Re: Rumour - Daly Cherry-Evans to Brisbane Broncos

If we manage to sign DCE is anyone questioning how we can fit him under the cap with the arrivals of Barba, Milford and the possibility of Smith plus the players we've currently got like Parker and Hodges?.

Would force him back to the bench at the Broncos but won't necessarily ruin his career. He is a good player and there would be a few clubs willing to sign him if he was on the market.

I don't think media speculation of us signing smith takes up cap space. I'm sick of people saying we must be rorting the cap because of smith. we'd get one or the other not both.

Re: Rumour - Daly Cherry-Evans to Brisbane Broncos

This is the most frustrating thread on BHQ with all the bumps.

Ahhh these bumps are so frustrating.

Excitement and disappointment all in the space of a second (depending on your internet connection)

Just so ya'll know, the thread title will be updated should there be any news regarding DCE joining the Broncos.

That means you don't need to get your hopes up when you see that the thread has new posts... unless it also has a new title!

Sounds confusing......

Daly Cherry-Evans could be on top of the Brisbane Broncos' recruitment list. The revolution at Red Hill won't start with Cameron Smith after all. It could be a blessing in disguise if the club successfully directs its energy at what surely must be the new prime target. Come on down, Daly Cherry-Evans.
Smith, the wonderful Queensland and Australian captain, will finish his rugby league career with the Melbourne Storm after months of umming and ahhing about his future destination.
It was a momentous contract decision for Smith, the last he will have to make in the Australian game, at least. Deservedly, as was for Lockyer and others of his ilk, Smith will play an entire career in the one club jumper.
How close Smith came to becoming a Bronco remains a matter of conjecture. As the club's chief executive Paul White told Fairfax Media last week, the organisation doesn't conduct its recruiting business in the public domain.

Speculation of megabucks and record-breaking contracts remain just that. Was there smoke? Of course. But the fire broke out in Melbourne, so the argument may as well go up in flames.
Smith is a brilliant player and unrivalled statesman when it comes to the execution and promotion of rugby league. He remains the go-to guy for comment on issues central to the code and will most likely be remembered as the greatest hooker to ever grace the field.
That being said, he may not have been the ideal fit to a Broncos organisation currently trying to regenerate its roster and recapture the days when it seemed to be a perennial grand final contender.
Andrew McCullough continues to grow as a player and is worth investing in as a club. He made 52 tackles against the Bulldogs without missing a beat. He's been a project player for Anthony Griffin but the returns are arriving.
It's the halves in which Brisbane must invest (with the greatest respect to Ben Hunt). Anthony Milford stands to be the solution at five-eighth when he arrives next season. Beyond that, give the piggy bank to Cherry-Evans, as well as the loose change behind the couch.
The Manly halfback ticks almost every box the Broncos could imagine. He's a superstar player, a Queensland kid, about to hit the prime of his career and has the kind of Golden Boy marketing appeal that Brisbane desperately need in the post-Lockyer void.
His deal with the Sea Eagles takes him until the end of 2015 but that doesn't seem to mean a great deal these days, given the way players are finding reasons to escape clauses and contracts.
He's not the Queensland or Australian halfback but that doesn't mean he's not the best number seven in the game. If he isn't, it's only a matter of time before he usurps Maroons teammate Cooper Cronk for that honour.
White was cagey when he spoke to Fairfax last week, avoiding all talk of individuals - Smith and Cherry-Evans included - but said the club would be aggressive and active if the right man came on the market.
He's not yet up for grabs but Cherry-Evans stands out as the obvious purchase. They might have to sell a few cattle from the farm but the lure of premiership number seven, guided by an attacking core of DCE, Barba and Milford, would make any collateral damage worth the price.

I'll bet anyone $100 we will not sign DCE.

Couldn't have said it better myself

With Smith out of our reach, I'd seriously just throw $1M+ at DCE w/ captaincy and pray for a miracle.

And it would be worth it IMO.

Yeah, I agree. While I don't think he'll ever be Smith's level, he's now the most valuable player "available", and someone our side desperately needs.
