Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Clubs would surely offer Glenn and Kahu contracts 2 formal internationals after all.

i'm not saying they wouldn't ... i am saying that they will offer them small contracts to get them cheaper and force us carry them on our salary cap ... and since Kahu and Glenn aren't on huge contracts it defeats the purpose of releasing them in the first place ... that is assuming they are prepared to leave in the first place ...

you seem to forget that we need a squad of 30 players. any player that we release still needs to be replaced in the top 30 squad by another player on the NRL minimum wage of 120k. what you propose simply erodes our depth to the point that if we get an injury we are fucked as we have no depth what-so-ever

If we can’t afford to re-sign TPJ, I’d be happy to lose Oates to keep him.

In fact, I’d be happy to pressure Boyd into retirement, or even let Bird go back to the Sharks.

TPJ is our best player at the moment, and the type of player we can build a pack around for a decade.

So you can accept paying big money for unproven Haas for top notch nrl star TPJ. TPJ is especially our best forward and close to our most influential player on the field. Let Oates go and see if we can move on Glenn, Kahu, and especially Bird.

I never said i'd have given Haas such a big contract, in fact, i've argued against giving these kids big contracts.

AS much as i like TPJ, i'd keep others over him anyway from what i've seen from him over the past couple of seasons quite honestly. His ability isnt in question, he is a superb player, but he is also a player who is always getting niggly injuries, and the older he gets the worse they tend to get. That could change, you never know, but i dont think he is our best forward anyway. Lodge for me has consistently played well and been more reliable. He doesn't give away the stupid penalties TPJ is prone to doing either.

Also, like i keep asking you, how do you propose to move these under contract players on? Do you go behind their backs and try to find them a club, or just tell them you don't want them and risk disrupting the squad harmony. If we try to move them on, you have to remember, we will be paying part of their contracts.

TPJ is a priority re-sign. Not 100% sold that Oates isn't as important though given his record on the wing for us and in the NRL in general... We have plenty of forwards coming through, but Oates is a unique player who gives us an edge in that position. It's a tough call: TPJ is the better player but we can cover him if the knights come in and throw 1 mil or something ridiculous at him, especially if Carrigan is as good as predicted.

On the knights, how can they keep throwing money around? They have several blokes on massive overs, their squad may be shit but they're still spending cash like crazy...

EDIT: When is Arrow off contract? That could soften the blow, and I very much doubt that the Titans have 600-700k in their cap to outbid us if we wanted him. IF TPJ is looking around and is eventually going to abandon us I would be looking at getting Arrow back, even if we do re-sign TPJ for say 2 years.

I back the club here tbh. They had Fifita on big money since before he could play NRL and he's the pick of our forward jrs. Haas is a huge unit with a huge motor and only 18. Benefit of the doubt until they're proven wrong with a dud.

This has taken the shine off of TPJ for me big time. I get players should rightfully get the best price for themselves but as a fan it was massively refreshing to have a player come out and put his foot down in regards to rumours about him signing elsewhere like TPJ did, now he has gone back on that and is looking to up his price or leave. Very dissapointing, i hate seeing the club held to ransom. We are the broncos, we arent the bloody knights or tigers.

He stated in april (?) that he wanted to become the best and win premierships and dally m’s. Whilst this can all be achieved at any of the 15 other clubs, there is no doubt if you truly wanted these things brisbane would give you the best opportunity to achieve this over the next few years with its pressure to perform, facilities and staffing capacity. The roster aint looking too bad either...

For me, if he wants to go back on his word he isnt the type of player I thought he was and I wouldnt be as dissapointed as i would have been to see him leave. Reason being, if he does go back on his word he wouldnt have the right attitude to become the player he wants to be, and while he may flourish for a season or 2 at a new club when the tough times inevitably roll around at whichever club he goes to he will probably have to keep looking at his bank account to keep happy. Even the storm (smith retiring) and the roosters (ditching a player in hard times - eg jnik or skd, tpj assault accusations may have had him without a contract) arent as well safeguarded against hard times as we are.

I get he is an explosive highlight reels player, and we have needed his aggression, but WE ARE THE BRONCOS and we shouldnt be held to ransom by ANY PLAYER... flegler, carrigan, sua, ofa, d fifita, haas, gillett, glenn, mcguire, lodge, and mago will still be the best forward pack in the comp even if we lost another one of them or 1 or 2 didnt reach their potential...

I will of course take this back if it was simply a courtesy meeting with the knights and he never had any intention of leaving the broncos but it is looking like my favourite part about him as a player (his passion for the club and his attitude) has now been lost...

We are indeed limited by the cap especially with so many young guns to appease . That said I have to believe we would have a tidy war chest set aside to keep him happy. However our culture demands that all our players need to want to be a Bronco first and foremost to be part of our system. So if he doesn’t want to stay and play under those terms I say good riddance.

Not true, we are a one team town with massive TPA advantages (said every NSW journo)

TPJ should look at Ese Ese and ask if the money is worth not playing finals, year after year

We have the best staff and facilities for managing and preventing injuries as well. If he goes to a basketcase like Newcastle who knows how long his body will hold up for? You can only play blokes through injury for so long until they break (Bird).

Don't stress guys, TPJ touring the Knight facilities is just Wayne using his big head and getting revenge on Nathan Brown for insulting him.

I guarantee this will happen all over again once joffa comes off contract too. I hope we lock these guys down soon

Can’t really see joffa staying imo ,
We have haas , Lodge , Tpj , carrigan and fledger
Some desperate club will offer him a lot of $

Two of which haven’t even played first grade yet. I don’t think Joe is worried about those guys

Carrigan will play Origin. No doubt about it in my mind. The best forward we have coming through imo.

So will Joe :/

Could possibly have 4-5 Origin forwards in the next 2 years.
