Broncos v Bulldogs Build-up thread

The Broncos will be lucky if they can pull 17 fit players together for first grade, let alone under 20s.

That is why I was raising eyebrows when people start to say the Broncos are clear favourites so early. Remember 05 when we won 10 straight or something? Everyone had us pencilled in for the GF except US. We knew the good teams will step up towards the end of the season and we would be the ones chasing. 2009 has a similar feel to it in a way. To be brutally honest I don't think we are READY to win in this year (ala Dragons) but I think we can make it. The next 6-8 rounds however will give us some insight to what we have to offer this year. I just think we need some good go forward. Like civo used to do.

Yeah like Clinton has been giving us all season........seriously under the circumstances I say let him play tomorrow night.

I'm now having to fight my own CEO (missus) to let me go tomorrow night... "I don't want you to get swine flu"....

Tell her you bring home the bacon so you can get swine flu if you want to!

with quarantine guidelines being suddenly relaxed by QLD Health, I don't think the swine flu is the issue atm, its the lack of preparation...

Seriously I would get quarantined to the shed with the huntsman spiders....

I just hope we infect a bunch of Bulldogs players with the flu tomorrow so they suffer this kind of shit for weeks to come. Yes, I'm serious. Level playing field.
I'm with you.

Just call the whole thing off this week, every game!!! Pretend this week didn't exist and give everyone 2 points... LOST tv show anyone!?

On a serious note, i'm with the posters who says lets hope whoever plays, gives it their all. If we lose, we lose but I'll be proud. I'm going to use reverse psychology in my tipping this week, tipping Doggies and pray like hell we win. Win/win either way.

Dude you are forbidden to abandon the amigos - we've talked about what happens when even 1 of us misses a live game.

I will come over and give you the swine flu anyway.

Gallop on OneHD just said game is definitely on - he has just spoken to Broncos. Apparently the players got involved and pushed for it to go ahead.

Please. It's no big deal if they go a week without training. They don't forget how to tackle etc and lose condition in a week.

they WILL be at risk of being flogged which I think is the real issue here.

Hit the nail on the head. There is no excuse to get flogged and not to come out and put in 100%. It's a real balls up from everyone involved - the Cowboys had their coach, head conditioner and best player not train for this week and they aren't whinging.

Havn'et really been paying too much attentino tbh, but to me it seems there is only 1 party making a big deal out of this. The Broncos.

Just let the boys play.

Don't tell me his dropped for ANOTHER game? jesus.
Also - breaking news = http://www.foxsports.com.au/story/0,865 ... 14,00.html
Apparantly the Broncos won't play.

I still think there are questions to be asked and answered about WHY the quarantine happened the way it did? Where did that advice actually come from? Why didn't the Broncos just use the usual protocols for a flu infection and quarantine anyone SHOWING symptoms? Why quarantine the lot?

IMO it was very poor, stupid, ignorant advice that led to a week without training unnecessarily.

Whoever gave the advice should be strung up by the balls.
If there was no advice and the Broncos just did this because they thought it made sense, then whoever decided that should be sacked.

OK, I haven't really been reading the latest posts in this thread, but I just received an email from Broncos:

Round 14 - Game to go ahead as scheduled

Broncos Statement said:
The Broncos have now agreed to play the match against the Bulldogs
tomorrow night despite the limited preparation of the team.

Below are quotes from Brisbane Broncos chief executive Bruno Cullen:

"Today when the Queensland Health Service made the decision that the
players would be able to play despite the quarantine, we were a bit
caught out.

"We had happily followed their instructions to the letter all week so
thought there would be no chance of playing the game tomorrow night.

"For the majority of the players the 72-hour quarantine was not going to
finish until 10pm tomorrow night.

"Our medical staff also indicated that they thought with no preparation
all week there was a real risk of injury due to the physicality of the
game that is the NRL.

"So when we made that indication to the NRL it was because we were of
the opinion that it would just be impossible to play tomorrow night and
some sort of compromise would be better for the players.

"But after talking through the issue more tonight with the management,
club directors and coaching staff, we thought if the players wanted to
play, we would let them play.

"That is why we have made the decision to support them tomorrow night.

"We hope the Broncos fans will also come out and support them because it
is going to be a huge effort just to have got a squad on the field."
