My mistake... I forgot that halves a re judged on their defence ...

No need to recruit a new half then .... we have got plenty of backrowers we can use instead

I think his point is, you need to be untouchable in attack if you are going to let in 2-3 tries a game.

The post displayed 4 key attacking stats, all of which DCE was superior in and you chose to react to the 2 defensive stats. They were in bold, but that only highlighted how he offers less in attack and is a significantly worse defender than not only DCE but than anyone else in the comp.

They're judged on all facets of their game, they're NRL players, you can't just cherry pick which parts of Maloney you want, you get the whole package, missed tackles and all.

I'd happily argue that DCE is better than Maloney in every aspect of Rugby League right now anyway, Jimmy is living off his previous accomplishments & form, has been for a while.

stats never tell the full story ... when Maloney was running the side the Panthers were close to the top of the NRL ladder ... but his injury as seen the start to fall.

if stats did tell the full story then Milford and Hunt are worth similar money, Hunt might be worth a tad more (which i don't think is the case) ... for example

Hunt has 6 tries; 17 TAs; 9 LBs; 63 TB; 346 Tackles (86 MT)
Milford has 6 tries; 13 TAs; 11 LBs; 62 TB; 260 Tackles (48 MT)

I believe Maloney will be better for our needs ... not only would he compliment Milford well, but we could sign him on a 2 year contract for likely less than a million a season.

to get DCE it would take a contract well over 1 million for 6 odd years. we could never afford to do that

Don’t forget interceptions, that’s part of the package too.

That entirely depends on whether a club is trying to entice him away from Manly while under contract or he's shopping himself around because he wants out of Manly. If it's the latter he'll have to take what's on offer.

Both would improve the team but I'd prefer DCE.

I think wb would get the best out of DCE, but can't see it happening unless we carve into our current side.
The way are playing and the attitude they are showing, I wouldn't be telegraphing any end of season signings or anything else that might put them off their game.
This streak needs to last 4 more games.

So you want to get to the GF and lose it? :P

Fair enough. I must be a massichist hehe. Obviously my maths are a little off (or I'm sympathetic to manly...nah :)

Goodness me, Gillett can't catch a break.

I thought his shoulder was still bothering him, you could tell by his defense, wasn't as sharp as usual to start the season, maybe a blessing in disguise that he got the year off, hopefully he's 100% by pre-season and back to his best, running off DCE :)

I must admit I'd think DCE would be a great addition to the 2019 squad but I just can't see it happening unless DCE and Manly can agree with Manly paying a substantial part of his wage. That assumes that it's even a thing WB would be considering but DCE is a hell of a player.

I believe DCE could make us a heck of a team, but what would the cost to the squad be even if he took a haircut on the salary - it would cost us any hope of securing Oates and we'd still probably have to cut Kahu and Glenn to get under cap - then TPJ - we'd have to lowball him to have any hope.

We'd honestly look like the sydney rorters if we brought him in...

Plenty of rumours Glenn and perhaps Kahu may be gone anyway. Add them to Sammi and Korbin and Bird who we’d have to let go and I’d say there is a fair bit of difference between us and the Rorters...

We've got money left over from Gorden Tallis retiring.

The best thing about signing DCE over Maloney would be that we wouldn't have to worry about our halves positions for a very long time.

The worst thing about signing DCE over Maloney would be losing the next Nathan Cleary due to DCE still being around.

Wouldn't be so bad to lose them if we are winning with the QLD origin halfback.
