POST GAME Finals Week 3 - Storm vs Broncos

Such a disappointing game. We had so many chances, storm were gifting us that first half and we just no idea what to do, like literally none. Forwards trying to barge over from 10 out, horrible backline movements and milfords inability to tell players where to go and what to do.

How the hell Boyd stayed on for that long is beyond me and what's with Milford just going MIA. Him and Niko just looked so amateurish in attack.

Losing 30 nil in a prelim is a disgrace, quite simply unacceptable. We can do better than that.

I think the only player that can hold their head high after that game is Alex Glenn, great game. As for the rest, bog average. And Moga, far out where to start.

Sounds harsh I know but gee, we could have done a little better. It's going to be a long off season with plenty of team lists haha.

Agreed with all this. Our biggest failings all season were laid bare last night - too many injuries to key players, brain fades, poor 5th tackle options and options in the attacking 20m. We were still good enough to make the final 4, not good enough to beat the best team. The game was gone after 60 minutes and the last few tries came from us chasing points.

I won't miss watching Moga and Blair play next year.

I think we only made the top 4 because all the teams except Melbourne were worse than they could have been too. A team that makes as many errors as us and has no direction in attack is just making up the numbers

I would have loved for Isaako to have been Boyd's replacement througout the finals. He seems like a real competitor. He would have been a bit a bit of an unknown for our opposition also.

I reckon the score did reflect the difference between the 2 teams.

Our defence kept us in it, together with flashes of good ball play. Thing is, flashes don't cut it at this level against a side coached to execute effective running attacking plays and brick wall defence.

As others have observed, we haven't really cut it against the best sides this year consistently, and for mine, it is 100% a coaching issue - 2015 is the proof of that

Good summation.

I've been a staunch supporter of both, trying to see / focus on their best, but Moga lost me last night with his refusal to pass one too many times.

Blair was great in '15, good in '16 and first bit of '17 and has been on a downward slide since.

I feel we probably got his best out of him and appreciate his efforts, but think his best is behind him - a good time to part ways.

It isn’t that we don’t win every game that upsets so many people, it’s the manner in which we lose. Idiotic school boy errors consistently and nothing changes. Our mental fragility whenever things get a bit tough. All the rubbish talk about turning things around and whatnot off the field and then they go out and do the exact same goddamn thing next week. No structure in attack, constant refusal to use our most potent attacking weapons. Repeated poor efforts and there is no accountability for it. Coaching staff that come out and say they are happy with the effort when we get smashed by 30 or 40 or 50 points...

We might have finished 3rd, but we are going backwards as a team, not forwards.

For 60 minutes, Brisbane made Melbourne as nervous as I'd seen them all season. The up-tempo play, the tit for tat in the ruck and the desperate goal line defence it was tremendous but they just couldn't execute. You could tell Melbourne took a lot of confidence out of that 0 scoreline and once Slater scored it was all over.

Sadly the Broncos thought so as well and left us with a horrible final impression. Those efforts right at the death weren't good enough and it was disgraceful the way they just handed Melbourne points.

I thought the backrow was tremendous. Gillett, Glenn and McGuire were everywhere and really stuck it to the Melbourne forwards. Even after the disappointment of the evening, I couldn't help but admire and be proud of their efforts on the field. Seriously if the selectors have any brains, all three will feature for their respective nations in the World Cup. As others have stated, for a guy who was on the chopping block not that long ago, Alex Glenn has been just about the Broncos best player this year.

Otherwise you just have to hand it to Melbourne. They've got this combination that's endured 17 seasons together (since their Norths colts day) and Bellamy gets all the others to buy into this system that flows like a machine. I haven't seen a Storm side play this well since 2007 and I've got no doubt they'll go onto win the premiership.

Alex Glenn is all heart. Probably one of our smallest forwards but he absolutely charges into the opposition even if he gets belted. Our young bench forwards do the same, it's just such a shame that Herman is leaving because that trio of Ese E, Joe O and T Peng had the makings of something pretty damn gangster.

Reason not too upset today is partially that Melbourne are just too good this year (although wouldn't be shocked if they choked at last hurdle like tried to do last night - expect them to learn however). If your team tries hard, has a good attitude and shows some signs of intelligence you can deal with that.

Other reason is just sick of it. They just don't learn from their mistakes or change their game to suit their players' talents I.e. Roberts. Or they find something that works and stop doing it. Injuries are a problem but you find a way to adapt, other top teams find a way. What is the management culture like? Can no one question the status quo?

The thing I found most frustrating is that our game plan in attack was either "barge a forward over the line" or "pass it to Moga" ffs. Moga was marked by chambers, why on earth weren't they trying to isolate Gillett and the jet over on Scott and Addo Carr? It was INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING to watch. Really dumb footy.

I did love our forwards effort though, None of them deserved to lose that game.

11 years without a premiership, it's not funny anymore. I blame origin for a lot of it, changes need to be made to the way it's handled until we can really get the best out of our team.

This is what I've said a few times to mates etc.
I also touched on this in the 2017 review thread, our attacking structure needs an overhaul. Same one out running is predictable resulting in loss of momentum.

The thing that dissapoints me the most is that Melbourne absolutely shit the bed in the first 41 minutes. They dropped bombs, the bombed certain try's, the gave away 7 tackle sets, they did things that melbourne just don't do. They tried there best to give us he game and we just couldn't do it. It's not like they choked us out of it with perfect footy we actually had a red hot shot and didn't take it.

Honestly that game was there too be won. That really hurts, as a supporter that really really hurts.

Could not agree more. We were given an absolute gift - how many times have the Storm played like that against us?

To not even register a point and implode after 60 minutes.. I don't even know what to say.
