Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

To be fair he still had a year left on his contract, and was extended before other clubs could provide an offer. Probably also helps that his manager wasn't making statements that they want to "test the market".
Except I think the frustration is around how much hype our kids get which starts to generate media attention and then click bait articles about other clubs circling.

- Piakura before his previous contract
- Oates and the dogs back in the day
- Flegler and his hype whenever it came time to re-sign
- Dolphins trying to entice our players to break contract (Oloapu, Mariner, etc.)
- Mozer being the next CS9
- Mariner hype before he re-signed
- Tesi being the next Lockyer and greatest athlete to ever walk the earth
- Dearden being the next Alfie
- Joffa, TPJ, Beale, Copley, etc. just regular first graders getting hyped to the max drawing attention from vulture clubs to generate clicks

It pisses me off too but it is never going to change because The Broncos get clicks. For every article they put out saying 'The Next Superstar' you will have equal amounts Broncos fans interacting to day "yeah boy Broncos 4 lyf" and Bronco haters jumping in to be like "another flop, fucking cheaters, wah wah"

It's always been this way hasn't it, we take kids with raw talent, put them into the development system and bring them up to NRL grade while still retaining that raw edge. You only need to look at Selwyn Cobbo's try against the Dolphins where he made something brilliant out of nothing at all to see evidence of that. Suddenly these kids become superstars and every club starts licking their chops and counting their cash down to the last zack. The thing that pisses me off as much as the hype is the years of time and effort that goes into this process only to hear players like David Fifita referred to as a "Broncos product out of Keebra Park" like he's a can of friggin' beans.
I would be really interested to know how many clubs have a Development program like the Broncs if anyone has any idea.

Yea but that's what you get for being one of the bigger/most popular clubs. Only way to stop it is if people stopped caring about the Bronocs.

Been said before, needs to be more incentives for clubs with big development systems (us and riff In particular).

I am also of the view, there needs to be more ways to sanction player managers caught flaunting the rules. Too many contracts are broken these days.

Nothing will change in this regard.

It’s a symbiotic relationship:

Managers play the field, regardless of contract status or rules -> 24/7 NRL media pick it up and run with it -> NRL is talked about more in the papers and by the average punter -> NRL media tout their influence as a bargaining tool for a below-par rights deal -> NRL currently full of incompetent dodgy ***** don’t care how much money the game doesn’t make and what state it’s in -> no repercussions or standards and the managers continue what they’re doing and the cycle repeats

Do you think the CFOs and Foot Ball Managers at clubs read that drivel and then act ?
Oh look ! The Murdoch press have hype on this kid better get out the cheque book !

LOL .

Good club management should have those things lined up at least a year before the media gets on the band wagon .

That relies on all 17 clubs having competent professional recruitment and management ... we all know that's not the case

Isn't that part of the reason we have used nicknames for up and coming players in this forum?

The Bronx have about 11 players off contract after 2024, we should resign the best and the first graders asap. And keep a million for Hass. If he wants more, tell him it's a team and not one top dog.
If overpay him we will loss other top players and be lucky to make the finals.

If we keep this team for a while we should be able to win a GF. We are already losing Flegler and Herbie. Be terrible to loss homegrowns like Erza and Cobbo.

I actually think if we could sign Mo and Arrow for the loss of Haas, that would be a good decision. we'd still have more than enough in the forwards to mitigate most of Haas' loss.

This makes more financial sense too for '25:
8. Mo
10. Willison/Jensen
11. Riki
12. Piakura
13. Carrigan

15. Arrow
16. Hetherington
17. Capewell/Te Kura

That's a more than good enough forward pack.

Badel warning. Anyone know what this is about.
I asked the same thing in the Rabbits pre match thread haha.

Apparently its Paix/Paix manager threatening legal action for rumours/speculation around why he was dropped to cup.

Badel warning. Anyone know what this is about.

I did answer in the Rabbits game thread ... but i'll answer here too:

Paix' manager has said that Paix loves the club, his teammates and Kevvie and has threatened legal action if social media posts claiming other wise continue

Paix' agent Paul Hogan said:

“The comments about Cory are another example of social-media gone wild,” Hogan said.

“Any suggestion Cory is fighting with Broncos players couldn’t be further from the truth.

“It’s nothing but false and malicious allegations.

“If the posts continue we will explore legal options because it’s basically defamatory what Cory is being subjected to.

“Naturally he would love to be playing NRL, but he has no issue with ‘Kevvie’ (Walters) or anyone at the Broncos.

“Cory is determined to fight his way back and play NRL again.”
