Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

If the Dogs could land Dufty and SJ, they'd have a pretty deadly backline next year.

1. Dufty
2. Cotric
3. Hopoate
4. Allan
5. Addo-Carr
6. Burton
7. Johnson

It is a heck of a lot better than they are currently trotting out.
And zero forwards...

My only argument to this is that we still scored 24 points. That should be enough to win if you have any semblance of defensive effort. Dufty is a horrible defender too. He’s done the exact thing we’re dropping Isaako for quite a few times.

Signing Dufty would mean that instead of defending 24 points efforts to victory, we are looking to score 54 points to win 54-50.
I think you might be overstating the defensive liability of Dufty, the Dragons haven't conceded 50 with Dufty in the side since 2018, and that was against the Storm.

To me Dufty is a no brainer. He would be cheap, its not like we would be tying up 700+k in a sink or swim Milford/Bird type deal.

Even if Dufty was a total bust, at 3-400k per year for 2 years he wouldn't even crack the top 20 worst signings.

I really think Johnson and Dufty should be our priorities.
As much as Turpin offers very little with a good 1,6,7 Turpin will just have a simple role.
If we have money afterwards we should then maybe look at Hodgson, Sua, Gagai, Capewell (if need be)

Hodgson is the best spine player on the market, and he could come cheaply given the issues in Canberra - I'd take him to start at hooker, then move to a ball-playing 13 role to bring Turpin / Paix on at dummy half... Similar to McInnes and Brandon Smith playing interchangably between 9 and 13.
With due respect, i think we already have a ball playing lock within the roster now.

Health permitting, we should really stick with Asiata at 13 for this season.

Check out the variance he gives us in terms of ball playing 1 off the ruck, providing a point of difference to our 2 preferred halfs (Gamble & Kelly).

Digs into the line , one thats not really set correctly, onto Flegler who takes advantage of space as Hughes jams up on Kelly on the outside...

The offlaods dropped (of course) but theres merit in running this play more.

Fleglers still arguably a bench forward right now, but he gives us glimpses of whats to come given time. He looks like a classic late bloomer...

Fact is, the guys here now, unlike the others we are targeting. Give him time in the side to gell and build some combos with his forwards.

Hodgo comes as a hooker...keep him there i say...

I completely agree, but we seem intent on not giving Asiata the opportunity to play in this role (for some unknown reason).
Given the opportunities he's received this year even when fit and the fact he's on a one year contract (I believe), I'm not confident we see him around next year, but I would like him to stay and be used properly.

To be fair, we are already doing exactly that.

That’s my point. Either we lean into it and sign Dufty and hope we can score 40+ points per game, or we can focus on signings that will improve our defence.

I’d be happy enough with him at that price and length. Not sure if he’d accept that offer though.

I’m of the opinion that basically any spine player other than who we currently have is worth a shot.

I've looked through every team list. I can't see another team taking Dufty, except maybe the Dogs but I'm pretty sure the word is JAC will play fullback. No other NRL team has a fullback spot option. We're pretty much the only club without a good fullback next year.

I guess another team could sign him as a super sub thing but I can't see it happening. I can see his manager contacting us and trying to make a deal.
