Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

Dobbo:
“Tesi Niu has expressed an interest to leave the Broncos. He’s currently contracted to the Brisbane Broncos for this season coming, but he has expressed an interest to leave. He’s not the starting fullback here at Red Hill, which is expected to go to Reece Walsh. Now there’s a two-horse race – Newcastle and the Dolphins are both trying to secure his services for two years. Expect the Dolphins to put in a real big fight, they’ve shown a lot of interest and they are talking to his management.”

I’d like to see Tesi at Newcastle because O’Brien, being the idiot he is, is apparently set on Ponga at 6 which means Tesi is a real shot at fullback. I just still have a strong feeling Tesi has something special in him but those defensive instincts and issues, well you can’t coach that out, it’s all on him.

Heads up: help needed.

I'm expanding the Roster Tracker to track rumours of players both incoming and outgoing. Must have a familiar source I can attribute, regardless of your own opinion of their credibility. They can prosper or perish by what ensues. Not your problem.

If you have anything to add, please let me know.

@Accept What is the current status of your Ben Marschke rumour?

Why would any NRL club even offer Tesi a contract he`s not up to 1st grade NRL standard ??
Maybe Super League ?
He's a current international who spent five years in the prestigious Broncos' Elite Development Academy, where he was described as the "next Darren Lockyer." By the age of 21, he'd played 32 NRL games and scored 11 tries. Wayne Bennett has confirmed his interest.

Do you accept whispers?

Yep, cat and mouse stuff right there. Now it's just up to the Broncos to let him talk to other clubs. If they haven't already done so. Calling it now: Tesi's gone.
Damn shame that one…

Brisbane has hit out at claims made by rising star Karl Oloapu that the NRL club broke a number of promises made to him.

wide world of sports can reveal the teenage five-eighth is refusing to attend training sessions with the Broncos, and is trying to leave the club for an NRL rival or, failing that, a switch to rugby union or the Super League.

The Australian Schoolboys captain told WWOS that when he signed a three-year contract with the club early this year he was promised a spot in the top-30 NRL squad, the chance to meet and speak to head coach Kevin Walters, and that he would be allowed to play his preferred position of five-eighth.
Oloapu now claims the Broncos are denying him a spot in the NRL squad, he's been told he will have to play a different position and change his body shape, and he has not yet met with Walters.
He requested a release, which was denied by Brisbane.
On Tuesday afternoon the Broncos responded to those claims.

"The facts are that Karl is a quality young man who has been in the Broncos Academy system since he was 13 years old and in January this year he willingly committed to a contract with our club for three years from 2023-2025," head of recruitment Simon Scanlan said.
"Prior to signing that contract, we worked from late November 2021 with Karl, his family and his then-manager to reach an agreement on a contract extension.
"The day before the final contract was signed in late January this year, Karl and his family chose to part ways with that manager.
"It was not until June this year – shortly after Karl and his family engaged a new player manager – that we received a request for a substantial upgrade to his three-year contract which had not even begun.
"We denied that request but committed to reviewing it during the 2024 season. Subsequently, a player release was requested.
"Both the NRL and RLPA have reviewed the situation at the request of the player agent and no wrongdoing by the club was found.
"In recent months we have done our utmost to work with his new agent to reach a way forward but multiple attempts to meet with Karl have been rejected.
"It is disappointing to learn that Karl feels the way he does, but the door is most certainly open at the Broncos for him to rejoin training with our NRL squad.
"Karl would be welcomed with open arms and would be fully supported by all our staff.

Good on the broncos for getting on the front foot here with FACTS. **** these player agents and young players CONSTANTLY feeling entitled to more, more, more without a single drop of commitment or honesty.

As much as this is a red flag for keeping this fuckwit (guaranteed it wont be the last contract he is not going to stick too), I hope we stick to our guns and effectively ruin his career. What a time in his career to pull this card haha absolutely stupid timing....

It's absolutely a combination of 2 things....

1) He wants to play for the Dolphins, which given his background is understandable

2) His new manager wants his cut

Whatever combination of those two things it is...stiff shit IMO. He signed a contract and similar to Hass he's coming off looking pretty bad in all of this IMO, difference is though his career hasn't even begun. Dumb move

Also Wayne has reportedly offered him double what the Broncos are paying.

Karl is looking like a flog **** before he's even played a game. I'd say release him but we shouldn't give in. That's the 3rd Bronco now pulling that BS.

Player managers are the devil.
