Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Appears Gus is enjoying our plight. Doesn’t seem all that long ago we were showing him our systems so he could improve Penrith. Lot of water under the bridge since then though.

Good guy, Gus. Keep selling him for us.

Must feel he owes us for what happened with Walsh.

Here's Dobbo this morning saying Gagai thinks he is coming back to Red Hill next season, and Walters is very confident of signing both him and Capewell. I'd say Dobbo will be right on both counts, but whether Kevvie himself is right is up for discussion:

Does Kevvie believe we will sign them? If so, they're definitely not coming.

I must be watching a different Oates because there is more to being a winger then just scoring tries.....would he not be found out out on his wing leaving gapping holes, will he not catch the ball from bombs opposition teams specifically target him for because they know he couldn't catch a cold? Oates is a great example of a player so reliant on scoring tries that people ignore the glaring issues elsewhere then when the tries dry up your left with the truth. Renouf wasn't the strongest defender out there but he worked his ass off not to be a liability.

Oates' best attribute was never scoring tries, it was the metres he gained on exit sets. He would routinely make 15 metres and put us on the front foot, or even better draw a penalty as teams tried to illegally halt his momentum. Being able to score insane tries was just a bonus.

IMO it's those hard metres that we desperately need right now, as our field position and momentum is non-existent. However if he is dropping balls, he is undoing all the work from his runs. I don't think he's been as error-prone as he's been made out to be, nor is he any worse than Coates in terms of coming off his wing in defence (remember, in the Game That Shall Not Be Named he was compensating for a Jack Reed with a completely fucked shoulder), but he is nowhere near as good as he was 5 years ago.

What's with Gus dropping the S from the team names. Stupid Gu.
It's an affection he always does on Twitter. Doesn't work.

About time he got banned from Australia:

What I can't work out is why would we sign both Gagai and Brenko Lee? It isn't a knock on Lee, but from a structure and balance perspective, it seems weird that we went and got him.

2. Farnworth.
3. Staggs.
4. Gagai.
5. Cobbo.

I know Staggs is most likely going to be at 5/8th. However Staggs and Gagai as a centre combination would allow you to simplify the structures and use the same plays on both edges for mine. (And looks pretty good on paper too)

And I'd love to have those metres as well, but when you can't catch the ball under the high ball and teams have grown to target you because of this or make simple errors your really putting your team under pressure defensively and we already have enough issues with ball handling especially in our own half without increasing them. I'm with you comparing him to Coates but then that isn't a really strong argument for his inclusion either, neither should be there frankly.

Only reason we'll sign Gagai is for one of a few reasons -

A) We're signing him to play Fullback
B) Staggs is 100% the Five-Eighth for next year
C) Farnworth is shifting to Fullback or Wing

Could be one, if not multiple of these scenarios. I still believe Nikorima will come back next year, so my feeling is Gagai may be our Fullback, if he comes.

1. Gagai
2. Farnworth
3. Lee
4. Staggs
5. Cobbo
6. Nikorima
7. Reynolds

Not the worst back line.

We hit the ground running with that backline. Staggs at 5/8th is too experimental for a wooden spoon side on the re-build

That backline is elite and in the modern game, more importantly, versatile.

Gagai can play centre/wing/fullback
Farnworth can play centre/wing
Staggs can play anywhere except 7 and I wonder if KNik comes, does Staggs go to fb? Big risk coming back from a knee explosion
Cobbo can play centre/fullback/wing
KNik can play fullback/half/hooker

Or... Brenko has been signed as depth to replace Kennar given our starting centers are Herbie and Arthars.

Herbie is excellent on the wing so Gagai could easily come into left center with Staggs at right.

Just because we sign a player doesn't automatically mean they have been signed as part of the starting side... the media may make out like they're superstar signings regardless of who it is, but at some point NSWRL probably also made a fuss about us signing Kennar.

In fairness, on a day of signings for the Broncs, Lee was the headline act.
