Wouldn't be against seeing Herbie used at 1.
Herbie
Staggs
Cobbo
Niu
Mead

Any others I'm missing?
We've got a few, no one is an obvious choice but one of them might just be it.

We dont have the money.

Probably why we are looking to move on Lodge. We need to get a bit creative with our cap and try to move on some players and bring in some better value options. He's a name i keep bringing up, but i'd like to see us bring in Grant ( and i think we would get him at a decent price ) and replace Lodge or Flegler. Maybe try to move both on and just bring in a couple of reliable workhorse props.

Get him watching tapes of papenhuyzen and tell him, "that is what we want you to do". He has the capacity/skills to play the game the same way.

It’s a bit of a delicate situation. Our forwards are all we have and with a few improvements in the spine we could finally capitalise on their good work but to afford a decent spine we need to move on our over stacked forward pack which may result in a good spine and not decent forwards to play behind - or even worse, we weaken our forward for cap space and then can’t even attract any talent in the spine.

Aaaaaand back to the off contract players we go

Lodge 800k
Milford 1m
Hynes 600k - that would have been a bargain buy had a certain CEO still been around..

I'd happily offer 350-400k for Dufty on a 2yr contract.
We still have potential for Herbie, Staggs, Isaako or Cobbo to play FB if we choose to keep recruitment in house.
Imagine if we had that Walsh bloke, it just makes it hurt that little bit more now imo.

Out of that list throw $600k-$700k at SJ for 2 years

Sharks have been baulking at SJ's asking price (apparently $800k for 2yrs), but he's pretty well the best off contract player now available and would work extremely well with Reynolds.

Sharks either have to look at matching it or paying overs just to have any sort of halfback on the books... also noting that $700k goes further in Brisbane than it does in Sydney.

Rather than just randomly chucking guys at FB give isaako some time to learn his trade at fullback. Give him time! Otherwise we will end up doing what we are doing with our halves.

And how will it help just testing people at fullback for a few games, they will have no time to settle into the role and learn it.

Just testing guys is a horrible idea. Not going to prove anything.

I really think Grant could do just as good a job as Flegler at a fraction of the cost, and i dont think he would have much less impact, if any than Lodge ( as good as lodge has been, i dont think we can carry such an expensive prop ). We still have good young front rowers in Carrigan, Haas and Bullemor. Kennedy and Asiata are solid enough, we just need some solid performers to compliment them who have a bit more experience, which is why in the past i've mentions Liu and Nicholls who are both off contract.

We have Cobbo/Mead/Oates/Isaako/Arthars that can cover wing.

Cobbo could probably be gradually brought into the fullback role.

Herbie and Staggs at centre.

All we need is a 6.......Its not red alert button yet.

Hope we have a Plan B with Hynes going to the Sharks.

Liked the look of Watson last week at 5/8.

Given his utility value wouldn't be the worst option for the right price.

Why not trial Niu at fullback - he is literally a Dufty clone in terms of size and height.

He is already here.

He is a lot cheaper.

We arent playing for anything this year.

Duftys no better in defense than the current incumbant here.

Focus on a hooker option for 2022....

Niu has been playing fullback, in Q Cup, and he’s been appalling. I legitimately think he may never see first grade again.
