Broncos withdraw offer for Hunt

this is so depressing. petero was hard enough, hannant was hard to take, but karmichael? the player i KNEW would play 300+ games for the broncos, and would captain the broncos to many successes. this is just fucked.

I blindly hold faith that K will sign up for 3 years; it would go a long way to restoring people's trust for last year's stupidity. Do the three years at whatever cost, become a leader, and captain from 2012. Then get paid the cash whilst Locky coaches you.

And here I am (and many others I suspect), having to scrape together enough money for a game ticket and hopefully enough to enjoy a beer at the game. These guys will never know this feeling and he's still a kid, they get almost everything on a platter even after earning these dollars, so KH and/or his manager can get fucked.

What's so bad about wanting to earn as much as you possibly can in your profession?

Don't you want to be paid well for the work you do?

Keep in mind that the term "greedy" is subjective.

Don't you also consider things like the working environment, future opportunities, workmates etc?

Of course I do. But sometimes you have to take the leap into the unknown even if you love where you are right now.

I'm doing it by moving to London in a couple of months. Yes, I'm giving up what I have here but I'm excited about the opportunities that lie ahead along with the extra cash in the pocket.

After weighing up my current working environment, future opportunities and workmates compared to what I *may* have overseas, I chose to move on.

I think it's the best thing for me to do at my age, my relationship status, my living arrangement and in my career.

But you know what, if they offered me double that cash to stay here I would.

But that's the thing, nobody is offering him more...so why the song and dance about wanting to see what else there is? Nobody else seems to want him.......

Well that's him trying to bump up his asking price because he is most likely happy to stay. But he wants to stay while earning the most he can...which goes back to my original question. What's so bad about wanting to earn as much as you can?

Here's a conspiracy theory for you. Who's to say that he's not using the "I'm sick of Brisbane" excuse to get offers from rival clubs? And to have the CEO put that out into the media would be a stroke of genius!

But that's the thing, nobody is offering him more...so why the song and dance about wanting to see what else there is? Nobody else seems to want him.......

His been offered a $1million dollar a season for japanese rugby for 3 years.
But he has said that he will not play for another NRL team, so Japan it is.

Broncos to switch Darren Lockyer to fullback with Karmichael Hunt set to leave.

Steve Ricketts | March 18, 2009 12:00am
THE Broncos may look to extend captain Darren Lockyer's career by returning him to fullback next year, with Karmichael Hunt increasingly likely to defect to an overseas league or rugby union club. The switch of Lockyer to the custodian spot, where he first rose to fame in 1997, was one of the options raised at a meeting at the Broncos yesterday called to discuss the club's 2010 playing roster.

Chief executive Bruno Cullen said such a move would have the added benefit of reducing the veteran's defensive workload.

"It could help prolong his career," he said.

Lockyer, who turns 32 next Tuesday, played fullback until 2004 when Hunt made his debut.

Barely a news article, but still it's interesting how they might be thinking.

Whilst it would help reduce the amount of tackling he does in a match, i'm not sure he'd be too keen to return a kick into a wall of forwards.

Is Ben Hunt going to be ready by then ? or do we then have to go out and buy a 5/8 ... I hope not cause they basically don't exist nowadays

Having a player that commands as much cash as K drop out of plans, certainly does open up a myriad of options

However unless the Folau/Hodges both playing right centre issue can be resolved this year, I'd still prefer Hodges at fullback ... Locky would chime into the backline like he does now and play 5/8, and he will be as safe as a bank under the high ball, and provide lots of support through the middle of the field - but he isn't going trouble defences on kick returns nor make breaks like he once did as his pace is dwindling by the year

Somebody in this thread said that Hunt was great with our one set play etc working off Locky that we can't teach anybody else overnight ... I agree ... but moving Hodges to Fullback you get a different type of fullback, a different point of attack, a destructive runner who can make large inroads putting us in scoring position ... that could also leave Folau where he is most comfortable and ultimately most effective for the long haul ... its just a different style of player, not necessarily a negative

Oink !

Easily resolved. Folau plays right wing where he is best.

I recon fullback would be far easyer on Locky's body then 5/8. Remember he'd only be making a couple tackles a game at fullback where-as every barsted in the NRL runs at him all game up in the front line. I think if he goes to full back we could milk an extra year out of him, not too different to what the titans have done with preston campbell. Don't quote me on it but wasn't locky voted best QLD fullback of all time? Plus we have options at 5/8 in Ben Hunt or McCullough just about ready to go.

Not disputing this with Hunt on board and Michaels playing well at left centre ... was always my preference

But with Hunt gone, things change

Although in complete agreement that right wing is best place for Folau, I still concede its a lot of cash for a winger

Agreed Coxy.

Fact is, if these figures are correct on what we offered him, what other club is going to pay bigger bucks for him? Nearly every team in the comp has a very established, talented fullback. There are a few clubs such as Tigers, Raiders etc who will actually have that sort of money that would want to but I doubt Hunt would go there just for the cash.

He'll sign on, I'm sure of it.

It has been stated he won't go to another club but the 2 other clubs who will have cap room are the Rooters and Dogs who have fullbacks on their last legs due to their back problems.

It has actually been reported that the Broncos offer was the only FIRM offer on the table for Hunt, but there is speculation that Eddie Jones wants him at his Japanese club where he could earn $1 million a season
