Are the Dolphins 100% dead set on the Redcliffe location? Because I think it's the perfect opportunity to lay claim to the entire east coast of Queensland, kicking the Storm to the curb that is Melbourne and taking over the Sunny Coast and the Moreton Bay region, including a lot of Brisbane's Northside. The East Coast Dolphins are surely the best option.

I cant see them changing with the history they have there. They just need to work on getting these players into their systems ahead of the storm.

as i understand it, just their training base. i believe they want to claim that whole northern corridor/morton region.

they've previously stated that they will use Redcliffe the way we use Red Hill. they won't be called the "Redcliffe" Dolphins

They are doing to be playing games at Redcliffe, Suncorp and the Sunny coast stadium.

They really shouldn't get to use Suncorp. It's Broncos through and through. I know the other stadiums are small but they haven't earned the right to call it home.

Cant really see that much of an issue with it, but personally i'd like them to keep playing at Redcliffe and expand it.

think about this, if the Jets or the Firehawks win the licence, they'll likely play every home game at Lang Park instead of just the blockbusters

How do you earn the right to call a place for hire home? I’m sure the dolphins would prefer to start any possible tenure at their own home anyway. any New club will only be viable if they are doing well financially and if that means selling more tickets by playing at Lang park so be it.

personally I think it’s crazy even considering a new team in the current COVID climate. probably be another venture destined to fail.

If we have to go with this 17th team for whatever reason, I hope its the Dolphins because they have an existing fan base and will compete with Melbourne's catchment area which is wonderful, if only the NRL pushed Melbourne to develop juniors...in Melbourne.

With them using 2 other stadiums as well, I guess it's likely only going to be 4 games at each ground, not too bad. If they use the other grounds for the smaller games, and Lang Pk for games against other QLD teams it won't be too bad.

That should be a big red flag imo.. Are there any examples of sporting franchises who've been 'nomadic' and succeeded long term ?

Can't think of any, but it's not like the dolphins are some upstart outfit. They have a really good foundation and history and are financially stable. Like @john1420 said, it will probably only be the big games at suncorp.

Dolphins have said that Suncorp Stadium will be their main venue, with "some games" at Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast

I think the NRL should do this more in general given the crowds suck overall, play more games in local stadiums and keep the big ones for the big stadiums, unless of course said stadium is the home ground for said team. I actually think this MIGHT be the only thing (other than cheaper tickets) that will get fans back to the games. Smaller grounds make it look like bigger crowds in attendance and generally has a louder, better atmosphere which also makes for better TV (non-Covid times I'm referring to).

Of course I am aware this kind of thinking is way too complicated for NRL officialdom to understand.
