Bye Bye Bon Jovi

i just watched the ad (without sound so didnt hear the actual song) and had a facepalm at the shoulder charge in it haha.

"do as we say, not as we promote" i guess.

i think its a great ad (again, havent heard song so could change when i do lol), very slick. the new logo animation etc at the end looks awesome

Dont turn on the sound, stay in your happy place :)

If you could pick b4l, what would your song be?

Tough task really.

Roughly 47 seconds in from a Warriors player.

That's not a shoulder charge. He's got arms out, and is attempting to hit with the shoulder - like a good tackle is - it isn't a shoulder charge.

See I think this is the problem people are having. They don't actually know what a shoulder charge is.

It's pretty line ball, I don't think it was wise to use that shot.

Have to agree with you Coxy, that isn't a shoulder charge, and I really hope no one gets pinged for such an action this season!

I like the video, it's certainly much better than last year's. The music choice is fitting, although not my style...

Something rock.

Welcome to the jungle - gunners
My hero - do fighters
There would be heaps others IMO that would be way better.

Anything that wasn't sung by mauboy would have been better IMHO

I agree it is a good tackle, but that's not the point. He didn't get his arms around so by the definition of the new stupid rules it IS a shoulder charge, intent is redundant

While I would prefer those songs b4l don't you think they're a little dated and would only target those who are already converted to the game?

Eh? I haven't seen the definition of the "new stupid rules" specifically, but my understanding is that it's only penalised if you're not intending to make a "legitimate" tackle. That example he was trying to make a tackle. First contact being with the shoulder does not a shoulder charge make.

That could be true but I am probably in the minority of people who could care less about getting people to 'convert'. If people need mauboy to convince to watch league I really don't think they will being hanging around as supporters anyway. Anyone that responds with "ermehgerd Jessica mauboy is like totes defs the best singer, this song is so rocking" is gonna watch a game for about 5 minutes before they get bored and return to being a douche.

Love the video though

I think the tackle is line ball and it wasn't until I freeze framed it that I could get a sense that Mannering overtly involved his arm in the tackle. Very much like the GI tackle in the All-Stars game IMO.

b4l, don't you think the game should be doing every bit they can to expand their audience? It's not that Mauboy is the deciding factor, it's that she might open their eyes to the game and present it in a way that appeals to their family.

I understand it might not be the best choice of song, 'Levels' doesn't do a lot for me either but it's fairly recognizable and it's vague enough to still apply to the game.

Saw the ad earlier today during one of my breaks. It isn't the best Rugby League ad by any means but it's a definite improvement from the Bon Jovi campaign that was average at best. Good to see the game being promoted as one for the family. Maulboy seems to be passionate about it and that is a bonus on some of the last campaigns.

I really hate the song, like really hate it. When they announced that that thing was going to be the new singer I knew it would be something awful like that and as usual they don't disappoint.

What do you mean by "that thing"?

Aye, I admitted as much later on. I got it wrong but I maintain that they could have used a better example. In fact, they should have used a few more tackles in the promotion given how much 'hold on me' is used in the lyrics.

Are you suggesting more footage of wrestling.........more grapple tackles

the dreaded chicken wing?

It goes to show but, that the "big hits" (or at least the "big hits" the modern era goes ape shit for) are now considered most likely a SC. Highlight packages for the last couple years have almost been extensively made up of shoulder charges.

At least with the new rule we will get footage of big tackles.........real tackles

not cheap shot barges.
