Yeah Brandon Smith is the type of player you would want.

He may not be the most talented player, but he's a footballer. He is competitive, full of energy and he fights to get the win. You need players like these.

We would have had that with Jack Bird. But his injuries ruined that.

But I wouldn't be throwing a million at him. Grant on the other hand, happy to throw that much.

No, but you wouldn't need to.

For Smith, it's going to come down to opportunities. He wants to be a starting 9. He's not going to stick around at the Storm if he doesn't get it. So we wouldn't need to pay overs to get him.

I'd prefer we sign Brandon Smith over Grant for the simple fact that if we ended up ruining their careers (and these days there is a high chance we probably will) then I'd prefer that career was Smith's as Queensland desperately need Grant to kick on and become elite.

lot of love on here for Brandon Smith

Can i play devils advocate; is he just another player who thrives in the Storm system, but wouldnt necessarily in another

Note; we dont actually play Rugby league here at the Broncos, not sure what we play but i digress...

Any thoughts...?
Doubtful he also dominates for the NZ national team and destroyed the Aussies in a recent test match despite barely playing hooker for his club side

I recal reading how during pre-season training Brandon was awarded some highly sought after accolade at the Storm which recognizes strength, teamwork, work ethic and the wllingness to go the extra mile for a mate. Exactly what we've been missing lately.

The iron bar- the army guys that take them on pre-season camp give it to the Storm guy that wins man of the camp.

With all due respect to Origin, I couldn’t give a shit if he wins 15 straight being a Storm hooker.

I want Broncos premierships

I am also of a similar line of thought. My belief is that he is a strong ball runner and all that but I feel you already have those sorts of players and a lot of you are glossing over how well Turpin played last year for you. I really don't think getting Brandon would upgrade your hooker spot substantially. What the team is missing is game smarts and management etc. through experience. Obviously CS9 would help there but I doubt it will happen and even if Storm don't keep Grant I would be surprised if Tigers didn't snatch him up. I really don't think Brandon is the answer in that regard and would just be chucking another promising player into the line up. I will digress I haven't watched large amounts of Brandon at hooker but will he really bring much that Turpin can't do?

Turpin played 'well' as a fill in halfback. His games at 9 weren't that great. Paix has played much better in his short stint than Turpin did last year at 9.

Note taken. I may have to relook over some games because everyone I'd spoken to previously thought he was a revelation last year. Interesting.

RE; Brandon Smith

Thanks for the quality feedback

For mine; id be looking at Smith as a potential new lock forward for us, with the added bonus he could come in and cover the 9 position when needed

Look, its startingly obvious we need a new spine, and for me if 6 again rule continues you have to include a lock as part of the spine equation

This is now so important for our immediate future; we need to be decisive and targeted as to who the top 3 targets attainable for us in the 1,6,7,13 & 9

Id be prepared to wait 2 years also in order to obtain the right players for these positions

For whats its worth; heres how id rate the available Locks who realistically ARE avaiable and would IMPROVE our team going forward in the 6-again era;

1. Finucane - 28 years old, off contract 2021
2. B Smith - 24 years old, off contract 2022
3. Cameron McInnes - 26 years old, off contract 2021

Or, Brisbane find someone who they can develop into the modern ball playing lock we would need to match the best teams. McInnes is a bolter only cause ive watched him lately at 13 and he has the ability to be a defensive lynchpin there but has the vision and ball skills required...

Anyway, means **** all but thats whats available fromk not a large group at all...
