Bulls 2014/2015

I think the Bulls lacked balance in their bowling attack. A bowler like Allister McDermott would have been handy in the Matador Cup. He seems to be out of favour since Stuart Law has been coach. A real shame Lynn is injured. I thought this year he really could have pushed hard for higher honours. Joe Burns needs to pull his finger out as well. Very talented but gets out LBW too often. I have to agree that Peter George will love bowling at the Gabba.

He played 5 Shield games last year for 18 wickets at 26 and 4 BB games, 0 One day games, he hasn't played a one day game for Queensland since February 2013 in the final.

He has been named in the seconds this week:

QAS v ACT
Canberra OCT 27-30 Canberra, (Mon – Thurs)
Marnus Labuschagne (Redlands), Michael Simmers (Sandgate-Redcliffe), Andrew Gode (Valley), Ben McDermott (Wynnum-Manly), Michael Phillipson (c,University of Queensland), James Pierson (Redlands), James Bazley (Sunshine Coast), Josh Dascombe (Valley), Cameron Gannon (Norths), Alister McDermott (Wynnum-Manly), Ronan McDonald (Toombul), Cameron Brimblecombe (Gold Coast).

For Wynnum this year 8 games and 16 wickets at 15.31

He is suited to shorter forms but can't get a game in 50 over cricket.

Harris batted yesterday and scored 55. Will bowl today.

Going to be a bit of a patched up side on Friday.

No Reardon, Khawaja, Lynn, Cutting or Boyce.

Hopefully young Andrew Gode gets to debut. Valleys captain and a pretty good young all rounder.

Simmers will be a go, seconds and averaging 63 for Sandgate so far.

Gode 38
Phillipson 40

Nick Stevens has played three games for the Bulls but isn't having a great start to the year averaging 14.

Ben McDermott too.

The my FootDr Queensland Bulls will begin their 2014-15 first class season this week with three debutants and a reclaimed leg-spinner as they prepare for the Bupa Sheffield Shield opener against the West End Redbacks in Adelaide from Friday.

South African-born opening batsman Marnus Labuschagne, 20, and Ben McDermott, 19, will make their debuts in the batting order for the Bulls, while 30-year-old leg-spinner Ryan Le Loux is set to make his first appearance for Queensland since 2006.

Former South Australian pace bowler Peter George is expected to make his first class debut for his new State after relocating during the winter to seek an opportunity with the Bulls after not being offered a contract by the SACA.

Labuschagne, a former Queensland Under-19 captain, played for Queensland in a one-dayer against the touring Scottish team last month, scoring 45, and has hit 504 runs at 41 so far this season for Redlands where he plays alongside Le Loux.

McDermott, whose brother Alister has been named in the squad as well, made his domestic one-day debut for Queensland on Friday in the Matador Cup elimination Final where the Bulls narrowly lost to NSW.

McDermott, who played for the Brisbane Heat in last year’s BBL, was an Australian Under-19 representative last year. He is currently playing for the Queensland Academy of Sport in the Toyota Futures League 2nd XI clash against the ACT in Canberra and will join the Bulls in Adelaide later this week.

If the McDermott brothers play on Friday, they will be the first set of siblings to turn out for Queensland since Ian and Ken Healy in the 1980s, and the first to play alongside each other since Ron and Ken Archer in the 1950s.

Le Loux has played two first class games for the Bulls, one in 2005 and the other in 2006, but has been a solidly consistent performer in Premier Grade cricket for the Tigers, including being a regular captain. A fine fielder, he was the substitute 12 man for Australia during the 2005-06 Gabba Test against the West Indies.

The Bulls are without Australian T20I representatives Ben Cutting, Cameron Boyce and Nathan Reardon for this match while Usman Khawaja (finger), Michael Neser (finger), Simon Milenko (ankle) and Ryan Harris were not considered.

Harris bowled competitively for the first time yesterday for Toombul in the my FootDr Premier Grade competition, taking 0-14 from seven overs.

Queensland will train from 10am to 12pm tomorrow at Allan Border Field, with players available between 9.15 and 9.30 am on request.

Bupa Sheffield Shield, Rd 1

my FootDr Queensland Bulls v West End Redbacks, Adelaide Oval, Fri Oct 31 – Mon Nov 3.
James Hopes (c), Joe Burns, Luke Feldman, Jason Floros, Peter Forrest, Peter George, Chris Hartley, Marnus Labuschagne, Ryan Le Loux, Ben McDermott, Alister McDermott, Nick Stevens. (12th man to be named).

How are the Redbacks looking this season 1910?

Is this shaping to be a long couple of days for the Bulls or are SA in a similar position?

Damn that is a rough looking Bulls side. Still got Burns, Forrest, Hopes and Hartley in the team so hopefully they can score some runs. Burns seems to like scoring tons against South Australia.

South Australia have improved last year, they finished equal second- Add Cosgrove and a side with Botha, Fergurson, Head and Cooper.

Klinger is a big loss though.

Wickets might be their issue but that's everyone's issue at the Oval.

Phillipson 128
McDermott 133no

Today for the Seconds.

Is Khawaja playing for the Bulls atm?

Hope he makes the most out of his talent and gets another shot at test cricket.

Broken hand and out for three more weeks.

Perception is a hard thing to break and he's viewed as lazy/runner and a bad fielder.

He is a terrible runner between wickets.

I think he's improved, his 182* last year was one of the best knocks by a Bulls' player I've ever seen and he rotated the strike and didn't just rely on boundaries.

Certainly improved his rotating of the strike. He is such a classy batsmen to watch.

This year’s Bupa Sheffield Shield points system will take on a slightly different look, with the most notable change that of the removal of first innings points, replaced with a with a bonus points system for runs and wickets in the first innings as part of a plan to develop players for the style and conditions of Test cricket.
2014-15 Bupa Sheffield Shield Points System:

Bonus Bowling – 1[SUP]st[/SUP] 100 overs – Maximum 1.5 (0.5 points for wickets 5,7,9)

Match Details:
My Foot Dr Queensland Bulls vs South Australian Redbacks
Adelaide Oval, Fri Oct 31 – Mon Nov 3. 10am start QLD time.

Lineups:

my Foot Dr Queensland Bulls:
James Hopes (c), Joe Burns, Luke Feldman, Jason Floros, Peter Forrest, Peter George, Chris Hartley, Marnus Labuschagne, Ryan Le Loux, Ben McDermott, Alister McDermott, Nick Stevens. (12th man to be named).

South Australian Redbacks:
Johan Botha (C), Tom Cooper, Mark Cosgrove, Callum Ferguson, Travis Head, Tim Ludeman, Andrew McDonald, Joe Mennie, Gary Putland, Sam Raphael, Chadd Sayers, Adam Zampa

The Bulls have called on young batsmen Marnus Labuschagne, 20, and Ben McDermott, 19 to make their first-class debuts, while paceman Peter George is set to make his first red ball appearance for the Bulls against his former state after an impressive Matador Cup campaign in which he picked up 11 wickets at an average of 24 and best of 5/39 taken against the

Redbacks.

Key Players:
Queensland’s batting line-up has been somewhat depleted through injury and players on national duty, with Chris Lynn, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Reardon and Ben Cutting all missing.

This will mean the likes of senior batsmen Peter Forrest and Joe Burns will be called upon to have big games. Both players had good Matador Cup campaigns scoring 240 runs at 48 and 278 at 46 respectively, while Forrest will be looking to capitalise on his superb 2013-14 season in which he scored 823 runs at 68.
With leg-spinner Cameron Boyce also missing on Australian T20 duty, all-rounder Jason Floros and 30-year-old leggie Ryan Le Loux could be called upon to bowl a lot of overs, with Le Loux set to play his first game for the Bulls since 2006.

Last Time They Met – Round 7, 2013-14 at The Gabba:

This match will be remembered fondly for Queensland fans after the Bulls chased down 471, the second highest fourth innings total in Australian first-class history, to claim a famous win.

Usman Khawaja struck a superb 182 not out to lead the Bulls to victory, a game that will also be remembered as Chris Hartley’s 100th first-class match for the state.

Milestones:

Amazingly this will be Queensland’s 700th and South Australia’s 800th Sheffield Shield matches.

Matador Cup Form:

The Bulls made the Matador Cup Preliminary Final, while the Redbacks had a forgettable campaign after winning just one game to finish last.
