Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris will step up his build-up to higher honours next week by playing for the Queensland Academy of Sport in their Toyota Futures League match against NSW at Allan Border Field. Harris was today named to play in the four-day game against the NSW 2nd XI after making his comeback from knee surgery earlier this month for Toombul in the my FootDr Premier Grade competition. Harris will play for Toombul again tomorrow against Valley at Ken Mackay Oval before joining the QAS in the game starting on Monday as his bowling workload is gradually increased. Harris will be joined in the comeback ranks by my FootDr Queensland Bulls allrounder Michael Neser who will make his return from a broken hand suffered during the recent Matador One Day Cup campaign. The QAS, which won the Futures League last season, opened their 2014-15 account in fine style yesterday with a 40-run win over the ACT in Canberra. University of Queensland batsman Michael Philipson enjoyed a Futures League debut to remember, scoring a century in each innings, and captaining the team to victory. English product Charlie Hemphrey, a late inclusion in the side this week, retains his spot while Australian Under-19 opening batsman Matthew Renshaw has been called into the squad. Hemphrey, 25, became a permanent resident of Australia earlier this month. Originally from Yorkshire, the off-spinning allrounder has played 2nd XI for Kent, Essex and Derbyshire. He has been a regular first grade player for Redlands and Toombul. Meanwhile Bulls and Brisbane Heat batsman Chris Lynn will make his return from an off-season shoulder operation for Toombul tomorrow. He will play as a batsman only as he builds strength in his shoulder.

Oh how I wish his name were actually Lasagna. I could have made so many cheesy puns =(

Friday 31 October 2014
Clear-eyed rookies and the steel of a gritty young veteran have delivered a exceptional fightback today for the my FootDr Queensland Bulls on the opening day of their Bupa Sheffield Shield campaign.
The Bulls clawed back from a horrendous hat-trick inspired 3-27 against the South Australian Redbacks to finish the day unbowed at 4-314 at stumps at the Adelaide Oval.
Debutant Marnus Labuschagne and fourth-gamer Nick Stevens combined with the ever-reliable Chris Hartley to turn the Bulls fortunes around in emphatic fashion, securing the team’s first points along the way under the new Shield points-scoring system that delivers bonus points for certain batting targets.
Stevens scored his maiden first class century to be 134 not out.
Labuschagne, 20, was unruffled as what had been a relatively stress-free opening gambit this morning suddenly went haywire as Redbacks quick Chadd Sayers became just the 10th South Australian to take a first-class hat-trick and the first since 1977.
The Redbacks’ swing bowler dismissed Joe Burns, debutant Ben McDermott and Peter Forrest in consecutive deliveries in the first session.
Sayers (3-40 from 21 overs) bowled Burns (14) with a superb inswinger.
He trapped first-class debutant McDermott, the youngest son of ex-Test great Craig McDermott, lbw with another in-dipper.
Sayers then produced a fine hat-trick delivery which swung in slightly before moving away off the pitch and Forrest, playing defensively, edged to wicketkeeper Tim Ludemann
But South African-born Labuschagne and fellow 20-year-old Stevens steadied the visitors.
They put on 99 for the fourth wicket, before Labuschagne fell for a composed 83.
Stevens, whose first class debut saw him injured on the first day while fielding and unable to bat ast year, had previously scored just 27 runs in his three games for the Bulls.
He trashed that record with style, batting with equal parts composure and skill, as he and Hartley piled on an unbeaten fifth wicket stand of 188.
Hartley is 80 not out and with news that Brad Haddin has injured himself in the Second Test against Pakistan, will have every reason to push on tomorrow.
The Bulls unveiled three debutants today – McDermott,Labuschagne and ex-Redbacks quick Peter George as well as recalling Ryan Le Loux to play his first game in a decade.

As much as I don't think it will happen, I'd love Hartley to get a test debut. Haddin's much better than Wade but he misses some chances, as we've seen in this Pakistan series.

Another Harts fighting 100.

Stevens 153*

4/365

100 number 8 for Harts.

Record 5th wicket stand for Queensland in Shield Cricket beating, Martin Love/James Hopes v Vic at Junc Oval back in 2003-04

Hartley just keeps on getting it done.
