Depends on the cash I suppose. How much affinity does he still have with Newcastle. Are his parents still there?

Pretty sure his parents live in canberra. Could be wrong though.

If we lose TPJ I’m giving up on broncos wait scratch that the NRL.

There is a good chance that TPJ won't be a career Bronco ... especially if Bennett turns down the offer of a front office job from 2020.

and lets be real here. it's not like TPJ was one of our juniors that another club is trying to poach. we poached him first

We should offer him what ever he wants

you do realise that there is a little thing called the "Salary Cap" that prevents us from doing that, right?

He’ll stay.

Who wants to be play under that spud Brown.

In all honesty, the guy would be crazy not to field offers from other clubs .... even if he has no intention of leaving.

The guy is in huge demand in the NRL and it wouldn't hurt for him to see what clubs were willing to dish out for him.

Why would he need to tour Newcastle’s facilities, wasn’t he a junior there?

That’s what makes me believe this is about getting us to pay more rather than leaving.

He is one of the best forwards in the nrl just from a year at starting. So we need to do as other clubs do and let people go to get the money.

We are indeed limited by the cap especially with so many young guns to appease . That said I have to believe we would have a tidy war chest set aside to keep him happy. However our culture demands that all our players need to want to be a Bronco first and foremost to be part of our system. So if he doesn’t want to stay and play under those terms I say good riddance.

we don't have anyone left to let go ... he will get a decent offer, but we won't be able to compete with the Knights financially. especially not after re-signing Isaako, Lodge, Su'A on upgraded deals and that monster deal we gave to Haas.

plus we are still trying to retain Oates

My thoughts are that Brisbane and TPJ had a verbal contract extension so the club and he would have had talked $ at some point and the club would have put away the $ they had agreed upon. With Wayne having one foot out the door now, that’s upset TPJ and very possible that he would now want more $ to stay in Brisbane.

It could also be a ploy on TPJ and Wayne’s behalf, saying if we let Wayne go, we will also loose TPJ. I think the knights have said in recent weeks they have 700k+ to spend on a big name. Not sure how, but he will be the most indemand player if he allows himself to look at all options.

The board won't be held hostage by a player

regardless what players say publicly, they all always look at every option available to them, and anyone who says different is lying ... even the great one club players like Lockyer, looked at their options at contract time

Like who? We need depth and i think you need to realise its not just as simple as saying stuff like just get rid of Kahu and Glenn for example. How do you propose we keep all our promising kids like Staggs, Sua, Fifita, Haas, Flegler, Carrigan, Paix, Boyd and still keep proven NRL players like Lodge, TPJ, Roberts, Gillett etc.

You need to face up to the fact is we cant keep them all. We will lose some.

We should give the Knights a current QLD rep player to allow us to keep TPJ.

So you can accept paying big money for unproven Haas for top notch nrl star TPJ. TPJ is especially our best forward and close to our most influential player on the field. Let Oates go and see if we can move on Glenn, Kahu, and especially Bird.

you can't just tell contracted players to leave ... if you do, then you have to ensure they get the same amount at their new clubs ... and smart clubs will low ball the players to not only get them cheaper, but to **** our salary cap as well.

FTR, offering Haas that monster deal was a mistake that could come back to bite us on the ass ... it is the type of mistake that gets made, when a club does what you want and gives players a blank cheque.

Clubs would surely offer Glenn and Kahu contracts 2 formal internationals after all.
