It's pretty sad that near all the best QLDERS are playing in non QLD sides!
If only Cyril Connell lived forevr we'd probably have Munster AND Grant at the Broncs. (both from Cyril's hometown!)
Shit, if Wayne stayed in Brisbane we would have a shot at almost any Queenslander we wanted. After their Origin experience last year they all loved him.

IF Turpin can play week in week out like he did on Friday night, I’m not sure we need to spend the bank on B.Smith.
Munster on the other hand, is someone I’d love the club to chuck 1.5mill on. He is what we need. Put Dearden next to him, and I think this side absolutely thrives. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure Munster is locked up for at least the next few years.

@1910 what are your thoughts on us keeping Walsh? I think he is a genuine star that we currently have at the club, but looks like we are (again) at big risk of loosing him to another club throwing the bank at him..
I’d love for him to stick around. Surely we could shop Isaako to the Warriors. I’d be happy for us to chip in a bit to make sure we keep Walsh as our long term FB.

It will come down to what he values, the Warriors offer is double. If they can convince him that his best chance at success is home and here and his big contract will come when this one ends at 21 and he's played ISC and NRL.

Happy to return to Queensland "for an expansion team", clearly not the Broncos lol

I swear, these Melbourne players have had it baked into their crust to hate the Broncos with a burning passion. Smith snubbed us multiple times, Inglis ditched us at the last minute for Souffs, Slater never entertained the idea and neither did Cronk who chose Sydney over his home.

I will always be grateful for what they did for the Maroons, but honestly, **** them all.

Double, well I don't like our chances then.
Is it a long term deal?
I wonder what his thoughts are on upping and leaving to live in a different country..

Why is it always our blokes?
It's just shit.

I think Walsh re-signs on a one year deal.

It is. I watched Hoy playing REALLY well, as he always does when given the chance, for Newcastle and he is behind Ponga there. Any talk of him getting offered double despite being off contract as far as I'm aware? Nope, not a peep.

Sounds like a $600k vs $300k type deal then... if so then that's basically the Ponga deal that Newcastle decided to take a risk on, whilst cows stuck with Coote.

I haven't seen a whole lot of Walsh however, I would be happy for the club to take a gamble on him ie if the Warriors are offering 600k, we should go to 450k and hopefully that'll keep him here.
We have had enough shit luck with paying players big $ and it hasn't turned out. Surely the tide has to change and it pays off.
In saying that, I have no idea on how the club see him/his $ value however.
Surely we get rid of a few non performers from our 2022 roster, we would have the cash.

300k plus third party earning potential sounds a really good offer to me. That offer from the Warriors is ridiculous but on the positive side, they rarely get players they are after, so we might be ok.

I can't make sense of it, as Fox Sports say otherwise...
So he's contracted til the end of '22, but they will let him go if a club lets them sign an elite lock forward?
I guess we can't offer them anything, as we need RIKI and TPJ (if they even fit that bill, the whole lock-forward term is pretty loose.)

This below is what Fox Sports has said today:

"Smith is contracted to Melbourne until the end of 2022 but could pay the Storm as much as $200,000 to get a release at the end of this season."
"The Herald says Smith is earning about half a million dollars next year from the Storm, but the club would want to replace him with an elite lock-forward which could cost them as much as $700,000."

Instead of the other needed forwards...dangle em a carrot, in the form of origin rep Carrigan

Don't think we need to offload anymore players we should have tons of cap space for next year. I'd say we'd have the most cap space available out of any team except maybe the sharks (Woods, Moylan and SJ all off contract).

Reasonable deal for Walsh over a 2yr deal... if it backfires then it's only 2yr (end of 2023).. if it goes well like the Ponga deal then we have our decade plus superstar fullback ready to go.

Can also sell it to Walsh that the shorter term deal means it's more like an interim deal or a "show of faith" in anticipation of the bigger deal in a couple years.

With the new rule that a player can't upgrade if they force a move to a different club then younger guys may be less inclined for long term deals until they've had a chance to make a mark on the NRL and really determine their value.

We've got soooo much cap for next year and beyond... can we afford to take a risk on a guy like Walsh?? I think we can

He won’t get any TPA. Manager won’t do the work.

and in Walsh's case he hasn't even played reserve grade (ISC) yet

then if i was him i'd be firing his manager ...

Broncos had $350,000 in total and you think an uncapped 18 year old is going to get part of that pie?

Glenn and Boyd were probably 85% of that figure.

You're right, he's extremely unlikely to get part of that pie ... but I would still fire any manager who "won't do the work"

Actually reminds me of a union official that came to the site I was working about 12 years ago. Informed us that the union wouldn't be seeking our annual pay rise that year, because we were paid above the award and one of the higher paying companies... we basically told him that we paid his union to work for us and we didn't give a shit about the pay structure of our competitors ... two things happened that year, we didn't get a pay rise, and the union's membership base decreased significantly.

Sort of off track I suppose, but my point is if I am a rugby league player, I wouldn't care if I was on 100k a year or 1 million a year, if my manager wasn't prepared to do the work, then I would be seeking new representation
