Someone posted this in a group I'm in. However, I can't find the actual post anywhere, or anything backing this up.
Probably fake eh, but even if it was real, it really doesn't matter too much, he has no grounds to get out of the deal and you just know Mal won't let him walk

Tell you what, if Kevvie does get the gig, I would very much expect Christian Welch to be his first signing for us. Pre-game on Fox NRL today, Kev gave an absolutely glowing endorsement of Welch and why he regards him so highly in the origin side. Coming from the Storm system, I would say Welch is exactly what we need to stiffen both attitude and defence amongst our ranks.

I just read an article on zero tackle stating Benji Marshall won't be offered a contract for next year by the tigers (no actual quotes though). Given whats available and our desperate need for some leadership I think Benji would be great for 1 year to partner Dearden.

Not again. Benji has shown very little respect for the career lifeline he was given here and the last thing we need are more players that will use the club for their purposes and give nothing back.
What??? What did he do?

I wouldn’t, He re signed with Melbourne this week. Manager informed the dragons last week.

There you go, wasn't aware of that. Oh well, who else decent can we sign??

no one really ... not a good year for off contract players.

if we're looking to add some experience to the pack, there is James Tamou, Aidan Guerra and Aidan Tolman off contract, but i wouldn't pay through the roof for any of those guys. but they could add a bit of a harder edge to our pack

Yeah just checked Zero Tackle off contract players, you're right Foordy, the cupboard is a little bare eh. The 3 you mention seem about the best of the rest really. Hopefully salary cap pressures at some clubs result in some players being unexpectedly cut loose a year early.

Oour most pressing issue was always the ag between when we sacked the coach, recruit a new CEO and sort out various player related indicresions is the player market continues to turn.

Quite a few nice roster additions "could"have been approached if all the above was in place today, sadly thats not the case.

So yeh, we are missing out and there wont be a whole lot that makes sense for us to chase...

2022 is the year for mine....work towards making that time frame the key one..

I am not actually sure next year even can't be a huge year. This year the side has been forged in the hottest of all fires and through it all, we've seen the nucleus of a gun side form - Carrigan, Haas, Farnworth, Dearden and Staggs. Flegler, Niu and Coates to a FAR lesser extent have all put their hand up and are trying their guts out and have swum (or at least stayed afloat) where so many others have sunk - Milford, Croft, Joffa, Lodge (injuries), Turpin, Boyd, Oates to an extent, TPJ have all been found wanting.

The key is to get the right coach in who can re-instil some self-belief in these kids and who can turn a tide when it eventually comes crashing in next year. To do that, you need to bring in some depth first and sweat on that unexpected fish to become available.

So the side must bring in Opacic, Alan, Drinkwater/Clifford, Guerra and one or two other depth players who on base wages but also with some experience to come in whenever injury necessitates their need. This side currently has no depth that is ready to do that.

So next year bring in:

2020 - Opacic, Guerra, Drinkwater, Proctor (if on a low wage ONLY), Alan, +1 unexpected big fish who becomes available if they do (hopefully Grant). Upgrade some of the kids who have earned it - Dearden, Carrigan, Haas, Staggs and lock them all up longer term.

2021 - Go all in on a gun available player.

You never know what the pre-season will dish up, all we need is one player to be disgruntled, one player to be looking for more game time and one to use the classic ‘home sick’ excuse and we have filled the gaps.

I like the look of Jack Hetherington on loan to the Warriors from Penrith. He is a bit older at 24 and would be looking for some regular first grade.

I really like your optimism and it's a good post but jeez i think we have a habit of overrating some of our own young guys. I'm just not sure about Farnworth, Flegler, Niu and Coates being the nucleus of a "gun" side. I reckon all other 15 clubs could name 4 young players in the 19-21 year old bracket who's fans think they have just as much upside as them. Not saying they are bad players, just not a point of difference vs. the other clubs.

Personally for a huge year (i would call huge top 4 finish) i think we need 2 of the spine positions to be in the conversation as top 5 in the position, i'm not sure who delivers that in 2021.

I think 7th or 8th finish next year would be a success and 9th to 10th with less blow outs a par score given the likelihood of not much change in the playing roster.

Might not be a bad option if cheap, which he should be. Struggled to get a go last year under Cleary after debuting under Griffin the year prior but has had a real dig at the Warriors.

A combo of Martin, Yeo, JFH, Tetevano and Capewell have really shut the door on him at the Panthers so he should be an easy pickup for someone if a club was motivated enough.

Neither Drinkwater or Allen are off contract next year

Drinkwater is the odd man out up there tho, with Val and the Hammer at fullback, they need to squeeze him into the halves at the expense of Clifford or play him off the bench which I don't think he will want to do. He may want out and they may look to let him go to free cap if we have a starting spot.
