Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

The best thing about signing DCE over Maloney would be that we wouldn't have to worry about our halves positions for a very long time.

The worst thing about signing DCE over Maloney would be losing the next Nathan Cleary due to DCE still being around.

Wouldn't be so bad to lose them if we are winning with the QLD origin halfback.

given their price tags we would need to choose between Milford and DCE (especially given the money we are investing in our pack)

Maloney has come out and said he has no intentions of leaving the Panthers ... apparently all that happened is that the Titans enquired about Maloney with his manager/club and both basically said "no"

Plenty of rumours Glenn and perhaps Kahu may be gone anyway. Add them to Sammi and Korbin and Bird who we’d have to let go and I’d say there is a fair bit of difference between us and the Rorters...

Sammi and Korbin's money has probably already gone on upgrading Haas.

It seems logical to me that all the money saved from playings like Sims leaving has been spent on upgrading all these potentially special young players like TPJ, Haas and Su'A.

Surely there is no room left in the cap. The club seems happy to persist with Nikorima at 7 because he's reasonably cheap and it allows them to retain other players.

Still yet to be seen how contracts pan out. Would have enough money for DCE if we lost Kahu, Glenn, Oates and Bird.. possibly Nikorima.

Kahu, Glenn and Oates would only be worth half of DCE's contracts and still need to be replaced by players on a minimum 100k.

Bird is going nowhere ... regardless of whether people want him to or not ... and if he does, we are likely going to have to cover a portion of his contract fro the next 3 years ...

I certainly can't see DCE coming to us for less than a million for a 3-4 year contract, which he will need to if he wants to play for us.

You wouldn't because you still have to pay them and now they're playing for someone else. Only Oates is off contract. Unless the rule changed you'd also now have three/four spots in your 30 taken up

Why would we still have to pay Kahu or Glenn? They aren't on egregious contracts, in fact they're probably under market value, whoever took them off our hands would gladly pay their current contract values. Only person that would apply to is Bird, who I doubt we're releasing either way.

you're right .. from our point our view the problem with releasing Kahu and Glenn to make room in the cap is that they aren't on big contracts, meaning we don't actually save that much cap space by releasing them since they still need to be replaced in the top 30 by players on at least 100k

Why would you take them at their Broncos' value and not get a better deal for you? That doesn't seem too smart to me, if a club wants to release a player I'd be getting them to pay something.

Because they won't leave the Broncos if they get lesser offers from another club? They're already on very moderate wages as far as I know. And from our point of view, as Foordy just touched on, there's not a massive advantage for us losing them on their current wages as it is, so for us to have to pay a % of their wage on top of that would just negate any positive effect of the transition in the first place..

The player can't lose money. But if Glenn is on 300K and the Broncos want him gone- he agrees and Tigers want him they would be stupid to say we will take him for 300K.

Tigers surely say you pay 150K we will pay 150K. Make the Broncos pick up some of the tab I would have thought would be smart from another club.

Up to the Broncos then if they want that.

You're probably correct in the sense that that's what the clubs trying to poach Glenn & Kahu will try and do, but if White has any balls he'll just hardball them and say either you get him at the full value of the contract or we just keep him.

Seems like a pretty hard negotiation to lose.

Would we be prepared to pay Norman 500-600? :)

With the way Milford is improving I think the team will only stick a budget halfback with him as Milford needs to be the guy in charge to excel. Stick a dce in there and we'd probably see Milford go back into his shell again.
