"Hoffy isn't the guy for Fullback" - Hodges

Hoffman is a very very good player and has been unbelievably brave in all games he has played for the Broncos - he has done some amazing things out on the paddock - scored some fantastic tries - saved just as many if not more by putting his body on the line - YES that is what he gets paid for but he - maybe with his old man whispering in his ear - has a bee in his bonnet about playing anywhere except fullback.
Yes as Hodges said he does lack some ability in his passing game and a couple of other areas but overall he has been a great servent for our club.
He maybe now a bit confused - misguided and upset that Barba and Milford are at the club now and he may be punted to the wing again but surely the management of the Broncos have spoken to him about
Maybe someone from outside the Broncos - not his father or relation - needs to have a serious sit down with the young lad and tell him a few home truths about life - we can't always get what we want in life but we can sure make the most of what we have right here and now.
Surely he must be starting to understand that there is a problem with his game as he has now been dropped fro the NZ team but I guess being pumped up by the bulldogs players telling him he is sensational etc will swell his head and so on it goes
Maybe Gee should get Bennett to have a good talk to him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about life

Hoffman's dad should just but out of his son's battles with the Broncos everything he said was pure dribble.

I don't get it, he could just look at JYY at his own club and that should help him appreciate the fact he's playing any position in the team.

If Milford has said clause in his contract why hasn't he bothered to take Canberra to court to get an early release? Also if Milford is homesick and wants to be by his dad's side why doesn't he simply tell Canberra he is going to sit out season 2014. That's why I don't necessarily have a problem with Canberra not releasing him early. The issue is at Milford's end not Canberra.

I feel for Canberra as in the past they took action against the likes of Carney, Dugan and Fergo because their behaviour was reproachable. Instead if the NRL backing the club, saying the players' behaviour was not acceptable an punishing the players by not allowing them to be registered for the life of their terminated contract, the NRL did nothing. I think that's poor from the NRL.

100% agree that a player throwing a tantrum and wanting an early release because the competition within the player's current team is high is not a valid reason for the player to be released early from his contract.

There is a clause in the contract ... Canberra have admitted as much, the Raiders don't feel as if the conditions have been met, while Milfords management do.

The reason it hasn't ended up in court yet is that it is not in either parties best interest for this to be settled in a legal action.

The wording of the clause is the issue, and IMO it doesn't fully favour either side, or it would have been settled by now.

Milford may still sit out the 2014 season, but there is no need to rush into things. i'm sure the issue will get sorted in due time.

We know there is a clause. We don't know its exact contents, but we know the spirit of it. May or may not be enough for the courts and by the looks of it, they are trying to avoid taking it that far.

Don Furner is a **** with form when if comes to player contracts, so absolutely nothing would surprise me coming from that POS.
Regardless of the NRL is to blame or not, they're taking a stance against a homesick kid who wants to be closer to his ill dad, and is willing to earn less money to do so.

Anyway, this thread is about Hoffman, and the situations deserve no comparison!

You must have missed Milford's only official statement on all this, published just 2 days ago...

Direct quote taken from the only official interview with Milford himself:

Milford has twice told Canberra hierarchy he has no intention of returning, even spurning a three-year, $2.1 million contract extension.

Personally, i think that the Broncos will end up releasing Hoffman if he really wants to go. but they wont do it while he is away at the world cup. they will wait until he is back in Brisbane so they can have a talk with him first.

Although, i expect they will only release him if they receive compensation from the club he goes to (similar to the Bulldogs situation with Barba). so lets have a look at the clubs that are reportedly chasing Hoffman.

Cronulla - Have no money, nothing really they can offer us (no deal)

Canberra - Should only release him to the Raiders if they let Milford go for 2014

Titans - Not sure why the would want him considering Cartwright has repeatedly said Zillman is their long term fullback. (should have the money to pay compensation)

Bulldogs - Have the money we paid to get Barba, professionally handled the Barba situation (plus it appears to be Hoffmans first choice)

Hoffman most definitely won't go to the Sharks as Michael Gordon is their first choice fullback.

Signing at the other clubs is a possibility as one has a vacant fullback spot, another has a fullback which isn't to much and the other would just want revenge on the Broncos. The Bulldogs is the best bet as he has friendships with the Kiwi members of the Bulldogs and they have a vacant spot.

I can see the Broncos straight up letting Hoffman go on 'compassionate grounds', no reason to force someone to play for us if they don't want to and will end up be somewhere else, we are not the raiders (cheap shot) :P. In the end it is Hoffman, as a fullback he is expendable, especially since we have signed Barba. As a winger though, he is top notch but if he takes the Norman path "I want this position bla bla bla", then Vidot has his spot by default, no questions asked, unless hook wants Maranta lol. There are plenty more wingers who would love to give 100% every game(unlike Hoffman, another cheap shot) just to get a shot at NRL aswell. If Hoffman thinks he is Mr Bronco to choose where he plays, he is VERY mistaken. TBH Hodges is the only guy in the Bronco squad who should have his say in preferred position, if he wanted to play FB for the rest of his career, let him, he may only last 5 games but its up to him, he has earned it. As FB Hodges may have passing game equal to Hoffman but at least he will be effective in his attack. You would think Hodges would of spoken this to Hoffman before just popping this in the media? I don't know who Hoffman thinks he is but in the end he is no where near the guy with a skill level to be the mighty Brisbane Broncos fullback.

P.S. My misses cooks amazing chicken parmigiana

Hook and Gee with all Hoffmans mucking around and basically shunning his nose at the club that employs him could and may do exactly what the did to Norman with about 5 or 6 games to go last year and they can and do have the power to simply say to Hoffman - go play for Redcliffe until you mend your ways - apologise and show us you want to play for us again and when you do WE and only WE will determine IF and WHEN YOU can come back into first grade and in the position WE want you to play in - if you don't conform then stay at Redcliffe and kool your heels - good way to teach him a lesson and the broncos dont need the salary cap money for another 12 months anyway so they really don't have to release him to go anywhere

Lets not be stupid about this, that is something Furner and the Raiders would do. Being vindictive like that because a player has "hurt our feelings" is not the Bronco way.

Once he gets back from the world cup and the coaching staff have had a chance to talk to him and if he still wants a release, we should just negotiate a release fee from the club that wants him (most likely the Bulldogs) and move on. Thats what is best for all involved.

Maybe hoffman's big head might deflate a bit after not being picked in the kiwi side tonight. I've got to say he is a better winger then nightingale and would probably go better then Goodwin or whare in the centre's but I reckon it's great. Might bring him back down to earth.

Love the way slater sniffs around Corey when he hits up, just created a half chance. Something hoffman has never done
Haha won't have to worry about that next year mate. Benny Barba should be all over that. He is just faster then slater

Yeah agreed, I hope they just release him. What I reckon would be funny though would be the reaction though if we didn't and played him in reserves cos I reckon the same commentators that are saying the raiders shouldn't release Milford would be saying how evil we are for not releasing poor josh
