'Homesick' Ben Hannant may quit Bulldogs

Hey Rocky....I note that the absence of maturity can influence your valuation of a contributors offering. This is something I'm well acquainted with on this forum. Childlike observations from totally inexperienced people. Eighteen is not too young to draw an intelligent conclusion but it seldom happens due to the complete lack of life experience. This is the main reason we do not have 20 y/old PrimeMinisters etc. Basically their opinions are almost worthless, usually highly reactive and unstudied. They just do not think or consider before opening their mouths. Anyone who has raised a teenager KNOWS this, we forgive them because the ability to think clearly when very young is almost completely absent. Responses are seldom considered and a casual glance at the road toll will show this most tragically.

That said and in light of myself having been 18 once, the opinions of the very young and inexperienced cannot be disregarded totally. They can have a fresh view but when we older and wiser people hear them we can usually discern that which is knee-jerk(99%) and that which has been thought through.

Broncospawn has no clue. Broncospawn has no inside knowledge and is at best guessing, at worst ,being outright defamatory . Most definitely a part of the 99% !!!

I think it's more that young people struggle with empathy, can't put themselves in someone else's shoes, and don't have that consequences thing in their mind yet...they don't think through from decision a all the way through to various possible conclusions.

I think that's the only explanation why spwn is SO vicious in his anger at Hannant.

I'm not impressed with some of the shit coming from Hannant's mouth either, but spwn has taken it waaaaaay out of proportion.

LOL Broncosperm!!! thats so random but funny

Frankly, I'm not impressed with B Hannant --> I would not be too happy if I was Bulldogs management.

To not be aware of the diffs between GC and Sydney life beforehand (to this extent) seems quizzical. Surely He didn't think "Im getting some good money, lets just go and see how we go" --> If he did, then it seems poorly planned out. Of course in life things change but I would have certainly kept it quiet and had a whisper to Greenburg --> Maybe he did and it leaked.

In any event, let us all see what develops before we make judgments about Hannant. According to the courier mail this morning Searle has said that the Titans will not enter into any player swap arrangement because they are dealing with people's lives and he is not into meat trading (good on him for taking this approach). That is likely to mean that if the Broncos maintain their current position, Hannant may not have an option at either the Bulldogs or the Broncos. If he then does move back anyway and either forgoes football for 12 months, plays Q-Cup or plays on a greatly reduced contract because of concerns about his family then broncospwn will be proved to be wrong. From what I have seen of him posting on here, he will probably acknowledge that he was wrong. If in that other scenario Hannant sees out the additional year of his contract with the Dogs, then the pwn may arguably be correct despite his opinion being based on `reasons lack substance, your reasoning's are PURE guesses and speculation'. I guess another name for pure guesses and speculation is intuition, which is sometimes accurate, sometimes not.

Did the Broncs back out because of the dosh? (assuming they are planning ahead for the young guns? - or BH was just too expensive)

It wasn't really made all that clear, but the inference from Bruno seemed to be along the lines of, he has been here twice and left twice so meeehh we'll pass and concentrate on our young forwards.

I don't think the Broncos have completely ruled it out. The article says "the Broncos will not BID for his signature". To me I interpret that is they won't get into a bidding war, but if they are the only ones in the picture and he accepts their first offer they will take him back.

The chances of Gold Coast Titans signing homesick Canterbury-Bankstown prop Ben Hannant have firmed dramatically with Brisbane Broncos officially dropping out of the race.

Broncos officials, including chief executive Bruno Cullen and coach Ivan Henjak, met to discuss signing Hannant, who is looking for an early release from his contract at the Bulldogs which expires at the end of 2011.

Despite the fact Hannant had played at the club before, Cullen informed his manager George Mimis the Broncos were no longer interested.

"Ben's a fine player, he's been here before, but at this point in time we can probably do without all the distraction and hype surrounding his possible move," Cullen said.

Looks like he'll be staying at the dogs then - more's the pity IMO

Who knows flutter, if he is genuinely concerned about the family, he might be prepared to come back for less money, if only for one year. The contract might be able to be back ended?? But if the Dogs insist on some form of player swap does not look like it is happening.

Well as both the Titans and Broncos have "apparently" said not interested it doesn't really matter what he will accept. FTR I don't believe it is completely off the table from either club - despite what the media reports.

+1

I think if Ben was to come to Bruno saying he really wants to play for the Broncos and would accept whatever he's offered (within reason) then they would consider it.

But if he's going to march in spouting the "I'm a marquee player" crap then he's got no chance.

The Titans will not sacrifice a player(s) for Hannant. They won't.

They also will not be able to afford his price tage until 2012.

Off the table for us.. as far as I am concerned.

I don't believe for one moment that either club have gone cold on BH. They both are saying publicly that they are not overly interested in BH but certainly have not dismissed it out of hand. I reckon the Broncs are still slim favourites to re-sign BH. I'm certain the Broncs have the cash and a little horse-trading may yet still take place.

I personally don't really care if Hannant is just after money or that he's isn't entirely loyal. I'd say the majority of the NRL players are the exact same. Hannant is one of the best props in the world at the moment, and considering that props are just about the next most important position on the field after the halves/hooker/fullback, I reckon spending good money on him would be totally worth it.

It's a business, emotions don't come into it. If he wants back Broncos would be idiots to not very seriously consider him. Our weakness is up front and he's perhaps the best prop in the game or close to it. He's also a very good person off field who wouldn't give negative media to the club from doing stupid things.

If Bruno and Ivan, don't do everything they can in an attempt to put Hannant back in a Broncos Jersey then I lose all hope for the once mighty Brisbane Broncos. As has been said he is not only one of the games premium bookends...he is also a good guy that causes no off field fuss. The perfect example of the sort of player that should be wearing the broncos colours.

I will not hold my breathe though, I'm sure Bruno has another couple of second rowers in mind to spend our unused salary cap dollars.
