Bloke in his 20s has a drink. Lock him up I reckon.
Is there a reason they are not allowed to drink while injured? Is it just club policy or is there another reason for it?
I just don't get why a few beers is not allowed.
Obviously partying till your legless would not be a good idea, but a few beers seems fine to me.
Because drinking affects recovery from injuries.
It would have a big impact if its something you did on a regular basis. Probably in a situation like this i doubt long term its going to be a big deal. Talking to my wife about it ( who used to work for a surgeon who was the Broncos go to specialist ) in this instance it probably wouldnt make much of a difference. Its the accumulative effect of the alcohol thats the issue. Its still not a smart thing to do though.
It's really a nothing incident, it's just horrible timing giving the shit storm, not that Pat knew it at the time.It would have a big impact if its something you did on a regular basis. Probably not. I don't think enough is really known to know definitively whether or not it would actually affect recovery time.
But if you let it go unpunished, you're just opening the door for shit to go wrong.

It's really just a bit silly to be drinking in public straight after an injury, and unprofessional, but he's a young guy, no biggie, play on.
I wonder if this makes the media if we're winning...
Bad weekend to do it really. I wonder how he got dobbed in though, did a random punter just creepily take photos of players minding their own business or did one of the boys drink with him and was stupid enough to upload it to insta. Can you ask him at brekky tomorrow?I was expecting it to be a major incident when i saw the boozy broncos headline.

Will do
In all seriousness, it does appear there is somebody out there following these blokes around and they would have to know the club rules on things. Its not like he was making a scene that would attract attention like when our other two were having a scuffle.
Just tell Patty to do cocaine on camera next time, he will get off with a warning and wont miss any games and im 100% certain cocaine wont impact his recovery time.
Easy to down play it because in the grand scheme of things it’s nothing but any good coach will tell you cutting corners off the field directly reflects your performance on it. It’s like pulling up a few inches short of the line in a drill - who cares right? A good coach makes you do it again.
Like Benji said about Milf - if everyone does 10 reps Milford will do 8.
It’s the principal. If the rule was don’t wear a hat while injured then don’t wear a hat. These are the fine details that create a winning culture regardless of the little to no long term impact “3 beers” would have on recovery.
I’m not even questioning Patty’s professionalism but if he can have 3 beers while injured than so can a guy like Staggs.
Hang on, he was drinking on the night he got injured right? And a knee injury at that? Not the same knee as his last one but I am guessing he wouldn't have known the exact prognosis at that stage and possibly feared it could have been worse. I can forgive a guy for just wanting to chill and have a beer or two in those circumstances.
Me either, I have sympathy for the guy. But team rules are no drinking when injured. He could have stopped at the bottle-o on the way home, but went to the pub instead.
Rules have got to be black and white, not grey, as @theshed said a few comments up. Particularly from one of the leadership group at the club - he more than anyone should be following the rules to the letter.
I'm not angry at him, I'm just disappointed...
