"Hoffy isn't the guy for Fullback" - Hodges

With all the Twitter activity I would say Hoffman wants a release from the Broncos to join the Bulldogs in 2014. Whilst I think the Broncos should stand firm and make Hoffman see out the remaining two years of his contract, I personally don't think his possible departure is that significant. Barba is a better offensive fullback and i would say is equal to Hoffman in his defensive skills. Add to that Hoffman's lack of creative ball playing skills and offensive support play (which in my view effectively rules him out as a credible half or centre option) means Hoffman is at best a good wing option for the club, which is a position the Broncos have many other options (Reed, Vidot, Copley, Yow Yeh, Mills, Maranta, Drew and even Oates). His departure in my opinion wouldn't be a particularly significant loss. That said I ideologically oppose any early release.

I think if he's really unhappy, they should just release him. Yeah, it's not a "valid" a reason as Milford or Barba, but things change and keeping unhappy players at the club is just going to leave a sour kind of feeling.

This was my view the first time it happened, but for it to happen again, and even more obviously with Morris in the pic, tells me he's purposely playing games.

I haven't popped my top though! I'm keen to see how this all unravels.

I dunno, maybe I am naive or I just take things at face value too easily. I just don't think he's thinking "**** the broncos" when he's in those pics.

It's nice that he wants to play fullback but he's had 3 years to cement that role and he hasn't done it (and it's not Brisbane's fault that he hasn't, Mr "I didn't put in 100%").

Spot on, Brent81. Absolutely nailed it with that point. If Hoffman had of made a go of it at fullback, Barba wouldn't have been signed.

I was always a bit sceptical of Hoffman. Even in his rare purple patches I think the likes of Lockyer made him look better than he was.

Hoffman is a great player and could be one of the best in the game, it just isn't at fullback where he is only pretty good as opposed to wing where he is great.

We could make a bold move and release Hoffman on compassionate grounds to not hold him back from what he wants and as a result, we take an even higher moral ground on the Milford issue. If it doesn't work, we essentially only lose a decently paid and unhappy winger trapped in a fullback's mindset of which we have plenty of cover anyway.

2 Hoffman articles a day before this gets solved. I think Im gonna have to end myself if this keeps up

You could just not read the sports section

No he isn't, but he wants to piss the Broncos off & make them release him & it's not going to happen.

This reminds me of the way the bulldogs fans treated Barba. Lets just thank him for his great footy where he won 3 broncos back of the year awards in 4 years, thank him for the wonderful service, and wish him luck.

But Wallace who wasn't as good of a player as Hoffman should have been thrown under the bus and copped non stop abuse?

I think if we get Milford for next year which seems unlikely we will release Hoffman early. If not we will make him play out the remaining year of his contract.

I have to agree with this point. Don't get me wrong I agree that moving on from Wallace was definitely the right move, but he always gave his all right until the last game, he's all was just never that good. In addition to that he really was shafted by the club saying "oh yeah your totally part of our plans" and then when the other offers are gone they say "you're gone"

Anyway my point is no one saw a problem with the abuse Wallace copped on here, yet Hoffman has been basically spitting on the jersey because he's an average fullback yet if we say anything against him we are arseholes?!?

To me, it sounds like his dad has been in his ear all year about what his rights should be. That creates a very confusing headspace. Just another instance of a dad living vicariously through their children's success. His dad would do well to take a step back and think about what truly is in his sons best interests before he does any more damage to his career.
I think this old prick needs to pull his fucking uneducated head in & avoid creating animosity or a rift between Hoffman & his team mates that could become irreparable. He is only embarrassing his son & damaging his future at the club.
I believe hodgo was spot on with his comments, but maybe should not have aired them through the media.
People seem to think social media is a way to say anything they like about anybody with no repercussions, I think it was pretty gutless for this old **** to attack hodgo online, & guarantee he wouldn't have the balls to confront him man to man.
As far as I am concerned I agree with other posters Hoffman is a winger & we have that position pretty well covered.
i don't use twitter,Facebook etc, so I am not sure if Hoffman has condemned his old mans rantings or not.
If not it gives a pretty good insight to the type of person he is & we don't need that.
imo, on yer bike fucker. You will never be bigger than this club.

I really hope the Broncos don't cave into any demands from Hoffman for an early release and the club make him see out the final two years of his contract. Failure to do so by the Broncos would demonstrate the club's management to be weak and will set a dangerous precedent. Respect to Canberra for making Milford see out his contract. The NRL should support the clubs more by not sanctioning early releases.

Bloody hell, that article puts things into context. I'd forgotten about a couple of those instances. The world 'petulance' comes to mind. It is a shame that it's being played out in the media..

It was very interesting article. It's funny cos a few things there like the comments about Kearney I thought at the time that it really wasn't good

Respect to Canberra for not releasing a kid that is homesick, has an ill father he wants to be with, and had a clause inserted in his contract for that very purpose (albeit the wording may not support him entirely)?
Respect for Canberra for sacking / releasing Carney, Dugan and Fergo once they started playing up, allowing them to move on to other clubs and bigger/better things?

Releasing players for compassionate reasons is not a show of weakness, it's a demonstration of values. I don't like them much, but the way the Dogs handled the Barba affair was excellent, and it is how we should handle Hoffman. Until such time he moves on to another club, breach him, fine him, but don't give him what he wants on a platter!

Btw, throwing a tantrum because you're not given your preferred spot in the team, does not constitute compassionate reasons!

I love Locky, but seriously, there's no point listening to a word he says when it comes to the Broncos. He's just a sycophant.
I don't think that's very fair Coxy. I don't see why Locky needs to suck up to anyone at the Broncos, he is a legend in his own right!
