Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

It still amazes me Souths are willing to let Reynolds go to the market, he's slotted 2 40m+ field goals in consecutive weeks

I don't think they understand how hard it is to find a halfback of his quality and consistency
It's not that they don't want him, they've made that abundantly clear. They just don't know if they want him for three more years.

I can sort of see their point, Reynolds definitely comes with risks and we'd be naive not to fully recognise those same risks too, but I think in our case the level of desperation is just a lot higher and therefor our appetite to entertain that risk is probably greater.

Souths, with recent success and a stacked roster are probably less keen to take on those risks and they have that luxury because of where they are as a club right now.

I reckon the focus should be on signing Grant ASAP. I would hate to sign a busted up half back for a lazy mill when we could have used that money to get Harry. If Drearden goes then give the job to a Qcup half from Wynnum or Norse or redders to partner Crofty. Even Kevin’s son would be serviceable for a while being a plodder kicking to corners and putting up a bomb on the last. The hooker is the most important position on the field these days. Let’s reward it accordingly. Just look at cookie at souths. When he fires the team wins. Look at the impact grant made when he came on against a desperate roosters last week. Do it Kevin but in secret.

My thoughts on the whole Dearden/recruitment situation...
I think that they were hoping to see a little more from Dearden before offering him a long term contract. But they're conscious of judging him to harshly given the whole teams poor start to the year (read as bullshit draw).

I would suggest they're holding out as long as possible before offering him a contract in the hope the teams form turns and he gets a chance to perform. Its most likely been communicated to him that we will offer him a contract, the specifics of it will be decided over the next two weeks based off his performances.

He's played 20+games now so they would be expecting him to start to show some improvement.

I would imagine the plan is get Reynolds/any top line halfback and if Dearden performs this next 2 weeks sign him as Reynolds preferred partner remembering we also have croft as a back up if anything happens. Throw in the upgrade to staggs contract and the ditching completely of milf, retiring of glenn and the bird/offa/macca contract coming off our books probably then leaves us the ability to sign one more mid/high range player.

Possibly a Kurt Capewell or if one comes available a decent 1/9.

Sure, we'll snatch him out from under the Storm. We're so good at doing that.

Surely, surely after nearly two decades of being blueballed by an elite Queensland Dummy Half from Melbourne, surely no one wants to see us go around again on the next one?

You could likely get Capewell and Kurt Mann with the change. Both play positions that we struggle for depth in and would be really solid, proven options that won't overly break the bank.

There is zero chance we are signing Harry Grant off the Melbourne Storm.

It's a bit perplexing for the club at the moment, sure we've signed big names in the past but it wasn't like we really needed that big name signing to perform otherwise we'd be in contention for a wooden spoon but right now the signings they make (or don't make) this season are going to be incredibly important for the club's success moving forward.

Which is why I think whoever made the decision to not offer Dearden a contract yet with other clubs circling, it's a big big call. No he hasn't shown us signs of being an elite halfback but you never know what potential he has, everyone who talks about him tells you how good he is at training and all that.

I hope he comes out and kills it, Brisbane offer him that contract and we can move forward knowing where we are, you can tell just by the way he talks he wants to be a Bronco but right now, he needs to show the fans what he can bring to the club. The fans need to see it in a game, not at training.

Wouldn't mind if Su'a comes back but Dobbo is adding a bit of sensationalism as usual. If Su'a stayed with us 2 years ago for "fruit" and played like he has at Souths including the Origin callup we would have to upgrade him to keep him anyway so its not like he would not have got an increase.

Same with Moses, shock horror 26 year old halfback with 150+ games costs more than 22 year old halfback with 70 games...
i have also heard that Su'a was keen to come back to brisbane

there is a difference between not offering a contract and not talking to his management about figures/terms etc.

I doubt there is ever an official contract offered until all the terms have been agreed to. lot of trouble to go to if they just have to either change it later or it is rejected all together

That's a good point actually, the media go on about not offering a contract, if Brisbane weren't even talking to his management he probably would've taken whatever the Cows offered

All this talk about game controlling halves .
DCE is one of the best and it meant nothing until he got TomT back.
With a real talent like that the rest of the side lifts.
It won't matter who we put at 7 until we get an elite player at 1.
We had 3 players on elite money until recently and none of them were players that made the rest better .
Isaako will never be that guy

There is also talk of a swap, Reynolds to Parra, Moses to the Rabbits.

But you wouldn't think the Rabbits could afford Moses.
Souths have cap issues thats why they can only offer Reynolds 12 months so no way they can do a swap unless they release players
Gagai possibly and maybe Sua

Look, i reckon ill make this as plain as possible...

The best player right now who is even rmeotely available across the league is Adams Reynolds.

The difference between him and the 2nd best available half available is daylight...

Go all in, pay overs, give him the best 3rd party deals in the clubs history...

He doesnt want to move his family from Sydney.....money fucking talks....

Ever single club needs a game controlling half who is also a career 80% kicker. He alone would push us into the top 8 every season he is here simply because no other club has him.

And if we miss out, get DD to pull all his magical strings to bring Munster here on the same coin we should be offering Reynolds.

Im sick to fucking death of being the leagues pounded puppy. Start throwing our considerable money penis out of our pants and show it to the league.

GI retired on medical grounds.......HE IS STILL PLAYING...!!!!

If Souths can play the league for the dumb ***** they are....then lets do it ourselves....

Inglis was not medically retired. His injuries were not considered career ending but he “could no longer perform to his own standards”.

GI gave up remaining value of playing contract. His salary for new off-field role was included in Rabbitohs' cap

What is this...inserting truth into my rant.....my God man, whats overcome you..!

Moses at 900k is a massive no no from me.
Reynolds for 800-850k and 2yrs however is a big yes in my books.
Theget Dearden at 300-400k to play next to him and take over once Reynolds leaves.
In the meantime any top tier 9 or 1 would have to be a massive target.
Manu at 1 would also be worth enquiring about.
And if all the above fails, chuck 600k to get walker back.

I would be using that exact same scenario to convince players to stay for unders.

"You can be one of the best in your position but if we pay you a fortune, you'll suffer by having poorer team-mates. We're recruiting for long term success, not to pay mercinaries, we hope you'll be part of that".

It's exactly like buying a house. You'd be in negotiations the whole time but you really don't submit an actual contracted offer until the deal is basically just a rubber stamping. The media use this line all the time about a player not being offer a contract and most of the time it's just semantics rubbish.

After buying plenty of houses, I can tell you the paperwork comes early to show genuine interest, and 10 - 15 figures can be crossed out and initialled before it gets over the line.

But an NRL contract has heaps of clauses and factors beyond the dollar figure. Like player options for Broncos players, behavior clauses for Raiders players, and negotiated golf days for Roosters players.
