I agree. Give him the fourth year. It might stuff our cap for one year at the most, but the alternative (to not have him at all) would be too great especially with a second team coming in.
No way. Boyd all over again. It will cost us a good player if we do that. I'd take johnson for two years.

Melbourne would turn Hetherington into a very good player
And so will the Broncos. Indeed, we are already 90% of the way in achieving that. Whats-more, we'll do it while building a better person with an eye to his future after footy. Added to this we will allow him to mature and play his footy in a environment that is to his liking. No need to leave family and friends while chasing a dream, it's all here. With the addition of Kevvie and DD the Broncos are once again open for business and we will meet (if not exceed) every young player's aspirations.

Think of the cash saved on winter wardrobes as well. I mean seriously, do you really want to train in freezing wind and wet weather 3/4 of the year?

You'd need to take SJ for a minimum of five years if you want to get two years of playing time from him. He's so injury prone he has his own specialist.

I live in Melbourne so I guess I have a different view I the pros and cons of Melbourne. I hope we do develop Hetherington. He looks a good player. I was just saying we shouldn't swap him to Melbourne who would turn him into their B Smith replacement.

I think Souths are right not to offer Reynolds a long term deal. 2 years is the right amount. Johnson is definitely injury prone. Neither option is perfect but paying a guy 800k deep into 30s in last contract year is not the right move for me.

Johnson has dramatically outperformed Reynolds try assists over the last few seasons too. He’d likely be cheaper and on a shorter deal.

In a dream world you get both.
Johnson 5-600k for 2 seasons
Reynolds 800k for 3

I think Reynolds would do great for organising the team and game management/kicking but I think he needs a player in the spine who ices the last passes - which isn’t Staggs or Isaako. It is Milford but he’s too lazy in the rest of his game.

Reynolds kicking game is the gold standard, but SJ has lead the comp in try assists recently. Perfect combo imo.

If anything the flurry of poaching from all and sundry of our youth development system proves that our development system is far superior to anything else the clubs have to offer. Apart from Panthers, who produce talent by the sheer weight of numbers they have (Up to 10,000 in their playing area) we produce more NRL ready players than anyone else.

Lately, we've taken our eyes off the ball and have lost a couple of real superstars. I'm hoping DD and Kevvie will rectify that. As soon as we are top four again kevvie and his coaching staff will be able to fully concentrate on ensuring players are more inclined to do the 1%ers. At present his inner circle are flatout getting them back to basics and eradicating the nightmare left behind by the boat burner.

I wonder if there may be a chance to offload Croft to the Raiders as a bandaid solution for them?

By all reports George Williams is home sick and his head is elsewhere. If the raiders continue to slide and the internal rift between them is true he may ask for a release to return home.

Its a long shot but I'd be in the raiders ear just dropping the idea to them if shit hits the fan. Also would be talking to Rabbits about taking him from us for next year. Their young guys dont quiet seem ready and he could be a bandaid for next year beside Walker. Plant the seed in their head.

Both are unlikely but from everyone on our roster i see Crofts 500k for next year as the one we need to move on and at a time when semi experienced halkbacks are hard to come by, i think we could move him on.
One of the Fox League staff will all of a sudden float this idea haha

Apparently Reynolds is a big fan of our pack, especially Haas.

Halfbacks like playing behind a good pack and apparently ours is more favourable. Add onto that we’re offering the same as the Sharks are offering and offering him the captaincy. If the recruitment team can’t land this then they all need to go.

Its not that stage of development that is the problem. It is turning them into into top level players. We haven't had a top level player since Lockyer. We have a stockpile of talent at the lower levels and we got greedy trying to keep them all. We had no strategy of which ones to keep and develop and we lost the best ones except Haas. Melbourne pick less young players back them and develop them to be better I.e Munster, Pappy, Grant, Olam, Hughes, Vunivalu.

They need to go now. I can't believe we are expecting them to do any better than they have over the past 5 years.

I disagree. With a champion half like Reynolds (or SJ) all of a sudden Herbie goes from good to great. Players like Riki get better ball as they run their lines and mature into elite backrowers. All the small things like each player having to do less work as the half's kicking game turns momentum allow them all to play better. Once our spine is sorted many of our players will look every bit as good as what the Storm are producing.

Of course a massive advantage the Storm have is their wrestling technique which allows players to get set in defence. I have said (and will keep saying) we will never match them in this department until such times as we have our own dojo in Brisbane and we seriously work on that aspect of the game.

Another huge advantage is their system is stable and has been for years. Instead of spending time learning basic defensive drills they can move on to the finer aspects of the game. This is true for any club. Once they master the basics they can then progress to other aspects of the game. This only happens at clubs who have stable coaching systems. We've had three coaches in a little over two years. Storm have had Belly there since 2003!!

Where was this said mate?

I thought our wrestle was great the first half vs cows. Looks like they’ve been working on it. Working together to twist players on to their backs. Huge improvement.
