Looks like lodge and TPJ staying now. No one wants to pay for them it seems. Fair enough too, especially with lodge.

Let's peg it back, we've just gone from seeing one of the great origin backlines to seeing us.

We won't be floating players around, we can barely get through a set of 6

Dave Fifita is only 21. I'm pretty sure around this time Dave Taylor left for South Sydney because he couldn't get a regular crack in first grade at the Broncos. He was starting to play at the end of his tenure with the Broncos after he made the decision to leave though.

Bottom line Fifita needs to add more to his game. But to suggest he's a scrub and he's finished at 21 is a bit disingenuous. No, I'm not suggesting you are but some are on here. For QLD he needs to be part of the solution not part of the problem and his game needs to grow.

The other thing against Manly he couldn't make an impact in the second half because Gold Coast couldn't get the ball back. Its wasn't all his fault.

He needs so show up in the middle third coming out of trouble, not on the edge when they bash him because they see him coming a mile away

Chris Garry I believe saying now that Lodge and TPJ are staying for the rest of the season.
The club now needs to stop fluffing about, play out the year with the squad you have.

They have been two of our better performers, so work on repairing the relationship and get a bloody win on the board.

I really don't want b2b wooden spoons.

the club never said they would be released mid-season ... just for 2022

I'm gunna guess Tigers backed off TPJ coz of the suspension maybe?
Think their storm flogging might have suggested the players they have at the club currently are cutting it and Pangai wouldnt make the club instantly better in that department either.

Yeah I get that, but they have been vocal the TPJ gas fallen victim to salary Cap constraints and are happy for him to walk.

Lodge has said he has been told you're gone/you're staying.

Now they the club has to wash the egg off its face and just keep going.

I don't mind it with TPJ if he has been shopping himself around again as has been indicated but I do feel for Lodge. He isn't worth anywhere near the 800k he is reported to be on but that is absolutely not his fault, his agent took advantage of a pathetic former regime and laughed all the way to the bank. Even so, Lodge has given nothing but his all whenever he's been fit. He has been messed around clearly.

TPJ on the other hand, should have had his contract torn up last year, now we don't have a leg to stand on as no one else will take him unless we chip in about half of his contract I'd say.

In any case, all pretty amateurish.

Total embarrassment. Do the supports they want around the football department to help KW extend to a proper media advisor? I certainly hope so.
Maybe there is some kind of strategy here to get them playing well enough to be somehow salable assets by seasons end or the targets we had lined up are no longer on the hook?
With @Sproj, the time to get rid of the utter liability TPJ was last year and as for Lodge, kicking in half his salary might be about market.

I dont see him succeeding there at all. People hold onto this game he played for Tonga as an example of why he could succeed but i dont see it. I dont see him having anything i'd want from a half tbh. I reckon he will come in and do well at the start because he offers something different and he is competitive, and people will get carried away with it ( a bit like Gamble ) but the more he plays there the more his deficiencies will show. His strength is his power and pace running on an edge. I've said it before, but he isnt going to get that kind of room as regularly at 6, and he is going to have a lot more traffic running at him and a lot more defence at 6 to contend with. Its going to dull his game unless we are dominating games. He is going to have to change his game a lot to be a success.
Agreed, it would be so Broncos to have him change his game up to fit. And lose his best assets. Ugh

What an embarrassing mess this club is currently.

Everything football related in this state is a mess at the moment, and it's hard to see light at the end of the tunnel.

QLD Maroons - belted 70 points to 6 over two games, lost the shield - Coached by Paul fucking Green
Broncos - An absolute dumpster fire from top to bottom and only now starting a 5 year rebuild - Coached by Kevin Walters, a raw rookie coach in first grade with a poor record even in Super League
Titans - Started off strong but have been exposed hard in recent times. Overpaying players out of desperation and not getting enough return for it - Coached by Justin Holbrook, looked to have a lot of upside for awhile but now seems to be falling back to earth
Cowboys - Doing slightly better than the rest but hard to see them making finals which is an automatic fail in anyone's book. Taumalolo looks to be running out of steam, and that contract still has a lot of time left on the clock - Coached by Todd Peyton, already failed at the Warriors and now seems to be nothing better than an 8th-12th coach with the Cows.

You would think that being one failing party in a whole group of them would be somewhat of a comfort, but considering how far behind the Broncos are even compared to the Cows and Tits, it's cold comfort. Verrry rough times ahead if you're a Rugby League fan in QLD.

It just seems like the QRL and the clubs are utterly failing the junior development systems across the entire state, and aren't fighting hard enough to prevent the good ones getting poached from the vultures south of the border who have been incapable of cultivating their own talent for 20+ years.

I still think this announcement is much about nothing. Kevin Walters says that no one is going anywhere, but also adds he would like to 'finish the season on a positive note'.

It's basically no one is going anywhere for the rest of the season. Walters suggest the players want stability, but then says that Tevita Pangai Jnr will be staying at the Broncos till the rest of the year.

The only positive the players in question (Matt Lodge, Pangai) can take out of it. Is it may buy them some time to pick up their form and give the Broncos hierarchy a rethink. But they have to do it, that is it in a nutshell. They have to start delivering wins.

Lodge doesn't have to deliver a thing. He's got a contract whether Walters likes it or not. It's absolutely awful man management from Walters.
