Building towards the future.

Should have just promoted Strasser or signed Adrian Davis or something. They might not have been particularly good, but still worth a shot over Hoffman.

I had a feeling this would happen, I wanted us to sign a half last year just in case, but we were content with Kennedy instead. Hopefully these U20s will be ready next year.

So you're basing the fact you think players are up to NRL on the table?

Sure, let's just pick and choose which parts of my statements to respond to.

The problem with people that demand promotion is they don't watch the games, they rely on names popping up in the media and tables. They're normally fans of frustrating teams who want a quick answer to a problem.

Yeah, I did forget you're the only one who shows up to the under 20s and Q Cup games. I apologize.

Personally i think we have a good group of halves coming through, but i would rather us introduce them to first grade properly rather than a sink or swim situation ... and as has been said in this thread, if they don't perform brilliantly many people on here will instantly call for their demotion and then go on a rant about why hook selected them before they were ready.

lets have a look at the pros and cons to calling them up shall we.

Pros:

Hoffman is our current 5/8

Cons:

J. Nikorima is ineligible due to his age

Taylor is still coming back from a serious injury

They're not ready (both physically and mentally) for the rigors and intensity of a fulltime NRL spot in one of the toughest and most important positions on the field.

They would only be "warming" the 5/8 position temporarily as we all know that spot belongs to Milford in 2015. therefore by playing them now, assuming they shine, we would only be allowing them to audition to other clubs looking for a half.

They are obviously talented players, and will serve us well in the future, IF we develop them right ... if we don't they could be another Brett Seymour, i.e a player with tons of potential that never lived up to it in the NRL.

By all means, Hook! Throw the season away because these kids might not play for us next year. There is no way we get to keep these talented halves forever. They will no doubt sign with other clubs eventually. So why shouldn't we utilize them whilst we have them?

I mean, they aren't auditioning for other teams in under 20s because 1910 is the only one who watches those games anyway. Whilst we're at it we should probably not play Granville, Hannant or Copley until we re-sign them just in case other clubs are watching..

Whilst we're at it, I wish Bennett fucked Shane Perry off in 2006 and put Darius Boyd in at halfback. Tonie Carroll would have made a great prop too.

It is completely different showing what you have in the 20s ... to showing what you have in the NRL.

but my biggest point as has been pointed out by many who actually watch the games, Chris Garry also said it on his live blog and that is that at this stage our young halves are simply NOT READY for NRL level. so how about we get them ready, then give them game time. we may need them next year (or later this year) if we get an injury in the halves.

They might not be at the Broncos next year though. Seriously almost every game we have lost this season has been decided by one pass. If Hoffman threw that one pass to the chest, if Hoffman threw that one pass at all we would have an extra 4-6 points. Shit, if we had someone who could kick goals we would have lost like 1 or 2 games this season.

I don't really care if we are flooding rookies or not except that we have Stagg as a reserve hooker on the bench. I don't really mind Lowrie as much as at first but would much rather Molo have been given a shot during this origin period.

Molo needs to stop getting himself suspended.

Do you really think these kids are going to be our reserve grade spare tires for the rest of their careers? Give them a chance to show off their best and let them make a name for themselves at another club.

I realize you are frustrated as are most of us but we have to be patient

.

didn't you know that the only way to develop players properly is to throw them to the wolves in the NRL ... you can't develop in the lower grades.

Considering you were just repeating yourself and going round in circles, it didn't appear to be the case.

You're kidding? I don't think I repeated myself once. I was reiterating my opinion throughout the conversation.

The conversation wasn't going anywhere, both sides laid their opinions on the table and needed to move on.

Has anyone been keeping an eye on Darren Nicholls ? How's he going and could he handle playing 5/8 ? I'd love to see someone in the role who has been playing in the halves.

Was injured, came back from the bench two weeks go. No ISC this week and didn't make the Queensland side. Norths are in a bit of a hole at the moment so hard to gauge but Murphy runs their show on the field so Nicholls just pops ups and is settling in.
