'Homesick' Ben Hannant may quit Bulldogs

Way to twist how people feel.

The general feeling is that a player needs to consider their love for the club when doing contracts. $50,000 more at say the Bulldogs should not mean as much as playing at a club you love.

Maybe, maybe not. I'm not going to begrudge anyone earning an extra $50K anywhere, especially in a business where your earning capacity can cease at any given moment

Not every player is a fan of the club they play for though.

I reckon Hannant probably got 100K more at the Bulldogs than he would have at the Broncos. From his perspective, it was only sensible to move south.

That's roughly what I've heard too ning. I think anyone would be mad not to take a 50% pay rise if they could get it.

Yes, however showing Loyalty to a club increases the chance of that club offering you a position after you retire. Or look at Marsh. Playing Qcup could have said at anytime "I want out" but he didn't and he stuck it with the club. Now the club is gonna help him with medical cost if he ran to another club then retired chances are they would say no.

*response to meat*

Realistically how many players get a position with a club after they retire? 5%? 10%?

and then how many of that 5%/10% Showed loyalty to that club?

It may not be a high number that get a position there but if you jump ship for 50g your blowing ya chances.

Bring Back Benny, we need him plus as others have said we should get him at a reasonable price.

why would anybody want to see SBW in a Broncos jersey?? He is injured more than Hodges!!. Also I'd prefer to keep Te'o and Michaels they actually want to play for the Broncos Hannant just wants to play where the $ are... I want players who respect the jersey at the Broncos!!. Like my man Denan Kemp!!

It's my guess that the Broncos in recent years have tried to spend under the cap rather than up to and ever so slightly over like a lot of clubs have done for years and years. I mean they seem to be good budgeters, frugal with their spending so with the recent departures and with this mindset they'd likely have more than enough cash to get BH back.

It might go down this way, BH first flirts with the Gold Coast then calls in at Red Hill when he knows how much the Coast have available. Brisbane figure how much petrol money BH needs to encourage him to live in Brisbane and commute. If Brisbane wants him then I'm guessing they'll get him. I'd like to see him happily settled and if he'd imitate Webcke in every way then I'd be one happy fan.

Coxy......you're just getting older, like this old guy said years ago.....you read first then decide if you're going to be angry not the other way round...this not written patronisingly...for a change lol Sometimes it's difficult to convey in words intent, even for one so prodigiously gifted as myself ( MUNDINEISM )

Just reading that there may be a player swap involved but i dont know who the Broncos would be willing to swap for Hannant Setu maybe ???

On the Bulldogs forum they are saying.

Setu, Sims & Te'o

Get OUT! Bulldogs can go shove the deal up their ass.

Bulldogs fans are clowns, for starters the are bulldogs fans and no doubt all ready to start a riot!!

I don't want to see SBW in my team. He can go to another team for a crapload of money, get injured, play a couple of games and switch codes.

Homesick Hannant believes he can call the tune on pay packet March 20, 2010

AFTER being squeezed out of two clubs because of the salary cap, Ben Hannant says he is finally in a position to return home to one of south-east Queensland's two NRL sides on the income he deserves. The Canterbury prop, who has asked the Bulldogs to consider an early release from his contract so he can return to the Gold Coast and play for either the Titans or Broncos, was previously let go by Sydney Roosters and Brisbane because they could not fit him under their cap.

''Now I've cemented myself as a first-grade footy player, clubs want you at the top of their cap,'' Hannant told the Herald. ''They see you as a marquee player. I don't have to worry about, 'Oh, we can't keep you because of the salary cap'. You're one of the five or six people they build a team around. That's where I think I am at the moment.''

Hannant, whose contract at the Bulldogs is due to expire at the end of 2011, would ideally like to play for the Titans. Their Runaway Bay training base is not far from his farm at Tallebudgera, on which he and his parents both have houses. The Titans, along with the Broncos, have expressed interest in signing Hannant should he be released, but never before has the Gold Coast club been in a position to pay Hannant his value.

''The big thing when they first came in was signing their marquee players,'' Hannant said of the Titans.

''It's always been whenever I've come off contract they've had no money in their cap. I've got a family to support. I've only got 10 years in the game - as it is I'd say we are underpaid, footy players, for what we put our bodies through. You've got to make the most of it.''

The 25-year-old, who has three children with wife Emma, is a strong advocate of putting family first despite his love for the game. To that end he believes players should be paid more given what they physically endure.

''Even though it makes the competition a lot more even, which is good, we haven't had a pay rise since Super League. We've gone backwards and the game is growing. You look at the injuries from round one. They're injuries people are going to have for the rest of their lives.''

Hannant says his primary motivation when deciding his future will not be cash. ''It's got everything to do with what suits the family,'' he said.

WOW Hannant really is a fuckhhead, to say things like that proves to me is an A grade Wanker. Please don't even consider Hannant, Cullent, let Gold Coast be the only club who has to offer him cash so they don't have to offer him as much. What a dick.

+1, although I want someone in a bidding war for him so Tits pay overs for him.

It's the attitude I hate, "poor us, we're underpaid"...bah! Sure, they can get injured and finish their career, but military people put themkmselves in more danger and don't get paid as well. Surf life savers and emergency services, they risk their lives.

Hannant plays a game. Get over yourself.

Really? I don't disagree with the guy to be honest.

Employers will never pay you more than you think you're worth, so why not talk yourself up a bit? Everyone does it. Who is 100% honest when in a job interview? He's trying to ensure he doesn't get dud offers due to his very public expression of a desire to come home.

I'm all for the elite in any field of work being paid handsomely. If the League ever decides to shake its "working class" image it will catch up to other sports/industries out there.

This guy has left for more money before. So what? Loyalty can only go so far before you feel cheated. Anyone criticising Hannant hasn't compared his situation to their own.

Coxy, I bet you get paid more than most military/surf lifesavers/emergency service staff. Does that mean that you wouldn't take more money if it was on offer? I doubt you're that noble (and I say this as a son of a military father and a nurse mother).

I love how jealous and hypocritical people can get. Let the guy earn as much cash as he can. He's not out there spending it on booze and hookers. He has a young family to look after as best he can. Who are you lot to deny him of that?
