Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

I've read on the Dragons forum the reason Matt Dufty has been told to move on is that Dufty's management want $600,000 a year and the Dragons are saying no. The stalemate has gone on for a while and the Dragons have brought it ahead saying he won't be returning next year.

That's why people on this forum keep murmuring 'Dufty will come cheap'. May not know what they are talking about. I actually do think Dufty could get a massive offer from English Superleague. If Blake Austin was tearing it up over there just imagine what Dufty could do.

Dufty has alot of talent though. He should be playing NRL because he certainly is talented enough to make an impact in games.

Off the first book*
Cameron ‘I don’t care what the records books say, we are the premiers’ Smith has real trouble comprehending why this is bad.

Imagine getting him for 100k cheaper a year then what Hynes has reportedly signed for.

I would happily do it at 200k less. 100k less, nope. He isn't worth 500k in my opinion.

I just read the post above, what’s your thoughts on what he’s worth? Fb is such a crucial position, exhibit A: last night

Donuts is allegedly talking to Dufty's manager Clinton Schifcofske, in the wake of him being the second fullback in two weeks to walk right through the centre of our forward pack. The 25-year old allegedly is being sniffed by four clubs, including one in the Super League. None of which is the Dragons, despite being petitioned by more than 3000 of their fans. He's rumoured to be on $400k this season. Too much says Anthony Griffin.

Clint said:

“The Broncos are certainly an option for him, he’s a free agent and he is looking at all his options. We have spoken about Brisbane being a club that may need a fullback so that presents an opportunity for him. There’s no rush. He is a bit disappointed but he will back himself on the open market ... a few clubs have expressed interest.”

“Moving to Queensland wouldn’t be an issue for Matt. Matt and his partner have bought a place in Wollongong but if they had to move, that’s not a problem. It’s a credit to Matt how he has handled this period. He has matured a lot as a person and it speaks volumes for his character that he would come out and play the way he did against the Broncos and not kick cans. I couldn’t be happier with Matt’s attitude responding to this.”

Former jockey Billy Slater says Dufty would feel right at home at Red Hill:

“He’s been told he’s not going to be at the Dragons, which I think is quite strange because I thought you only replace someone if you have someone better. One thing I do know is Matt Dufty does have a future in this game and there will be a number of clubs looking around and seeing if Matt Dufty fits in ... I noticed Darren Lockyer asking some communication questions and writing things down.

"I think he would fit nicely up there at Brisbane. They’ve got Adam Reynolds going up there, I think Albert Kelly is playing some nice football and you see some of their quality coming through — TC Robati, he’s a player and Selwyn Cobbo on the wing."

“They’ve got some talent up there. If you put the likes of Dufty that are using the football the way he is, he’s certainly going to be a great addition for the Broncos if he goes that way.”

some info from Badel on Dufty and Badel/Craddock on Capewell.
  • Dufty is on 400k at the Dragons this year and would require a similar salart to come to the Broncos
  • DD has contacted Dufty's manager
  • more than 3000 Dragons fans have signed a petition asking the Dragons to KEEP Dufty
  • Dufty has interest from 4 clubs, 1 from the SL
  • Cowboys and Broncos are interested in Capewell
  • Cowboys have made Capewell a two year offer (didn't say how much)

Slater on Dufty:

Capewell's agent Clinton Schifcofske says:

“Kurt hasn’t finalised his future yet, the Cowboys and Broncos are still very much in the picture,” said his manager Clinton Schifcofske.

“It looked like Kurt was going to stay at the Panthers but Penrith’s position has changed a little bit, so we’ll see where he ends up.

“The Cowboys have tabled an offer and they have been great in discussions. Kurt has been really impressed with Todd Payten (Cowboys coach) and Micheal Luck (head of football), they’ve conducted themselves really well so North Queensland are right in the mix.

“A second Brisbane team is also an option, but that could be a timing thing for Kurt depending on the length of his next deal.”

Capewell himself says:

“My manager is doing most of that (contract negotiations) for me. I am concentrating on trying to win games with Penrith,” he said as he prepares for his fourth Origin match.

“We have a pretty good winning streak at the moment. I have not focused on that stuff too much.

“I am not in a massive rush to get anything done. I just want to get through this Origin period and keep playing good footy.’”

“It’s awesome being at Penrith,” he said. “No-one misses a beat. Everyone is really switched on and trains well.

“It is just great to be a part of a winning club.”

This might test us out.

I’d like Capewell for sure. Is it weird but he looks like a cowboys player. I don’t even know what that means but that’s how I feel.

Maybe because he's a similar player and style to a Gavin Cooper? Cooper played second row and played centre earlier in his career.

Hook not impressed by Dufty's MOM performance against the Broncos because, after all, it was only the Broncos.

"Senior Dragons source:"

"He was great in attack but let's be honest, it was like an under 20s game. Matt is a good kid and he is dynamic when the opposition don't want to tackle him as was the case last night. But the bottom line is that his defence just isn't up to the standard you want if you are trying to win a premiership. The fact that no other clubs have made him an offer shows that we are not alone in that thinking."
