I’d take Hunt back for half price as a hooker or a back up six depending on what’s going on with Milford. Imagine having two halves that show up every week and can tackle. Would be wild. I think Jesse Bromwich is a must as our forward leader, Guerra as a fill in for a year until someone is available, Opacic just to cover that centre spot, chase the hell out of Brett Morris or Alex Johnston if possible. We have to spend the money for next season and a few of them would be handy for at least a year.

Other than this I can’t see many options available at the moment. But we all know how rugby league contracts work.

$600K for a back-up six? Dunno about that lol.

If Milford gets moved on, I wouldn't hate the idea of a Hunt & Dearden halves combo. But like.. is that objectively better than a Milford & Dearden halves combination? I'd say no personally. Only time we saw that combo this year was when Milf had his hammy fucked up. I'd like to at least start 2021 with the Milford & Dearden combination to see what it's capable of with a full off-season & pre-season working together (with Walters hopefully.. :P)

Hunt as our starting hooker would be good, but that would require him acknowledging that he's a hooker. He's still adamant he's a halfback, which is a problem.

Meaning Hunt could move into six and Turpin off the bench to cover Milford if he goes down injured or leaves entirely. And yes, someone who shows up every week and puts in effort would overall be a better option than Milford who shows up once a month. Granted, milfs better when he’s on but that’s very rare.

Yeah it would be better than Milford-Dearden, as we’d have about $500-600k to spend come the end of 2021 after Milford gets a job in quality control at Maccas.

That's under the assumption that the Dragons are paying $600K of Hunt's wage for the remainder of his contract (3 more years, including a PO in 2023), which seems unlikely at best. I'd say the Dragons would only be willing to front that much of his salary for 2021, not the remainder of the contract. Surely they aren't that desperate to get rid of him.

As the buyer we have bargaining power, so however unlikely, we don’t have to pursue it if it doesn’t suit us.

Why is it unlikely? They have McInnes who is 26 and is an 80 minute hooker and their captain and they clearly don't want hunt in the halves. So they either pay 1.2M and have to play McInnes at lock, or they just cut their losses, save 600k and spend that on a real lock instead.

I think it's totally believable, I can't see the club taking Hunt's full salary even for a single year, no club would so the only way the Dragons can make the best of their situation at all is to basically sell him at half price and cover the other half and just accept they fucked up over paying.

if the rumours are true the dragons are interested in Offa. Now if they cover $600k of Hunt for us and then sign Offa on his 500k, they are essentially paying Joe $1.1m 😂😂

There's no way on earth that 3 years / $600K for literally nothing except an extra roster spot (for which you obviously have to pay someone to replace him) is objectively more valuable to your side than 3 years / $1.2M for Hunt.

Even if you replace Hunt with a minimum wage contract, you're only pocketing $485K (min wage = $115K in 2021) per year.

Who are you going to find for $485-600K that's going to provide more value to you than Hunt? That money doesn't buy you shit in the current era. That's how much guys like Joe Ofahengaue, Adam Doueihi, Josh Jackson, Jarrod Wallace, etc are paid. Unless the Dragons manage to pay below market value for a star player, that's never going to be worth it.

Honestly, Hunt in any position other than Dummy Half shouldn't be in the conversation.

At $600k he would be a steal and even if that number rose over the next three years to $800k and then $900k or so it still wouldn't be too bad for an 80 minute Dummy Half who is not very far of being one of the best in the position in the game despite barely even playing there and never having had a full preseason in the role.

Cam Smith, Cook and McCinnes would all cost a fair bit more than that and even Harry Grant, Brandon Smith and Koroisau would probably cost at least around the same or perhaps even more as well.

ive heard that De Belin has a contract on the table for him at Saints should be be aquiited during his trial later this year.

So, if that came to pass, then McInnes would move out of lock and go back to dummy half.

This is where the story about Hunt leaving is coming from i suppose? So, dunno what hapens if De Belin is found guilty...does Hunt stay at Saints in that case?

Also, i think this could be wrong, but Hunt has a PO for 2023. Do we really want to go there...?

Plus, he is 30 years old, i get the experience angle, but as a part of our spine at 9, by the time Dearden and whoever our next fullback will be (assume internal appointment, Isaako, Niu or Herbie even) hitting their 100th NRL game and become established spine players for us then if Turps isnt ready we then need to find another hooker.

Hunt isnt on the same timeline as the other guys we are trying to build as a spine.....so food for thought...

Maybe his best attribute will be showing the grass isnt always greener on the other side to our young brigade..?

$485-600k would land your SBW with much gold leftover, apparently.

very long shot.....
Yeah removed it , was an interview with him saying he spoke to Ricky about situation with his ageing parents. You never know these days.
