GORDEN Tallis has fired yet another shot across Wayne Bennett’s bow in a brutal assessment of his former coach’s behaviour around the Queensland coaching job.
Tallis delivered an extraordinary spray of Bennett on The Late Show With Matty Johns when asked whether Kevin Walters would be turfed from his role as Queensland coach if the Maroons lose the series decider.
Speculation that supercoach Bennett is sniffing around Walters’ job has refused to go away, despite Bennett’s own claims that his current post with the English national side will be his last in representative football.
In any case, Tallis’ response to the scuttlebutt and Bennett was spectacular, and a pointed shot at his one-time premiership coach as their frosty relationship cooled another few degrees.

“If they get Wayne back Queensland has made a step backwards,” Tallis said.
“We’ve gone backwards if Wayne Bennett comes back in to coach.
“He’s not there anymore, he’s past it.”

Tallis was asked to clarify whether he meant Bennett was “past it” in terms of coaching an Origin side, and he responded “yes”.
Tallis continued his spray by linking Bennett’s supposed interest in the Queensland job to a desire to get one over former Maroons coach and now-Australian mentor Mal Meninga.
“Because Wayne Bennett wants to coach Queensland, and Mal has (coached Queensland), and there’s a bit of jealousy right because Wayne wants to be known as the best,” Tallis said.
“It was jealousy over Mal, then Wayne wanted the Australian job and Mal got the Australian job so (Bennett) wanted the next best.

The panel was also asked whether Laurie Daley should forfeit his role as NSW coach if the Blues lose another series under his command.
Daley’s coaching contract expires after next week’s decider and he’s yet to confirm whether he’ll put his hand up for the job again or fade into the sunset.
“I think it’s Laurie’s for the next couple of years if he wants it. The big question is does Laurie want it?” show host Matty Johns said.
“He is making sounds that he’s just about had enough, whether Laurie goes into clubland or not I don’t know.”

Fox are paying him good money then for an apparent one trick pony. His comments about Bennett are tiresome but it doesn't affect the results on the field and as a Bronco fan, that's all that matters to me.
