Re: Pom Flees from Bath - Sam Burgess signs 3 year deal with South Sydney

The NRL won't offer financial assistance... But will allow them to sign Burgess on $500k/yr. Fucking joke. Not surprised but still fucking pissed off.

Isn't that about the same as what Parker is on?

What's the issue with him being put on the same wage?

Because $500k is massive unders. Fair enough if he's willing to take unders. But we potentially want to sign Te'o on a cheapish deal and the NRL moves to block it because it's below market rate?

This. They blocked a similar situation with the Eels when it came to signing Izzy from memory

although to be fair the Eels tried to register Folau for a can of coke and a mars bar in his first season.

This is complete BS though... if Burgess is going to have nearly $1 million in uncapped TPA's (his reported deal was nearly $1.5 million a season) then the NRL better get the microscope out and go over each one with a fine tooth comb to ensure that the meet the rules.

I.e. Souths can't have anything to do with securing the sponsorships

So the Warriors had to include Tomkin's transfer fee in the salary cap, but the Rabbitohs have the fee waived, and get a reduction on his actual paid value...

Let's sign Folau for a 2 million transfer fee and get him under the cap for 500k.

This is doable imo.....

Just let each club have one star player outside the cap. That way you get your Sam the Glam Burgess, Israel Folau the Money, Money Bill Williams and Ben Twomilliono to stay in the game and less salary cap bagging. If a Ricky Stuart would go and use that marque player option on a Dave Taylor, so be it, it would be his own fault but it would sure make our game more competitive in the market for the top end talent.

I've been a fan of this for a while now.

Certainly smells of the deal they tried to push through for Inglis. $190k IIRC. Only this time Crowe hasn't shot his mouth off on international television on how much Burgess is getting.

I'm all for having one player counted outside the cap, but it would create a shit storm for the NRL.

All of the top clubs will the ones that get all the talent because they have the most money. All of the weaker clubs are in debt and hanging on by a thread. They wouldn't be able to compete.

I can't see it ever happening.

I've been a fan of this idea for a while but the consequences for a club like ours could be devastating. Take our 2015 side, for example. Who would we make our exemption player? Milf? So some useless club with no decent players can offer Hunt or Parker a squillion and we can't get close to their offer.

This. So fucking much. If nothing else it's shows very clearly the bias that NSWRL has towards teams like roosters and Souths.

We want to sign teo? No can do.

Souths want to sign burgess? No problems at all boys, we'll just put him on massive unders. Happy days.

Because the wage he was on was massive unders, so him coming back and getting that deal is massive unders and that isn't fair.

It's not like he had signed on for this money after he had won the premiership and was pretty much undisputed best forward in that game, that deal was when he was one of the better forwards in the game but certainly not what he is now

You can't use that excuse. Otherwise the NRL could step in and say Hunt's $450k deal is unders. If a player is willing to play for a team for unders, then that's okay (so long as the third party deals are checked).

At least hunts contract actually increased.

What we are being asked to swallow is after becoming the games best forward and winning a premiership his market value didn't increase by even cent?

That's crap. If that's what he was on when he left the game to go an play another sport, what justification do they have to pay him anything more?

He left the game for an entire season.

You guys need to take your Broncos are hard done by glasses off, and realise how silly you sound. If you left your job for 12 months to go and do something that, while similar, isn't the job you did at your company, would you expect to get paid extra if you went back?

It's hard to imagine he has lost anything by a year in yawnion, especially given the position in both sports have fairly similar characteristics.

If anything his body has probably had a rest.

As to your analogy, damn straight I would expect to be paid more. Especially considering that just twelve months ago I was the absolute best in the world in my field and had won the largest award my sector has to offer. During my 12 month sebatical in a similar but different job I haven't lost anything that made me the best in my field and arguably have picked up additional skills and experience to bring back to the company, in which I am the best in my field.

So yeah I would want a pay rise.
