The Karmichael Hunt interview with Matty John’s is good. I want Karmichael in the team. He loves the broncos and wants to come back and that passion would be good for our team

He's a classy man, you can tell just by the interview. He actually instigated the discussion about his legal issues which I don't think I've ever seen before

We'd take him just for his experience I reckon

That bloke talks out his arse.
So regardless, what part do you disagree with pray tell. His comment about our retention / recruitment is a valid one.
He might be talk out of his arse but he’s close to being spot on - on this occasion anyway.

Good recruitment retention is when you replace Smith/ Cronk/ Slater with Grant/ Munster/ Pap and basically without a peep of what your paying them or there desire to leave for or showing interest in another club.

I have owned by own business for many years and if I can give one tip for being successful it’s the need to keep reinventing your self. Firstly to keep up with your competition and ultimately to move in front of them.

White and company have been resting on their laurels for far too long. And why wouldn’t they - great supporter base - 40k turning up to home games- sponsors knocking the door down to be a part - shareholders enjoying a profit.

But that’s off the field. On the field is another story. Clearly our R/R fas been found wanting resulting in our inability to match it with our competitors. Our up and comers leaving or showing interest in joining those competitors who are returning that interest with upgraded contracts accordingly.

Not winning games naturally has a detrimental effect on all things good and even given it was a Thursday nite, last game v the completion leaders drew a crowd of only 20k. Not that long ago it would be double.

Have no doubt Kevin Walters is the man to reinvigorate our culture even though his coaching ability is largely yet to shine through - definitely a work in progress but last game showed a lot of promise.
Lot resting on Dave Donaghy to be the man to reinvent us to bring us up to scratch particularly in that R/R department.

If Kevin and the boys can come up with a few wins on the trot and Dave can get the whip cracking I can see the worm turning.

We can all then get back to some positive vibes and above all start slinging some mud back the other way.

I've got this feeling our obsession with not losing Staggs is going to cost us a halfback.
I don’t even want the guy any more. His off field drama, his injury, and dragging out of contract negotiations - none of it is worth the reported money. Even if we win his signature it’s setting up a terrible precedent regarding the club and contracts. He’s just a centre, he isn’t the next Thurston or Tedesco.

I can only speak for myself but daily I am checking the foxsports website hoping for that elusive headline "Kotoni re-signs", or someone re-signs, I'll take anything at this point. It'd be devastating if Dearden went to the Cows and went on to be a superstar, I think that's what most of us are afraid of despite the fact we haven't seen it from him yet.

It's a frustrating time to be a Bronco fan

I’d like to see we re-signed Coates and Dearden on reasonable deals.

I actually hope Katoni does take a better offer because it may save us from ourselves. Paying that amount for a centre who can’t defend and has shown no desire to be at the club is a recipe for disaster.

You could realistically bring in Reynolds, Capewell, and Gagai by saving money on Milford, Staggs, and Glenn.

Anyone see on 360 last night, they were talking about Sam Walker? Hooper went on to say no matter how much $ any other club throws at him, he won't be leaving the roosters.
It's amazing that that's all there is to it. Expect to hear nothing else except for Walker signing a 3 or 4yr deal for 400k.
If that was any Bronco, he would be 'better suited elsewhere' and the money would be any imaginable figure.
It almost feels like there is some bro code that the media do not talk about the Roosters off-contract players. I wouldn't have even known that Angus Crichton was even off contract, until he had re-signed for unders to stay at the Rorters. Add to that Radley getting off the other night at the judiciary. It makes it pretty hard to compete against these types of clubs..

If someone threw 1 mill a year at Sam Walker, he would be foolish to not take it. I don't think that would be good for his development at all but he'd still take it, probably be an Anthony Milford type scenario in the end (great young talent who gets lazy due to a lack of motivation).

It wouldn't shock me if a club did have a bit of a look, Newcastle threw the bank at Ponga and he probably played as many games as Sam Walker has.

I'd be fine with throwing 600k at Walker, which was the same $ that the Knights paid for Ponga.
But, what the Rorters want, the rorters will get.

I won’t deny that roosters cap has a bad stench but that aside, that’s the benefit of success - we used to be in the same position. We would never lose a player we wanted to keep and they’d stay for unders.

Bondi is easily the most described location for a young rich man, the roosters are constant premiership threats, they don’t like huge pressure on their young guys, and have great systems to develop in. If you were Walker would you rather play with Teddy, Keary, the Morris Twins, Manu, etc, be coached by Robinson, train with Mini and SBW, and be a consistent top 4 team with a good chance of winning a prem or 2 in your next contract. What’s that worth to a player when the alternative is to go to a perennial basket case like the tigers, or have a desperate club like the broncos or cowboys pin all their hopes that you’ll save there team.

Once you’re on 4-500k a year, is another 200k going to make you that match happier? Especially if your losing, being blamed for it, not developing, missing rep opportunities, and burning out after a couple seasons.

It’s the issue for unsuccessful teams, they have to overpay players based on potential and pray that it pays off and makes them successful enough to attract other players for cheap. Those on top generally stay there because being an attractive club makes your cap go further, before the rigged golf games.

Not to mention clubs like the roosters and Melbourne probably run all parts of their club well and have a lot to offer players in their personal life (again, not including dodgey payments).

We used to say the same thing when players stayed in Brisbane, you know , back when we could win a game.
What irks is the media called BS when it was us , now it's legit.
It def is legit. Where would you rather be if you wanted to be a winner.
I know what I would do if I was Sam.
I'd take unders and hang with the well coached winners and multi millionaire businessmen who could point you in the right direction and make 10 times what I could make onfield.
Not to mention hanging around Bondi with a profile like that.
The kid will need 2 dicks

Agree with this - you are spot on. Wasn't all that long ago we were showing the down trodden how to get out of a fix. Now we are sitting down the bottom of the ladder with them.
It’s our ‘suits’ that have dropped the ball and it’s those 'chaps' who need to pick it up and run with it.

I'm probaby not as keen as some to let Staggs walk so easily. Don't get me wrong we shouldn't be held at ransom for by him and 700k is absolute top dollar you would consider paying him. Probably slightly over but with our club profile we need to pay top dollar to attract/keep big names.

I believe you need to have that gun strike type player who just does things others cant. The guy who scores that 40 meter run away try. That bloke who when you attack the opposition line some how just scores. He's really what we've been missing. If we dont sign him i dont see where our strike comes from. Even with the signing of a genuine halfback i think we still need a genuine try scorer.

I feel like if pull our offer and let him walk, over the next 3 years we bitch and moan about how he's making the big plays for another team.

Its just a shame he's done his ACL because having him fully fit the first 10 rounds of the season would have been perfect for us to assess him and get a better gauge of what he's worth. The bloke is 22 now so approaching his prime and is the closest thing we have to proven tallent at the moment (apart from Hass).

There’s no doubting his ability but I’m sure the titans were just as gutted when Roberts left them; the Sharks and Bird, etc. Life goes on.

The Roosters handled the Mitchell drama perfectly. Offered a reasonable deal, put a date on it, and withdrew it when that date arrived. They then spent that money on cheaper proven winners. You could almost buy any player in the league with the amount being thrown around for Staggs.

In summary, we suck at succession planning and have done so basically since 2006. We just have got progressively worse at it.
