It just depends on how much of the million comes out of our cap. For mine Boyd is the best fullback in the game at the moment. There are others who may be stronger in some elements but Boyd is the best when you take every aspect of his role into account. Bloody reliable too, you never have to wonder whether he'll turn up unlike some other big name fullbacks.

I'd definitely take Moylan, Tedesco and RTS over Boyd. Considering he is likely earning more than any of them, and is like 5 years older than the next oldest, it does worry me. I don't think he has ever broken a tackle in a 1 on 1 situation. He is safe at the back and has a good passing game sure, and is relatively consistent. But in terms of defence and also 'match winning ability' he just doesn't come close. I think he is good, but saying he is the best is a bit ridiculous. Imagine Tedesco playing with good outside backs and a decent forward pack. Would be insane. I used to think Moylan was overrated but I was really impressed with him last year. If he can build on that he could be the best ball playing fullback since Karmichael Hunt (Slater gets the wrap for ball playing but Karmichael had a more complete game with grubbers and very good passing imo, slater definitely more dangerous with the ball though).

I get your point and I don't want to pay Boyd a million IF it is ALL under the cap, but 6-700 thousand under the cap and the rest TPA, then for sure!

Also, Tedesco would be on huge money, as is RTS and no doubt Moylan too. These are all rep players don't forget.

Do you even watch games? Its a serious question because his defence at the back is top notch for a fullback, and he has put on quite a few match winning tries. Just because he isn't diving over the line doesn't mean he isn't the one orchestrating it. And they are all earning comparable money to Boyd.

Boyd at the moment is the most complete, reliable fullback in the game and by a long way. There are more spectacular ones, Tedesco springs to mind, but he isnt at Boyds level of all round play yet.

I wouldn't mind Boyd being a bit selfish from time to time and just try to pin the ears back. I'd love for him to take on the defence himself, almost as a surprise tactic. He's done it a few times in the last two years with good success, just not often enough. Since the defence sort of just assumes Boyd will pass it to his outside players, a little dummy and run can be a nice change up.

I would rather 700k over 4 years.

I think that is closer to the mark TBH. I'd be happy with $800k a year. He has earned it that is for sure.

What is the basis for thinking he's not worth a million a season? What players are you basing it on?

Valuing different positions is difficult. Imagine having the two best frontrowers in the game, what that would be worth? Best 5/8 or half ? Having a great fullback is important but what about a hooker like Cam Smith ? I love Boydy at the back, strength in a needed place but if he was too expensive, just took up too much cap money I'd have to reluctantly let him go in my ( fantasy world )team.

If we can afford to pay him a million a season then yes but a club like the Broncos has always run a balanced budget. The idiot run clubs have always had skewed payments and invariably pay the price especially within the playing group with disenfranchised players and quite often when it comes time to add up the total cost.

I can't say what a players worth but I know for team integrity you have to spread the love.

Knowing what he is worth is difficult until we know what the new cap will be.

If it is 7 million then 1 million a season for Boyd is a bit high .... but in a 10 million cap, I would easily pay Boyd 1 million a season.

Exactly this there is no point talking about whether a player is worth $1m without knowing the cap... We're heading into unchartered territory when it comes to contracts from now on and $1m a season may be a relative drop in the ocean if the cap rises high enough.

I dare say the Broncos aren't stupid enough to overpay a guy that has already said he doesn't want to go anywhere and it appears genuine. We've formed many a strong team on the back of loyalty and not paying overs. I don't think they're about to blow the bank without knowing what their limit is

I'd pay him a million in both scenarios.

My theory is you can get him cheaper mostly but I also don't think it's worth it. If Boyd is $1 million and Milford is $1 million that's a lot of cap space gone.
