He currently has zero offers and the majority of teams have their fullback position locked up. Dufty isn't known for being able to play wing or centre so its pretty much fullback or bench utility. If someone is looking at him as a utility then it is hardly going to be a large contract.I’d be happy enough with him at that price and length. Not sure if he’d accept that offer though.
I’m of the opinion that basically any spine player other than who we currently have is worth a shot.
Like @Kimlo mentioned, which club is going to throw big fullback money at a non representative player who is not wanted by their current club and has no suitors?
I'm sure he would jump at a 2 year 400k contract which is 800k in the bank (pre tax) vs. worrying if you have a spot next year.
I'm not saying Dufty is an elite talent and doesn't have shortcomings but i believe he is better than what we currently have to offer internally at fullback, at least for the next 2 years. I'd hate for Cobbo to be thrown there too early and **** his development up. Let him play wing and ditch Dufty in 2024 when Cobbo is ready.
