DCE backflips to stay at Manly

Taking hunt completely out of the equation for a second, we clearly have been watching a different DCE over the last 18 months, because aside from the odd game here and there against weak opposition he has not looked like the player or displayed the form that got him into the origin squad originally.

Now taken DCE out of the equation I fail to see how Michael Morgan is a better alternative to hunt off the bench

1 - You are correct. Hunt is playing great. But he's not the better player yet. When he has fixed the little issues, and has more than 1 good kicking game a year, then he might be ready for the big stage.

3 - So he should. Because DCE is the best option for Halfback.

That is your opinion Nashy and as it's Big Mal's too you might even be right :)

But my opinion is, by and large, he has been playing below standard, and Mal has picked him not on current form but on past form and loyalty

But I won't call you mental for your opinion, and you shouldn't call others mental for theirs

DCE is the superior player although Hunts very recent form has been better. Having two great kickers in the Origin team does make Hunts slightly inferior kicking game less important . Hunt is a good kicker but not yet great. In recent months Hunt has put in quite a mix with below average, average and excellent games this season and truthfully ,DCE has been much the same. Forwards win you matches and give halves a chance and DCE hasn't been getting any help there. Hunt wasn't winning us games either when we were getting beaten in the forwards last year. Hunts time will come but at the moment I totally support the DCE selection ahead of him.

Hunt must maintain his form and improve his kicking game and also his 5 th tackle options need to be consistently better. He must become a little general who takes control ( making up for his runty stature ha ha ) of his team and on occasion ,singlehandedly win a game for the Broncos when under the pump. These are things DCE has done in the past. There is a valid reason why he was the centre of a public and private bidding war. I think we should support him in the maroon and boo his arse when Manly show up in their all too similar gear !

You're right.

Porthoz IS mental, though.

Five-eights are rarely just second receivers these days so they are definitely interchangeable in a lot of cases. Not needing to be able to kick consistently well is not a BS cop out excuse because he would have two of the best kickers ever playing alongside him meaning he could be a very good third option kicker. Kicking is the only thing DCE has done better than Hunt over the last 1.5 years. Hunt's defense and running game shits all over anything DCE has shown since 2014.

Many people seem to think Milford to fullback, Hunt to five-eight and Ash Taylor to half is a viable option for the Broncos. I would like to hope you're one of those who argue that Hunts abilities don't transfer to five-eight next time that discussion is had.

DCE has a lot of things to work on too, like being able to win games for his team like Hunt did pretty often last year. I'm sure that loyalty to a player who has been there more often in the past isn't the reason why Hunt "didn't get a look in", right?

Based on this years form, no doubt, Hunt looks like the better player. Doesn't mean he's the best player for the job, as I've discussed a lot.

The discussion has been done to death. I don't need to talk about his skills being transferred, because my ideal Broncos team is one where Ashley Taylor plays for another team (because there is no space for him here), Boyd is FB, Hunt is HB, and Milford is 5/8. But that's a discussion for another thread. I also think those many people are wrong, but that's fine, I could be too.

Of course the loyalty was part of the reason he was picked. It's one of the major differences between the QLD side of the past 10 years and the NSW side. We are a team that has worked together for years, while NSW pick a new team year in year out.

If you're happy to throw someone unerdone like Hunt into origin, with the risk that comes with it, then that's fine. I'd prefer not to, and leave it until next year when he's sorted his game out.

As for DCE. I think he's a better halfback through and through. Do I think in a year or so that will be the case? Absolutely not.

When both are playing at their best.....DCE comes out the classier player IMO.

QLD is well known for giving someone a job to do, regardless of form, because they have faith in the player. They believe in his potential.

I hope DCE has a blinder and shuts a lot of ***** up.

....and if one QLD'r boos him during game 2, I'll fucken spew. I'm sadly tipping it to happen....there will be some idiotic part of the QLD crowd that will have bitten into this media driven feeding frenzy and they'll start giving it to Cheery Evans

Morons......they'll give NSW ammo to put shit on us for years.

At least we can say it happened in Melbourne. (won't count....not really a QLD crowd etc etc.
Yes....I'm preparing my defense already)

I remember when Origin jerseys were earned with form and not who was better 2 years ago and snagged a spot so they have to be loyal to them. Nobody is denying that so far in their careers when at their best DCE was better. But DCE hasn't been at his best for a long time now.

I won't boo DCE when he's wearing a maroon jersey but I won't be cheering him on either. I don't hope he wins the game for us in the last minute because I hope QLD win by 30. I have my reasons for not liking DCE and they started well before he reneged on the Titans.

I think people are overlooking DCE's form a bit. They see Manly doing shit and assume DCE is too, but in reality without DCE Manly wouldn't have won a single game. Take a look at either of their wins against the Storm and you will see he was easily the best on ground.

Which isn't necessarily to say that Hunt isn't playing even better. But I feel it's a fallacy that DCE is playing poorly.

TBH...I think it's a fallacy that Hunt has been playing that good.....all year. Last couple rounds, sure. Before that, mehhh.

I think DCE has been playing poorly (or at least nowhere near the form of two years ago or near the form some believe he is) because I watch him play not because of his teams ladder position.

He drifts in and out of games. He is a down hill skier. When his side is dominating he will be in everything and look great, however if they are struggling he cruises and puts on a highlight here and there but doesn't try to get involved the whole 80. This is why I think he struggles at rep level

This. He's not been setting the world on fire up until the past couple of months. Which just shows he's not ready as a player yet.

So what was he doing last year? or was that B. Hunt in the 7 jersey last year carrying us throughout the year actually Bron Hunt? cool name if true

I hate using the Dally M's....but,

2014 - Dally M Halfback Of The Year

Apparently he's been shit for the last 2 years???

If you're using the Dally Ms... Dont use positional awards ... Use the overall count.

And in the overall count Hunt finished higher than DCE.

But i do understand. Using the positional awards is better for your argument
