I just can't see us actually signing Reynolds. He is exactly what we need but is also exactly what Cronulla need so I can't see why he would leave Sydney when surely he can get the same offer from Cronulla.

I know the talk is that we are now the favourites but I just can't see us being able to land this which is a real shame because that one signing would completely change the team both in terms of play and the ability to attract other players. Signing him would have us back in the 8 next year and competing for the 4 regularly again by the year after, he is that important IMO.

I’d say if we give him a fourth year that might get us over the line as I think Cronulla are baulking at that.

I agree. Give him the fourth year. It might stuff our cap for one year at the most, but the alternative (to not have him at all) would be too great especially with a second team coming in.

If the fourth year gets it over the line and it’s 400k, you do it. Need in mind we will have Croft on possibly 500k in reserve grade next year, so it isn’t the end of the world. His leadership and experience alone on the training paddock would be worth it.

Let’s make no mistake, we are desperate and even paying overs for him is what we need to do. Getting him though will lead to more signings because players will see we have a gun playmaker and will be a top 8 side quality side instantly.

The other thing is that Cronulla is also an aging side, they are entering their rebuild phase, we are likely coming out of it. He won’t win a premiership there, he likely won’t with us either but it is a better chance of happening.

If it takes the 4th year we have to do it no question. Yes it is a risk but it isn't really that big of a risk. Best case scenario he is still playing well in the 4th year, worst case he is not playing well but is there to mentor the halves coming through and transitions into coaching.

I am still amazed we offered him a 3 year deal. There is 0 chance we can offer him to another club for next season. It's either England or bricklaying for young Crofty...

I wonder if there may be a chance to offload Croft to the Raiders as a bandaid solution for them?

By all reports George Williams is home sick and his head is elsewhere. If the raiders continue to slide and the internal rift between them is true he may ask for a release to return home.

Its a long shot but I'd be in the raiders ear just dropping the idea to them if shit hits the fan. Also would be talking to Rabbits about taking him from us for next year. Their young guys dont quiet seem ready and he could be a bandaid for next year beside Walker. Plant the seed in their head.

Both are unlikely but from everyone on our roster i see Crofts 500k for next year as the one we need to move on and at a time when semi experienced halkbacks are hard to come by, i think we could move him on.

We have a bit over $9M to spend and this is the best we can come up with. The rugby league community gush over how well run Melbourne and the Roasters are. We should be there with them.

I'm gonna come out and say it. I don't think Hynes is that good.

He's the prototypical Storm system player, plays his role perfectly, solid all-around skills, not excellent in any department. Take him out of that system and throw him in our rabble and I'd argue he'll look worse than Isaako has.

It's got Brodie Croft written all over it.

Hynes is the same age as Isaako, and I'd argue Isaako has much higher upside with his speed / footwork.

This is our problem. Our systems suck. We can buy every player we want but until we have systems like roosters or Melbourne we won't win anything.

Hetherington has been great in cup this year, don’t want to give him up as I can see him becoming a great bench middle for us. Paix maybe but can’t see Melbourne being keen for that.

Don't be so hasty there. If it means more cash in our cap pot I'm all for that one. Klem is a proven origin forward and with Petro in his ear I'm sure we'd see an improvement on his Newcastle form. He takes the hard carries out of Newcastle's red zone and has shown to be a damaging forward when on form. I don't think Newcastle have gotten the best out of him.
