Building towards the future.

I love this thread. Should have been called Great Expectations but I guess Dickens might object.

Given this thread is all about speculation, and speculation is largely but not only, all about assumptions, and given that Marshall McLuhan (he played for Newtown in the 50's) said: “Most of our assumptions have outlived their uselessness”, I see things very very simply.

1. Next year, assuming Barba regains his true form, He will be FB for some years;

2. Assuming Milford is an honourable man (unlike Brutus) he will be 5/8 for some years;

3. Assuming Hunt continues to evolve, he will be half back for some years;

...then, apart from the great fun and games this thread genuinely is, I fail to see why we are bothering to discuss the development of any young halves at all 'cos they won't have a snowball's chance in hell of playing NRL for the Broncos, except maybe as reserves if any of the above are injured, if any of them are still here and not signed elsewhere.

For mine, it is the forwards who should be the focus of development in this thread more than any other position, and their imminent promotion to the top grade, given our pack is, for mine, a real worry as shown clearly by the way a number of the better packs have steamrolled us up the middle in the games we have lost.

But then, as I said, I see things simply, and maybe too simply, but to me, the bleeding obvious about our forwards now, and down the track, is simple enough to see.

I agree entirely, if only because Georgia makes everything seem more research-journal-like.

You can cross Duncan off the list as having a future with the club. He has been shopped around the past few weeks, my contact from the warriors said they are interested in his services. So you may well see him in the warriors outfit next year

We have Taylor secure and the Nikorima boys to develop, I think we need to let Duncan go we cant keep them all.

1 Barba / K Nikorima
6 Milford / Nicholls
7 Hunt / Taylor
9 McCullough / Granville

I think the depth next year is good enough.

I wouldnt be so certain on the Nikorima's, kodi is highly unlikely to get a new contract and jayden is hot property with quite a few clubs. So it will be an interesting juggling act coming up.

why wouldn't kodi get another contract ?

Bump!

So, in light of Bennett's return and Garbutt's signing, how do we think we'll line up next year?

I would like to see something like this:

1 Ben Barba
2 Josh Hoffman
3 Dale Copley
4 Justin Hodges (c)
5 Daniel Vidot
6 Anthony Milford
7 Ben Hunt
8 Josh McGuire
9 Andrew McCullough
10 Ben Hannant
11 Alex Glenn
12 Matt Gillett
13 Corey Parker (c)

Interchange
14 Sam Thaiday
15 Corey Oates
16 Martin Kennedy
17 Mitch Garbutt

If the rumors are true, then Barba will be gone. And I hope that Bennett has a plan that doesn't include Boyd or Hoffman at fullback

It's a strong side

Not sure if Hoff will stay, but I hope he does

He is awesome on the wing

If Bennett needs to clear the $$ he might need to get rid of Kennedy. I really just don't care anymore. I am finished with following a footy team. I'll just worry about fantasy sports from now on.

1. Ben Barba
2. Daniel Vidot
3. Dale Copley
4. Justin Hodges (c)
5. Lachlan Maranta
6. Anthony Milford
7. Ben Hunt
8. Josh McGuire
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Ben Hannant
11. Matt Gillett
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker (c)

14. Jack Reed
15. Corey Oates
16. Mitch Garbutt
17. Mitch Dodds

I hope Barba stays. With Milford in the side, I can definitely see him getting back to his best.

Gillett to make the switch to the left so he can link up with the likes of Milford & Copley.

Thaiday on the right. He works on hitting the line at speed, spinning and offloading to a player running in support.

Jack Reed to spend the pre-season preparing for the transition to the back row. Copley is wasted on the wing.

Hoffman, Glenn, Kennedy can **** off. Hoffman is no fullback or 5/8, and he will have a bitch with playing on the wing. Glenn is useless and I can't see Kennedy staying.

I would not mind seeing that next year at all.

Assuming Bennett is not completely senile and leaves his Newcastle nuffies where they belong (I.e. anywhere but the Broncos) I would name this lineup.

1. Milford/Barba
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Hoffman
6. Barba/Milford
7. Hunt
8. McGuire
9. Macca
10. Hannant
11. Gillett
12. That day
13. Parker

14. Glenn
15. Garbutt
16. Oates
17. Molo/Hala/Dodds

Notes:

1. As long as Hoffman is prepared to stop whinging, play his best position of wing and give it his all, if not he can **** off.

2. The 1 and you spots would depend how Barba goes for the remainder of the year. If he shows promise he gets the 6 for next year if not Milford gets the 6.

Hoffman with his left foot step (see, I was listening when people told me why he was better on the left) should go left wing. Vidot can go on the right - he played most, if not all, of his Dragons games there IIRC. And he's used to being outside a ball hog.
