The club apparently see Niu as more of a centre, yet we were looking at potentially signing gagai, and at centre he was already probably 5th choice next year behind Staggs, Farnworth, Lee & Arthars.

I'm not sure Tesi is a huge loss right now, but he could be.

I think he is a smarter fullback than Isaako, but right now he looks like he is lacking power. He looks like he should have some power through the hips, but he can't seem to break a tackle.

If he fills out a bit I think he could become decent.

His ball playing isn't elite, but he does enough with the ball in hand to be able to finish off sweep plays, and he puts in grubber kicks quite often as well. If his tackle busting improves then his running game will become a threat to go with it.

If he can't improve his power then I think he probably just becomes an average fullback as his running game doesn't look as threatening as it should be. The big bust he had was against a prop off the scrum, but I recall early in the year that he was getting some decent early ball out in the centers and just couldn't break the first tackle.

Right now Isaako's tackle busting and therefore his running game is much better, but he can't get his head right to be consistently focussed on the game.

He showed early in the year that he can be an NRL fullback and offers something back there, but the dragons debacle happens after he gets wind that the broncos were after Hynes and it's clear that his head is elsewhere and thinking about where he's going to play next year.

What has happened since... We miss out on Hynes, Cobbo isn't ready, there aren't any fullbacks on the market and Niu could be out the door... Isaako is all of a sudden back in the frame to be fullback next year, but he's been dropped back to the wing because he dropped his bundle after the club had the nerve to look at an elite fullback option... who could've played 6 if Isaako made it impossible to drop him from the spine.

yep this is a good summation, issako has all the tools to be a great fullback physically that is, but he looked mentally cooked, could be due to his dad, pressure etc. i got no hate for any of our players (except milf) and want them to do well, if we had someone like slater to mentor him, the sky could be the limit. unfortunately the clubs and fans arent looking for a long rebuild they just want quick fixes. i doubt cobbo will be ready next season he still looks like half a season away

I sense that this report has had to have come from nui's agent. He has played several games as a starting fullback and now wants to get paid so is threatening that there are other offers. I dont buy that and in no way think we should entertain the idea of getting into a bidding war.

Nui does have many of the attributes to be a good fullback, but requires the right training. For our fullbacks I really think we should be looking at getting billy slater in as a specialist coach (or sending them down to him for several weeks). Every man has their price, so I would be making the approach.

I have heard him talk on fullback play and he is very good. Look who he has mentored and taught whilst playing, and since his retirement; munster (when he played fullback in slaters absence during his2 shoulder injuries), papenhuyzen, drinkwater (who even outside the storm system is the cowboys best attacking player and leader on the field) and hynes. He gets results, and I expect meaney to turn into a very good player under his guidance.

Nui, cobbo, herbie and even arthurs under slaters training could be very good and fill in a gap until another permanent option became available (I.e. manu, hammer?).

I cant see where Tesi goes where he gets a fullback position if he leaves. Even as a center i'm struggling. He's nowhere near ready, still probably needs another 12 months in one position in ISC to learn his trade. I feel for him in some ways. He has been hyped up massively which isnt his fault, but i reckon people around him have bought into that hype and are giving him a bit of poor advice. A year or two here with some solid development on a realistic salary and he's got a chance of being a long term player here. If he leaves i think he is just going to end up back in ISC.

It's kind of odd. I mean, Nui in various roles has been an experiment and most on here don't seem to have an issue with it. They seemed perfectly happy to try things but when I suggest a little risk free experiment it's largely rejected out of hand. I cannot but think that's simply due to preconceptions.

With the season gone we should feel free to test everything within reason. No, not Kennedy at halfback😀

What do you think of Cobbo at 1?

From what I’ve seen he’s a big kid who does some things well but I haven’t watched him and thought “there’s a franchise spine player”.

What are you on about? Niu is terrible at centre and most only were happy to have him play fullback due to lack of options and how unfit for the role Isaako is.

It's truly impressive that you managed to turn this into "Isaako should be 5/8".

I think Cobbo is the most over-rated player on BHQ. If he didn't look like Latrell, there would be far less kind words said about him. He is a long way off being a first grade player.

I think he's another who just needs to be left to develop in ISC at fullback. Hard to judge a lot of these players with the way we develop them.

We absolutely deserve the lions share of the blame, I'd only want to balance some of that out by acknowledging that we have been to some extent the victim of poor timing to plan a rebuild because it coincided with the shutting down of the Queensland Cup and the loss of development opportunities that some of our guys really should have had by now.

I know all clubs had the same shut down, but for us the timing was particularly unfortunate given the gambles we'd just made with our roster.

I don't think he's worth more than 200k honestly and a single year. I'm not sold at all but I'd be okay with another year to see if there's anything worth persisting with.

If he or his manager are playing any funny buggers at all, I'd say thanks for your service and good luck.
