallace, Hodges, JYY, Folau and Hunt all playing in the same backline. Come to think of it how did we even afford to pay anyone else?

I'm hoping the Folau rumour is the usual dribble from journos. Not doubting his talent but I think it would be crazy to spend the money that he would command on someone heading towards the back end of his career and hasn't played a game of rugby league in 8 years. Would prefer that money to be saved for a specialist halfback to partner Milf or to retain our up and coming forwards.

Yeah and hopefully at another club. Some of the best front rowers in the game are only getting that money just now

Unless boyd is retiring!

Cheers @Foordy for the correction. 100% agree, I will be more thoughtful in future.
