Of the few games that Melb had B.Smith at hooker fulltime or even in stints when resting Cam, they dont look as dangerous.
To me his our version of Berrigan who starting out was phenomenal but once the years got on, teams shut him down cause he got too one dimensional.

edit: just because he does a fantastic job in the bench/lock hybrid role does not mean one bit that he is already an oustanding stand alone hooker now and will be long term. seeing some posts word for word echoing the 'tv experts'.
OK, so not being a dick or anything..........but really?
Melbourne don't look as good when C.Smith doesn't play?
Of course they don't but that doesn't mean B.Smith isn't a high quality number 9

On that, how does the "five-eighth" name work?
Didn't it originate as it was the fraction between the three quarters and the half? 1/2<<5/8<<3/4

Agree with your sentiment though, it's pedantic to be worrying about the names of the position just because the function of the position has changed over time.

I think the term hooker and dummy half are pretty interchangeable now.

Yeah but what's in a name? How many back-rowers actually pack in to the back row? Or locks lock the scrum? Do we call them edge forwards and middle forwards? What's a "half back", half way between the forwards and the back? Let's just call them the "organiser" and the 6 the "ball player". The centres aren't in the centre, they're just between the edge and the winger, so are they an inside back and the wing an outside back?

On that, how does the "five-eighth" name work? Starting in the middle, Hooker=1/8, Prop=2/8, Back-row=3/8, Halfback=4/8 (Half), 5/8=5/8, Centre=6/8, Winger=7/8, Fullback=8/8? Poor lock. But let's run with that. Every position is an eighth-fraction (except the lock, which we'll just call the Carrigan), and we'll have just one of each 1/8, 4/8, 5/8 and 8/8 and a left and right 2/8, 3/8, 6/8, 7/8.

For the bench, they'll be a "B" (bench) followed by the fraction. So the #11 we'll refer to as the L3/8, and his/her replacement will be the BL3/8. Unless it's forced through injury, and they're made to play out of position, so "S" Substitute comes in to play, so a player like Glenn who can be an L3/8 or a BL3/8 but also available as an SL3/8 or even a "B" lock so a Barrigan?

Yeah that's easy. We'll do that. Hooker is a stupid name. Anyways, who's up for that Brandon Smith guy, we really need a good 1/8, B1/8, Carrigan, Barrigan, or combination thereof.
I find you a bit hard to read Morkel, I haven't made you a bit testy with my post have I, wouldn't mean to make you testy dude, one thing that is clear though, you are on top of your fractions, being a numbers man myself I greatly respect that in a person, and as for Brandon Smith, if I still had my business I would assist in a third party deal and get my solicitor to set up two (2) contracts just like Cameron did.

Im no expert😳 but possibly hasnt been a hooker in the game since they started feeding the ball out the back god knows how many years back now.....been plenty of games this year where theres only been 4 or 5 man scrums with storm main offender....play on!!!
Only hookers around now are working around places like Fortitude Valley

The dude is 37.. and playing in an elite system, hard to see him rolling out for the Titans or Broncs next year, unless in it's a highly paid consulting role.. good work if you can get it :)

Storm are ahead of the curve as usual, no doubt they are locking Grant in long term and preparing to ship off the other Smith to balance that.

Done for good in Melbourne. This suggests no coaching role either and rather stern comment. Sounds to me it is directed at Smith other than general public commentary. Wonder if he’s shit the bed there by not making a timely decision.

they have plenty of time to lock Grant in ... he is under contract until the end of 2022 and an option for 2023

Gerry Ryan only owns 20% of the Storm ... the majority shareholder Matt Tripp (50%) is planning to travel to QLD to have a chat with Smith about a potential future role with the Storm if he retires

Really. Than perhaps his comment was directed to Tripp. Odd thing for theStorm not to be on the same page.

I think the comment was that he is done playing for the Storm (playing only), not that he is done with the storm in every capacity.

"He said Smith was moving to Queensland and was at least done playing at the Storm.

“Cameron hasn’t come out and said to us. I think he’s holding the meeting at bay,” Ryan said on SEN Track on Wednesday."

I think you are referring to a fact. An opinion is just that. Not necessarily correct. Most would identify that and be open to suggestion. As for insulting, give up on the name-calling.
Where did I do any name calling? I'm not ruling it out, but I don't recall calling anybody names in here.

Yes...certainly not a bad idea to sign players up well before they come off contract if they are elite.

The spoon has got a option for next year and has taken it

This cracked me up. Could just imagine it rocking up to Red Hill being taken into White's office and White saying, 'Welcome to the club, so happy to have you on board. Here is your contract with of course at least one option for next year but many more if you like.'
